    Graham Coxon is simply one of the finest musicians of his generation.
    The music of Blur helped to define British music in the 90s, with classic albums such as Parklife, Blur and 13 being the high water marks of guitar-led popular music.
    Graham's use of the guitar as sonic architecture knew no bounds - his experimentation with effects and textures was only matched by his incredible ability to create memorable riffs, melodies and solos within Blur's eclectic and unique songs.
    Graham breaks down some of his most iconic riffs - Parklife, Song 2, Bugman, No Distance Left To Run and There's No Other Way are all played and their back stories revealed.
    Graham talks about his acoustic playing, Blur's early days and gives very personal comments about his writing partner and lifelong friend, Damon Albarn.
    I am super proud to have Graham playing my guitars and I had a exceptionally enjoyable day recording the audio and video for this promo.
    For all fans of Graham and Blur - I am one of you. Being able to sit with Graham and listen to him playing the guitar one-to-one was a humbling experience and one that I will never forget.

    He is so talented! The riffs on the early albums were so overlooked, like Chemical World's Riff is so amazing! He has such a unique way of expressing the guitar, unlike any other! My favorite Guitarist by a mile!

    • @andyfovargue365
      @andyfovargue365 7 років тому +8

      Chemical World? I love a tune with a busy riff like that. This is a great video, if it was 3hrs long it'd still be too short. Watching Bugman's glorious noise segway into the melancholy of "No Distance" is a real treat. Also, I've been trying to nail that There's No Other Way riff for 25 years or so, and watching this I realise I'm still a mile off.

    He makes you think outside the box as a player, which is just hugely liberating. What I've learned from the Graham the most, is that I cannot play like him. You have to find your own way; your own little tricks and trills, and your own little weird chords and riffs that you throw in the mix. Create your own pallet of sounds.

    Graham Coxon, definitely one talented gifted musician. Self taught, just like Hendrix and Clapton. Reminds me much of a younger Eric, and like Hendrix, very interested in the sound he can achieve. The music.....just listen to his riffs in the Blur songs.......superb! So open, and prepared to show his genius. What a lovely fellow. Wonderful.

    This is a great interview. But I would HIGHLY recommend the one he did with That Pedal Show as well .. he goes quite a bit further in depth into some of the chord shapes, specific tones, pedals, guitars and amps etc he used for certain songs. AND the sound is loads better (!) ... some of the tones sound exactly like the albums. its amazing.

    No ego at all, very humble, but highly talented and willing to share! An absolute joy to watch the interview. Someone said, 'Like George Harrison with a handful of Hendrix thrown in!' I agree. On all the interviews I have ever seen Graham Coxon never disappoints. With Graham it is not so much about the guitar. That is just a sonic paintbrush, a tool if you will. You have to know how to use the tool BUT what is more important is the sound. That is what Hendrix was all about too....the sound.....the sound that reaches inside and touches the soul. Graham is off down the same path, and he will push it well past where Hendrix left off. Unselfish, inspirational, and a credit to music. For all the wonderful music so far thank you Graham. I feel sure that the future holds many more wonderful musical creations from this musician.

Bravo to you sir. A superb instrument. I would not take long to learn on that guitar because it is definitely a 'cannot put it down' instrument. I would never be off of it! It would have to travel with me to Thailand. That's where I live now. And guess what.....there is a music treaching service down in the town. Even better! Don't know about prices, but I suppose a top class instrument like this is not so cheap. Maybe you will surprise me if I come to your web site and ask.

    Graham playing Cross Roads? wow

    So is Graham playing 'No distance left to run' in open G, drop D or standard tuning a whole step down?

    • @grayguitars7370
      @grayguitars7370  5 років тому

      Adrian Tyler drop d I think Adrian. Whenever Graham plays an acoustic guitar he always drops the low E down to D.

    He just mentioned Slint, Sonic Youth, and Unwound. That fact alone should make it clear why Blur achieve something vastly more compelling than fucking Oasis.
    Slint fans: can you detect the Don, Aman vibe going on with the chords in Bugman? Makes me enjoy that song even more.

    Just like graham loves the RAT my go to is the Big Muff. Best advice ever - get to know your gear. You dont need 100 pedals. At the end theyre all the same in a way

    The Sheriff takes pedals better than I was led to believe... The guitar sounds so clear and crisp even when distorted

    He`s not a virtuoso...he`s not a "guitar hero" but this man (like Edge...Andy Summers...Morello...J. Greenwood)....changes the way a guitar can sound. Saw him a few years ago here in my country...Argentina and blew my mind

      Gabriel Nobre de Almeida Hi! Graham uses thin Hurco picks, back to front, wide end hits the strings!

    Graham was my hero from age 11-17, at which point it became Kurt Cobain. Weirdest part is i was born in 95

      Was that the point you realised you could never reach his guitar skills haha. Kurt's were alot more attainable.

    Graham might have absolutely no personality and be as boring an individual as watching paint dry BUT he is a totally brilliant guitarist he comes alive on guitar Brilliant
