To me Notion is like a personal assistant of sorts. As a creative and someone who is always juggling multiple projects, interests and hobbies, I've always found it really hard to prioritize task (and not be overwhelmed with the full workload), to organize ideas for future projects (and actually do something with them), and to remember things that were suggested to me. With Notion I can create infinite databases, that are immensely customizable, and them chose exactly when, how, and how much I want to see (and the "how much" has been especially helpful for my mental health). To me it offers the same as other note taking apps (like Evernote but easier to organize and resurface) and project management apps (like Todoist, Asana and Trello but more customizable). The pros: - (as an arch/designer/creative) it's extremely customizable and therefore adapts easily to my taste. - it can do a lot in one place which is not only convenient but means I could start simple and evolve to more complicated setups. - the relation tool is pretty great and means I can have the same info shown is like five different ways and places for ease of flow and consumption. - also, infinite toggles! The cons: - the learning curve (as there are so many options it can be overwhelming at first). - some people will prefer ready to use apps over customizable (even though there are so many templates). - some people won't need all those options and just feel either overwhelmed or like they're underusing it. - the mobile app is quite slow. To start Tomas Frank and Ali Abdaal are great but don't forget to check Marie Poulin! She's the true master!
Thanks for the great review ans write up. The cons do not seem like cons at all, at least they can be overcome with patience, will and focus to learn and master it. Simply do, as questions (dear Google or youtube) and learn along the way, as everything else in life. Thanks again ans have a great one!
People assume it will make them perform better, and be more productive, but you have to put some work into building a solid framework that works for you. The major drawback of notion is that it's online only!
Wow, loved seeing the BTS of how you make these awesome videos. I use Notion for everything as well so I can totally relate. How you plan things out has always been a huge inspiration to me. Please keep going man 👊🏾
I still use Notion for shared notes and projects. But I somewhat stopped using it as a second brain. Your minimal setup is appealing and might be giving Notion a second chance.
Unfortunately, Notion lost a bunch of customer goodwill when they had several outages early in the year (they were averaging one per month). Personally, I refuse to pay for Notion until there's an offline mode.
Notion: helping UA-cam productivity/minimalism creators make a living since 2020... it's overhyped fluff... not as bad as Paperlike, but almost as cult-y.
I actually really like it and was going to make the video regardless of the sponsor. Let me know if you find anything better - I'm always open to innovations.
Hey daniel can u pls say how u made this particular frame 1:49 ..i know its a screen recording but it looks so clean and neat with all the shadows and stuff..u dont hav to explain the whole stuff just some pointers wud b enuf..i can google that and learn further
I just wish notion implement an offline mode. I don't know if they limited it only for x amount of pages and hide it on a paywall. I just want some of my page to be available offline.
Im a Notion convert. My only issue is that while you cannot export a page as a pdf you cant export into Word or Excel. You cant even copy paste from Excel into Notion.
daniel, i want to like Notion. and I get how their tables are databases which can link and is useful. but sometimes I just want to create a freaking simple table to present my data but its impossible to do that. whyyyy???
With all due respect Daniel, it's really hard to take your opinion at face value when you are stating "It became the only app that I use..." right after "...sponsored by Notion". At this point, it's kinda given that you are not going to mention a lot of the issues you faced or the intensity of those issues.
End to end encryption? Local file storage? Api? Notion development is slow and the software lacks so many features. Their mobile apps are only really suitable to casual note takers. It’s overhyped af by everyone in the productivity space on UA-cam. The more you use it, the sooner you’ll go back to using other apps. Like- how many of you need to collaborate with an actual team of more than 5 people? And with no end to end encryption, 2fa... how serious is the work you’re collaborating on?
Notion isn’t really a new thing. I use Google Docs much like this. Also Evernote works well for this kind of work. Some people would also use mind maps.
So I've been (payed/got crazy/overrun) ~using~ Notion about a time and... It's complicated. It's core is something I wouldn't like to continue even that I can easily have unlimited through student account. On an Apple Ecosystem (Notes(or Bear), Things(or Reminders)) combination is simple and not "acting" like mobile. Seriously, the app is not built on thinking any mobile app design but simply a web app style(saying this as a Mobile Developer).
You rely on internet access to use it? That just seems incredibly impractical. Also, since everything is online how is their security and privacy policy? This just seems a bit too good for a free service.
Very nice, but Daniel I was wondering if this could also help me replace my Google Calendar? I keep all my events over there as well as my to-do list. Would love to combine my notes and calendar into 1 platform with Notion if it is suitable for that, with re-occurring events, notifications etcetera. I will look into this myself, but I would love to read you opinion about it! Thanks, and also have a great weekend ^^
Rely on Microsoft Office as a platform to capture data from everywhere : Outlook for email and calendar, Todo for task management and OneNote for idea management. Everyone forgets OneNote but it is an incredibly powerful tool to keep tracks of anything such as text, links, hand notes, files and even vocal memo 🙂
I understand your skepticism, but just because it's sponsored, doesn't mean it's always dishonest. I guess you'll have to trust the content creator on this one. Besides from being occasionally slow and online only, I personally love Notion and appreciate the design. As a student (un-sponsored), I can say it helps me stay organized in my classes. :)
Boss: What did you spend the last 160 hours doing? Me: Learning to use a Productivity tool that I sort od get and definitely won't be able to teach to anyone else. Irony.
Well Daniel, an entire video as an Ad for Notion? little disappointed to be frank. You are not Alpha M. And ya Thomas Frank can really inject the notion into you.

Bruh every youtuber is using Salamanca in their videos, including me 🤣

I just started using Notion as well, and haven't dived as deep as I wanted to yet. This helps SO much! Thank you!
Cheers Cameron! I'm glad it helped!
I find Notion too complicated and not as fast to use as the notes app.
I like how simple the iOS notes app is
There's definitely still a place for it, for sure. You can't beat its speed.
Same. I don’t see it as a big reason to switch yet but maybe it’ll win me over soon
With new notion widgets, the speed is now on par with native notes apps (maybe even faster because of markdown shortcuts)
i prefer google keep to ios app on daily notes use
Couldn’t agree more!
Notion is great but it doesn't work offline which is the most important part of a note-taking app, in my opinion.
agreed
@@koushik1947 update, it is working offline now, or at least on iPhones.
Agreed or on Android?
@@WesleyDechavez it works offline on me, same thing for to do list
@@esnardojaredralph94 look at the date when I made this comment...
I use apple notes, this is also a very good app. I write scripts to my videos and I take some notes, that's great, very minimalist and productive.

The main issue I have with Notion is that on mobile it takes too long to load. Too long for quick notes.
Update it, it loads in like 2 seconds on my phone
@@tylerpixel 2 seconds is 2 seconds slower than keep and others
@@ackmandesu8538 So keep loads as soon as you let go of the screen? Shieet

Could be the simplest overview of Notion in the internet! Great one✨
Two consecutive posts mygosh thank you!
I still use Notion for shared notes and projects. But I somewhat stopped using it as a second brain. Your minimal setup is appealing and might be giving Notion a second chance.
I have watched a lot of videos about notion but your setup so is minimal and efficient. Loved the video.
Notion killing it with the UA-cam marketing
Brilliant video Daniel. Really useful. Thank you for explaining Notion. Delighted to get this. G
Am I the only one who haven’t heard of this app until Daniel’s video?😂😂
Great video providing a good understanding of what nation is and how it can be used as a 1 stop, customizable shop.
Thank you kindly!
I've been using Notion for years. Didn't know it was a trend. It's as useful as a notebook and pen.
This video is a blessing
Perfectly timed!! I was looking up this subject and notion seems to be everywhere. For my use case, todoist should work well.
Nice video! I'm transitioning from the notes app to notion, but this video is making me want to use notion more 😅 more speed to ya! Keep it up man
The example where Apple is sponsoring 'Was Switching to PC a Mistake?' gave me a good little chuckle.
Unfortunately, Notion lost a bunch of customer goodwill when they had several outages early in the year (they were averaging one per month). Personally, I refuse to pay for Notion until there's an offline mode.
This was such a good brand partnership. I already use notion and I love it. I loved seeing how you use it!

because it is what everyone needs and want
loved the coffee drinking process at 7:00
Best notion video I’ve seen on YT.
it just works perfectly for me, but for now it's quite a challenge to build your own perfect workspace
I love this app! Notion made me organize my life in a much simpler way!
I really love all your work! Will we be seeing a video on a "minimalist youtube setup"? Keep up the good work!
Like the video - what about a video of all you phone, computer and gadgets in general (like air purifier or dehumiifier.....)? Thank you
You did a great job on this. I signed up for it. Thank you.
Matthew Encina is the person that made me try out notion.
I know what i need now. Thank you for this! 🙌🏻

Hey Simon! It's mainly just the "drop shadow" tool in Premiere Pro and coloured overlays set to "multiply". Hope this helps!
I just wish notion implement an offline mode.
I don't know if they limited it only for x amount of pages and hide it on a paywall.
I just want some of my page to be available offline.
Good one!
I was leaning towards ClickUp as a productivity project management suite. What's the main advantage of Notion over ClickUp?
Simple, Succinct and humbly well said sir!
I would buy a notebook diary and start to write to-dos instead of seeing digital screen in morning
I still don’t get it. what does it do better than apple notes….
Im a Notion convert. My only issue is that while you cannot export a page as a pdf you cant export into Word or Excel. You cant even copy paste from Excel into Notion.
This tool is my bread and butter! Love your videos and love the tool ❤
everyone is saying notion is a game changer but do u know whats a good place to learn notion? whats the best tutorials out there?
Daniel, can you walk through how you set up your iPhone? :)
Daniel, is it your voice on the video "Contradictory Urbanism in Barkingside" on the Architecture Foundation UA-cam channel by the way?
Great things are done by a series of small things brought together. ✍️
I really want to try this app it looks amazing!!
it's really helpful to get organized!

Your phone only has one app 😭
2:01 Didn't expect to see a list of top regrets of the dying under your work categories but it be like that
I find it's so easy to get obsessed with my work - so it helps keep things in perspective!
Is notion safe for saving Bank account details and financial details coz if someone can hack it and read it then I'm going to die worthless
Notion is the next level but get in to it can be really hard

Are you still using it until now
I believe that Notion's success is largely due to a clever marketing campaign that effectively generated buzz and made it go viral.
I love using Notion too. :-) thanks for sharing
With linked databases it can boost your productivity so muchhh
I use the old classic method (aka google drive with folders) lol

"Why is every influencer using notion ? "
"This post is sponsored by notion."
Hmmm. 🤔
The single fact that you can't search for keywords/tags, as in EverNote, was enough reason to stop for me :(
