    You all joke about this....I am a paper shredder repair tech. and have see this before by a client, I get a service call one day from a woman who said her shredder had stopped working. I get to her location, which is in her home, and the machine is rusting, and there is green material hanging out of the bottom of the unit. I proceed to ask her what this material, she says " cabbage and lettuces " so of coarse i ask "why were you shredding cabbage and lettuces?" Her response "i wanted to make coleslaw" ...... That's when I have to explain " It's a PAPER SHREDDER!!!! not a food processor.
    P.S. Fellows paper shredders advertises " The Worlds Toughest Paper Shredder"
    What a joke!!!! buy Kobra, Intimus, or M.B.M. Way better units that are
    manufactured to last.

      Hahaha, why does that not surprise me that somebody actually tried making a salad with their shredder :p
      The Fellows ones are junk, I am surprised it still works given all the crap I have fed through it so far!. I am tempted to buy a new one just so i have a spare set of sheers for the modded one.

      +Karl Buchan Lady wasn't very bright. Common sense is telling me to never put anything wet in my paper shredder because it is obvious that it will rust and become inoperable. I use my paper shredder for the purpose it was designed for and that is paper clips, staples, credits and CDs as well as papers. I had my paper shredder for many years and it is still going strong. I have a Staples paper shredder and I love it.

      When dealing with low security information most people, including the medical field (H.I.P.P.A.) can shred to a level 2 or 3 cross cut. Now , When dealing with level 4,5,and 6 you start to get into more classified shredding which is more easily damaged by foreign objects other than paper.

    might be able to put in a lot of nuts and bolds throught the sides to clean out the grooves should stop the shafts from flexing too
    interesting build , loking for sumting to shred plastic 2.5 liter milkbottles to reduse its volume , this thing might do the job of i squish the bottles flat before pushing them through

    • @RobbieRobski
      @RobbieRobski 9 років тому

      craig scothern I've had a fellowes 11 sheet crosscut shredder going on 8 years now, still running very strong with proper maintenance. I fill the bin weekly so it gets decent use at my office. The gears will strip/wear out if you feed past its capacity and try to force the shred instead of reversing and trying to clear the jam. Some of the newer ones have a jam free feature that wont let you over feed. We just got one and it is sweet and SOOOO much quieter than my current one.

    Yes, we need a bigger motor on that, maybe variac / VFD driven. Putting those leaves in there gave me an excellent idea: That shredder would knock up a wicked coleslaw in no time at all. :D LMAO!
    Shredder motor pop? Yes, Mr. Photon DID pop one of those, I remember the vid. The really funny thing about it was, as he was cranking it on the variac, the motor somehow kept on repeatedly "backfiring"...yes, it made loud bangs-n-pops before finally giving up & blowing its windings. :D

    Karl: Here is another joke regarding shredders: It is the custom to place the refuse, the shreds into a transparent plastic bag -- for the whole world to see that one is shredding confidential material and often times it is packed so cleanly without one's thinking of putting some undesirable substance in it as dung, excrement, stale-sauce, or grime -- but no: they leave this outside of their house/business in order to say, "Come on in, there is more confidential stuff where this came from" Soon, they will be looking inside your house!
    This is amazing.

    Just wondered whether you have tried to use corrugated which is basically three or more sheets of paper? I am not worried about safety, and yes I know its wrong!
    I want to modify a new fellows 450 or 460 machine to remove any thickness troubles I will not be ripping anything off the top I just want advice on what to alter to get the machine to shred corrugated and not the solid type card.

    I had a junk Fellows like that a few weeks back. I took the plastic spacers out and combined spur disks onto one of the hex rods. It resembled a medieval battle rod of some sort. I was a little afraid of what the kids might do with it so I chucked it in the lathe and turned the spurs off... made some washers. I'm a little sorry now after seeing your video!
