Season Eight also added green patches to various islands in the Wilds. Several spaces can be found, most notably on Crooked Masts, where the vegetation is lush and green, and a blue haze affects the sky. Apparently in lore, the Wilds were once lush jungles, even more flora-dominated than the Ancient Isles, but a meteor shower in the region caused the islands to become barren and grim. It would seem they may be healing.
Some people believe that it's the result of the Dark Breathern using the staff to teleport to those locations or/and find the memories of Briggys which could cause the time to turn back on those patches. Hope we learn more in the next adventure.
@@LonelyPandora Whenever that’s supposed to release
I noticed they removed the one at Old Faithful Isle and maybe the other ones. Any idea why?
as a newer player, ive only gotten to scrape the surface of the past of this game. so many changes have taken place, and so many more are to come. i cant wait to see where this goes, and to live in the age of legends
I'm new too man, mainly doing the Tall Tales. Add me if you're up for occasional company on upon the sea: BearOdyssey
I started playing last year and boy was that an exciting time. Enjoy it while the new lasts

Your getting on a wild ride
Im glad videos like this exist. It's getting harder to remember some of the smaller details, so it's always nice to see someone cover the game's update history
Glad to hear it!
It’s crazy how many changes to the map 2022 had, shows that adventures are working at getting the story rolling.
Great video! This would require SO much digging and research, but it would be cool to have a video from you that talks about all the immortalizations-the stories behind them, and roundabout when they were added. The biggest one is Glitterbeard, which I understand why you didn’t cover in this video considering Rare’s feelings around it.
There are also so many little quality of life changes that have happened over the years, like the ladders and lifts added to the big islands. I also love when Rare added in-universe explanations for them, like when they removed an annoying sand bar at Reaper’s and left shovels below the water where it once was.
I can see about that
What's that about glitterbeard??
@@sanfordrussell8549 real guy that died
Not sure if it's my favorite, but the sovereigns have been such a nice addition and save so much time
Storywise it could be the worst thing possible but for selling its great yeah!
@@kurokiniro Okay and?
I’m eager to see how New Golden Sands is going to change. I would like to see a fort, similar to the sea forts at the islands, making it like a garrison of some sort. Almost turning into a version of Port Royal
Honestly would love another manually triggered world event like FOTD
Did you get what you wanted ?
I'm still gutted that Reapers lost Golden Sands and that it wasn't a ghost garrison. I guess that shows how close of a decision it was. I'm hoping for more Ancient catacombs to be discovered, a completion of Golden Sands and hopefully a map expansion (unlikely tho)
The biggest map change is all the dents in Krakens Fall from that time I tried and failed to get up to the dead tree when we did Rogue’s Legacy together 😂
Pure pain
favorite changes: sea forts, new golden sands, sea dog's tavren and the changes for the trapmaker tall tale
least favorite: the swamp in front of the reapers hideout, skeleton fleet in the middle of the map, ashen reaches and merrick (my favorite NPC) behind a door that requires to be a ghost for it
Not to mention that old boot fort was replaced
Well we need to start with the first alpha where all the pirates were beans.
Since then they added:
Everything.
Sea of Thieves has been going through some crazy changes. I'm honestly waiting for when something happens like the Ancients get pissed off at us pirates and punish us by reforming the Sea of Thieves with new islands and keeping some fan favorite islands. I would find that cool
terrible idea, no islands should be completely removed and never to be explored by new players
@@infinitypeaches3329 if that was the case, then there should be no cosmetic removed and never be earned by new players.
@@capnflamesword cosmetics are fine, but islands? fuck no

I've only been playing the game for a couple of weeks now. This explanation was very helpful in understanding the world of SoT. Thank you!
It's amazing how much has changed when you go through it like that. I'd forgotten some of the changes from way back but definitely remember all of them having seen this! Great video as always ☺️
Thank you very much!!!
how about, and hear me out here. no more sand. no more dirt or grass. mud. soaking wet, fertile mud!
Why
Similar idea, add quick sand
I don't like sand
It's corse and rough and it gets everywhere
@@darbyjordan2003coresure*
Me and a friend both left for a while though we just got back into the game, so cool to see all that’s happened
Great video, I hadnt played much at all during 2022 but still love the game so this was a perfect recap of the main story / lore as well as map changes. Hope you maybe do an update vid for the end of 2023 after this year?
I came back recently on the game and after traveling a bit I was questioning myself about something : has it always have been that much rock in the middle of the ocean before the « Pirate’s life » update or I didn’t paid attention before ? Like seriously, I can’t look at the horizon without seeing (or cashing into lol) those random rocks in the middle of nowhere.
Sailing isnt as easy as it once was. Cant even play a full song on my hurdy gurdy without crashing against some new rock
Yes its more rocky now thanks to portals, they added bunch of smaller rock formations to make them blend in with portals around. Its too much imo, whole portal idea is silly but eh.
I've been playing this game on and off for forever I can't believe I missed so much.
watching this made me feel so old knowing that i was here before the devils roar xd
I envy you
I had a very intense experience in lockdown with this game. Since then, I can’t play it but I’m happy that so many new players get to have that experience.
As someone who only started playing when Season 7 released, it’s interesting to to see the timeline of changes and updates with that perspective.
A small change that was missed in this video was the 3 stages of Liar's Backbone leading up to The Heart of Fire Tall Tale, by which sand was slowly removed from the small cave entrance
Also the sandbar at The Reapers Hideout being removed and replaced with shovels and buckets underwater
Since I took a break for a year or so this is really good to get a feel for the progression of things since I left for a bit. Something that has been really confusing me though is that some of the larger islands in the wilds have small pockets of land that seem to be of the ancient isles biome, where even the sky is a rich blue. I have no idea what this is so if anyone knows please tell me because I can't find talk of it anywhere
I played this game in test beta and it definitely changed over the years for the better. 👍
I may have missed it in the video but what about the vaults of the ancients?
Weather you count them as coming from the talltale or the voyage.
Really would have loved to see the Reaper result of Golden Sands. I feel like "good" Golden Sands is cool and all... but the Reaper stuff under Reaper's Hideout is epic!
I was watching this video while sailing the seas, and at 12:28 Right as i heard "but the rocks are still there" my friend called out to turn and we smashed right into those rocks. ironic
can't wait for the ice zone map expansion in april 2069
Wrong, 2888
@@AShinyRay nah, 2163.
as someone who tends to come back to these game once a year/once every 2 years, its always fun to see what they've added.
I've playing again recently after 2 years since peak lockdown and I must say, I feel like for me personally this game finally isn't really that extremely repetitive anymore.
I feel like it has enough to do now to keep going.
the plunder pass is fun and doesn't feel like a total grind, leveling reapers is so much more fun than any of the other factions and I finally became pirate legend which opened up so much more.
it was nice getting a blast from the past, but also nice being updated on the game since I stopped paying after the pirates life update. I just recently came back to the game and having fun figuring things out!
have not played SoT for a while since the pirates life was added. seeing these changes i am kind of wanting to come back
I just started this game and am so clueless lmao but it’s seems so interesting so far
I think that after the ten year plan, if it's still going, sea of thieves should get a major quality of life or graphics update. Just to keep it up to date with other games.
God, returning to this game after leaving it got almost 3 years is going to be mind blowing.
imagine having different seas, like in the beginning it shows us sailing to the sea of thieves, what if we had multiple seas?..
I was in the devils roar the other day for the first time since 2020 probably and man it’s so incomplete, loads of weird floating rocks and things on the islands
It’s been nearly 4 years for me. I’m starting to phase this game out. 😞 it’s been fun and frustrating. With 109 days of sailing, still no shrouded ghost.😭
I played a little after soundsmith made his videos but just recently my friend got me back into the game
Imagine a new frosty area on the map tho 😮
Damn i got Pirate Legend not long after the game came out in 2018, i stopped playing after the skeleton ships got added, i came back to play after all these years and theres so much new content i cant keep up 😂😂
I'll say this there's a huge section of the map that just has nothing in it at the bottom southwest corner. If you ever play the game and wonder where the fog is more than likely it's down in the southwest part of map.
Fog only spawns at the edges of the map, but apparently they are working on it, so it could appear in the middle, too.
I would love to be able to travel to islands like the reapers hideout and wellspring as they once were through the sea of the damned.
Wait. You mean people had been offloading loot without the Sovereign Tents all this time?!?!?! I've only been playing this game a few weeks. I've never known a Sea of Thieves without the Sovereigns.
There used to be no storage creates at one time as well, stocking the boat was a pain. Oh let's not forget bananas being the only food source..
I recently just got back in after a few years not playing and i feel so lost
I would love to see a new region added to the game
I hope they add a fast travel feature where you go under the water like Davy jones and you can’t do it near players
I would love if the map changed just a little bit more and a snowy area appeared, I think it would be cool
I hope when new golden sands is done it’s construction the other outpost are converted to be like golden sands and each can be different to go with the location an example is galleons grave having its tavern be built around the mountain rock and I golden sands will get something special all of them should and the galleons grace can have something like the galleon being slightly rebuilt and there would be something there
As of The Secret Wilds update, New Golden Sands has a sewer system and cellar under the tavern and has moved the reapers table to another sewer area near the castaway's camp. The fortification of NGS still remains incomplete.
Missed a small world change, platforms and traps on Thieves Haven. Not sure why they added traps though
I have a feeling the second port town will be the sea dog tavern only it will be reaper themed.
I love port merrick (i think it is called that). I quit sea of thieves in season 5 and when I spanwed on port merrick I was so confused
I thought I was a newer player lol, I remeber hungering deep and never doing merricks missions, good times, the game has definitly changed for the best tho
It’s weird to watch this having stopped playing since before the whole fire area was added, I kinda miss how sandbox-like the game used to be.
Loved the video but you forgot the demarco mystery ending unless you avoided it because spoilers.
Not played since first release.. i take it there is alot more things to do now and where the hell would i start? Think on release it was just open and wasnt really a direction to go. You kinda just found things occasionally. That still the case, or is there a story mode now?
Haven't played the game since September last year, had no clue so much had changed wtf
im upset i stopped playing and missed out on the facepaints from festival of the damned, and the sail / lantern, and from skeleton introduction the tattoo :(
Eeeeh lots of nostalgia
wasn't there like one mega inland that was split in 2? i remember read about that somewhere
Thieves Haven and Crook's Hollow were apparently one island at some point well before release.
You didn’t mention the greenery popping up in the wilds
Back in my day skeleton forts were the biggest thing in the sky now it’s red skull or Grey one with red eyes
Can any player open the reaper hideout social spot/curse spot and how do you do it?
It really hurts my heart that you said NPC Merric😭
So many changes 🤯
That was a mouthful! Take a breath
At 12:32 I contributed to saving golden sands
Everyone else ants the Seadog Arena back.
Top played game for me on steam is Sea Of Thieves, such a great game!
Such a beautiful game man im so glad ive given it a second chance
And now S13 is gonna make the return of flaneheart
I stopped playing for awhile after the adventures were announced and Im still not too happy with their execution tbh but I do love the changes they've made except how the hell did we as a community go with Flameheart over Pendragon?? Ima be salty about that for awhile lmao I just learned about that here!
been waiting on a snow/ Ice area of the map since they released the valcano/fire area. would love to see other animals added, crabs because they should be on beaches no chickens and pigs. seals, whales because why can't we hunt whales ?. dolphins, How about a military instead of always fighting skellys. Military galleons with human NPC's that come after you because being a pirate is supposed to be not a good thing but in this game being a pirate in allot of ways seems to be the norm. Not sure If im alone on these things but I would like to see a police/ military faction that is against piracy
I played in 2016 i ryl miss when u waited in a lobby
While I love having a ton of content, there is such a thing as too much, especially in a small space. I wanna see more islands that are just plain forested or sandy islands. No buildings, no NPCs, nothing but animals, maybe some skeletons, and some chests to dig up. Oh, and rocks. Can't forget those. Rock and stone.
Only real ones remember the wall of cannons at old boot fort
This video makes me feel old and I'm only 18😭😭
I hope that they turn more larger islands into something that can actually be explored.
Most islands are still just boring sand, grass and trees.
I'm currently working on a concept for rare. That includes more story, bigger map changes, and much more new things. It's some what inspired by the Spanish forts
And now we have a new update again XD
Great recap, I'm glad I lived through it all! 🏴☠👍🏼
Over time even with new players constantly loading the game up for the first time and many to come, the sovereign will have to be removed with tons of new players becoming captains and eventually only new players will ever use the trading companies other than captains getting quests
Edit:just a thought don't think your entitled to correct me or whatever
Did you mention glitterbeard?
What about the new nice areas appearing in the wilds
wow, it's almost a complete game.
And now make a Video with bugs added since release XD
18 hour video
the ice region will be released by the time that video would be finished
Am betting that they will add a snow 🧊 biome 😅 ! Like a big ice burg on the east side of the map which no player can sail in its waters ! Only walking 🚶♀️ or they could be ice islands 😅
Bot ahh comment
@@-RizzRepublic- poopoo
I remember playing Day one not finding it fun, as I was young and only like halo, and found it boring. Left then came back when The devil's roar got added and being spawned at the outpost being confused on where I was, Left because of family issues, came back when jack sparrow came into sea then continue playing since then and I surprise me how much this game changed
I miss the original golden sands…. It was my favorite
I was interested in getting into this game until I realized they are already well into their goth era
i played in pre realese actually in 2015
No one other than the Devs did. The first Alpha was in December 2016.
Liar's Backbone is in the wilds...not the devils roar
U missed out the reaper runs
Ice region in 2023
Still pissed about what the players did to my boy Pendragon.
I’ve been playing since pre-public beta and honestly this game is just not the same it once was. The game was boring without NPC’s like FO76.
Do you think they will ever end gen 8 support aka Xbox one support
Probably but in a few years time which is rather annoying for SoT but until Microsoft decides, we just have to wait. It has been 9 years but Xbox360 was supported for 11 years
@Jabo Yes that there are things that Rare can do but can't for reasons but there are no doubts things that Rare cannot do due to it may affect Xbox One players.
The gsme out out march 2018
Season four?
