- Hoosier Nation celebrates a buzzer-beater win over #1 Kentucky!
Background: Indiana University has a long and storied basketball history. In spring of 2008, former coach Kelvin Sampson was forced to resign amid serious NCAA allegations. Coach Tom Crean, who left Marquette for IU "because it's Indiana, it's Indiana" faced a monumental rebuilding task: the Hoosiers had lost 11 players from the previous year (3 transferred, 3 dismissed, 3 graduated, 2 NBA draft) and were penalized by the NCAA. Undersized and undermanned, the Hoosiers fought for three season, playing with passion and energy, but ultimately succumbing to better talent. Their record over those three seasons: 28-66, 8-46 in the Big Ten Conference. In fall of 2011, with a balanced and more-experienced roster, Hoosier Nation felt poised for a return to relevancy, perhaps even a post-season run. A soft schedule allowed IU to start the season 8-0, and though it felt different from the previous seasons under Coach Crean, few expected Indiana to be able to compete for 40 minutes with rival Kentucky, the top team in the country and one that features several future NBA stars. For over 39 minutes the teams traded blows, including 5 lead changes in the last two minutes. Then, catharsis for Hoosier Nation...

Kentucky was so upset over this loss that they would not negotiate to continue the annual rivalry game, unless it could be played on a neutral court. I was at the game, and still have the ticket, which Tom Crean autographed for me. The only more exciting game i can recall attending was the game when we defeated Duke at Lexington to go on to the championship game against Maryland in Atlanta. The single most exciting game I have ever attended.
Calipari wasn't upset over the loss, he was upset that your idiot fans nearly trampled a UK player.
@@mikemartin5749 fuck that Uk player
I was in the Big Red Basketball Band at the Duke game at Rupp. Simply amazing... UK fans from in town were sitting behind us, cheering us on because they hoped to see the Dukies lose 🤣
@@marcomandolini86 well your going to hell
I jumped up and down and dove on my adult son and kissed him on the cheek. He got mad and threw me off but it was worth it. Go IU!!!!
Wow this just made me legit tear up. Such a great night, such a great win. #Hoosiers
die hard UConn fan and even i'll admit this video is something else.. games and reactions like this are what make college basketball special
Not really a Basketball fan at all, and not an Indiana fan, but I am a competitive sports person and I know what the desire to WIN is as a fan and competitor and watching the emotions come out from the 1 lonely guy in his living room to the sports bars to the actual arena and you can't help but get emotional watching this. INCREDIBLE moment here. Goosebumps!
Dude, I have to say that ever since I first saw this video in mid December, I have watched it at least 30 times. Being a lifelong Hoosier fan and native, I grew up shooting hoops on a backboard bolted to our barn and loved watching the IU vs. UK game every year with my dad. Setting the background music to the score from "Hoosiers" was genius and really helped underscore all the feelings of pride we have for our Indiana Hoosiers! Well done
This was the greatest basketball game I have ever personally watched
Second for me...the IU Syracuse game with the buzzer beater is #1 in my book.
I liked the finals this year, where kentucky won it all.
@@brianbays867 salty Kentucky fan I see lol
@@cadenpowers8733 if the only loss my team takes is a hail mary buzzer beater so miraculous that its replayed years later im okay with that. Only loss they had that year, won the sec and ncaa titles that year and our star just won his first NBA title too. I'm happy 😃
still the greatest
This is my favorite ending to a basketball game ever. I'm not even a fan of either team, but I'll never forget watching the ending of this with my mom and dad, I don't even know why we turned it on but I'm so glad we did. Unbelievable, unbelievable, can't believe it
"Some guy in his living room" LMAO XD
I'm a KY fan but I can respect moments like this, nobody loves a game that's 40 to 94 points, they enjoy a close good game and this one especially. you need rivals in sports, it makes it good
Well put man
That's respect. Sad that some UK fans still get mad about this. Respect for other teams/players is a true fan. UK always has a great team, they just come up short on this game. But look where they went later that season :)
The first KY fan I've seen that actually is a passionate fan. I'm sorry that there are some bad apples in KY's fan base that makes passionate fans like you look bad.
80%? They say 80% of all statistics are made up.
You reply on an almost 2 year old comment lmao get a move on.
whenever I am having a bad day I watch this video and It is automatically "not so bad"
Whoever edited this did a WONDERFUL job.
I love this video it's just great a little background I am a 41 year old Englishman I don't watch basketball ever... but i still love the raw emotion that sports conjuour up in so many people just fantastic thanks for sharing
Should have video taped my reaction too... All I remember is jumping up and down screaming "He made it!" over and over again. Doing my best job not to knock over the Xmas tree... then my wife comes running downstairs screaming (she couldn't watch the final play). Before I knew it, my Springer Spaniel was humping my leg in joy, my Irish Setter named Kirkwood started barking (pretty sure he was saying "Suck it Kentucky") and my 1/2 year old was scared that daddy lost his mind. Best. Day. Ever.
I'm a Kentucky fan and this crowd reaction still gives me goosebumps. Damn.
+Brian Bays Greatest rivalry in NCAA
Im a indiana fan And this Gave me goosebumps to When I watched it in my bedroom So AHAHAHAHAHA HOW DOES IT FEEL TO BE BEAT BY A UNRANKED TEAM
Brian Bays Don’t Mess With Indy
I was there and the only other thing that can even compare is being at Game 7 of the 2016 World Series.
Great video with hoosier music and don fischer making the call....been a hoosier fan since 1965 and this is one of their greatest games! thanks for the video
Italian fan enjoys with you.... This is Indiana. Support since 1987
I'm crying now as I watch this... And I am so proud to be an alumni of this great educational and athletic institution... I played baseball for the hoosiers from 1986 to 1990 when I graduated with honors, and I was in the villas when Keith hit the shot that last time we won it all... I was at Assembly hall for all of the games that magical year, and now we have a chance to do ot all again... This is the best team I have seen in my 30+ years as a fan and alumni... May we go far and winit all
This should be the top result for any search of IU UK. By far the best video of its kind. Congrats to the editor.
Well, I don't really know anything about university basketball league, but watching this makes me feel something GREAT. Congrats from Spain!
Brought tears to my eyes. Thank you.
This is an awesome video. Very well edited. You did a great job putting it together. Lots of fun. Thank you.
as a michigan fan that was a great game, remembering watching it. love the video with the theme of the song from Hoosiers in the background.
I will never forget being at this game, what a moment. Still get chills watching it.
kentucky players deserved a pay cut after this game
That made me laugh
Nice win for the hoosiers. Everybody wants to beat Ky. Nothing like being a cat fan. But it is cool to see other fans act as crazy as we do with our basketball !!! Nice touch with the Hoosiers music.
this happened on my 10th birthday and i remember it so vividly and now i’m a junior at IU! this is still legendary!
This never gets old! Everytime I watch it I end up with tears! Go Hoosiers!
Seriously. Of all the videos I've watched (at least 100) this video is the only one I can watch 5+ times and still get chills every time. What an amazing moment in history. The whole situation involving the game - NCAA sanctions, the last three years of struggles, and UK bringing in a super talented team that most people expected to dominate the game - made it that much more incredible and special. I'm so glad I was able to be there.
Thanks so much for this video, it's fantastically well-done.
Very well done. Absolutely love that you used the theme from the move "Hoosiers" as the background music.
Always think of my dad when seeing vids of this game. He had just been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer a week before this game yet I still think it was one of the greatest moments of his life. Just glad I went over to his house that night to watch it with him. I lost him but will never lose this great memory.
How soon we forget.... that was a great day. Thanks, Christian.
I LOVE U HOOSIERS!!
I'm a Card fan and this gave me goosebumps. Great editing on the vid. Enjoyed every second.
My fave video - sums it all up - and includes all the excitement in some of the best places! I would've loved to still be a student during this game - those were the best days of my life!
I had to watch this again - putting the video to the Hoosiers music just made me weep (with joy, of course!)
The fact that I was there for the end of the Knight era (as we all know, coach's time didn't end well), I can say with pride that our Hoosiers are back. Thank you to the person who posted this compilation, as someone said earlier, it never gets old. I cannot wait for Friday.
Nicely done!! Again, the celebration was an (like it or not) homage to what Coach Knight started all those years ago. Like many others have shared, this video gives me goose bumps not so much for IU BB but for the pure joy that all these people shared at the same moment in their lives.
Great job on the video, bro. I was at working watching this game and I nearly ran through the whole building screaming my head off when that shot went in. Certainly, one of the best nights I will ever remember.
I cried when it was all over, I lost my best friend last year who was a huge IU fan as well. It meant so much to me. He always said IU's basketball program would be back this year and we would win a national title next year, if not this year too. Even if we don't, this game was a great moment in my life and I will never forget it. RIP Clint McCarter
I was watching this at a party, we werent Hoosier fans but we all went so crazy this one will be going down in the books lol.
That was the first game I had gone to in 25 years, and I still get chills watching it.
one basket........... really great video, watched it a couple of times and I don't even know these teams, you sure captured a feeling on tape
one of the days that i will never forget.. In my candystriped pants and all watching that game! GO CRIMSON AND CREAM
Excellent video. I don't like or hate either team, but this was one for the ages. Congrats to Indiana on such an emotional win!
Great shot. The music from Hoosiers is just an awesome addition
You'll never find a stronger allegiance to there team than Indiana University. God bless the Hoosiers. Proud to be one myself!!!
As a UK fan I give IU props for that game. That wanted the game and deserved to win. We all under estimated Indiana and believe it or not I am glad IU is back cause college hoops as a whole is better when a storied program such as IU is good. Our only loss this year. Not bad
Nah Bro I tear up every time too. Best night of College.
Perfect using the Hoosiers movie soundtrack!! Well done!
honestly, i get teary eyed every freakin time i watch this lol... not even kidding, i could watch this a million trillion quadrillion times, and it still wouldn't get old :)
Happy anniversary everyone!!! Go Hoosiers!!!
My son and I were jumping with joy in our living room!!
Chills...every single time I watch this!!!
I was at the game that night wish we could still do this...
gives me goosebumps everytime i watch this
This is an absolutely beautifully made video.
I'm a huge wildcat fan and I loved this moment for them!
I have no connection to either school but this was a great moment in American sports history
I wanna cry this is so beautiful after so many frustrating seasons.
i was just gonna watch a few classic ncaa clips before going to bed...now i feel a strong urge to watch the movie 'Hoosiers'...thanks watford...look what you made me do...
I was at home I lost my mind when That shot went in my blue heeler nipped me on the leg he didn’t know what to do he thought I lost my mind which I did. One of my favorite moments in Hoosier history
I will never forget the ESPN camera shot of a stunned coach Tom Crean after the winning basketball was scored and ESPN putting up the winning points on the Kentucky side of the scoreboard line. For seven seconds, it looked like UK won 75-70.
I'm a die hard kentucky fan. I wish we could start the rivalry again with Indiana. It was such a long term rivalry for both teams. It's historical almost. Louisville just canceled due to covid so we have a open game at rupp. If Indiana came to rupp college basketball would explode.
I absolutely love love love this!
Who ever went to that game has to be really lucky to feel the excitement in the real assembly hall!
I was the "other" fan. Much respect for making this, Go Big Red!!
yall had a good season dude haha im a die hard kentucky fan but yall had a good run
I am a huge UK fan, have been since i was a little boy, but i must say i was proud of IU when they pulled off that upset, i was happy for them, and they deserved it, that was one of the most memorable ball games i can remember and i watched the laetner shot when i was 6 lol.
Has it really been 7 years? Feels like yesterday
2:03 That was actually pretty damn close to Shooter's reaction from the actual movie.
Because even the scoreboard was in such shock and awe at the awesomeness taking place.
I'm a Kentucky fan and I was happy for Crean & the Hoosiers.. it was a heck of a game with an unforgettable ending. I think I was the only one in the crowd at my house who wasn't upset after the game, lol.
Gave. Me. Chills... Well Done sir
pure genius, i was watching this with my grandpa in his tv room, (were huge ND fans) but were pulling for IU, cuz I hate Kentucky, (Watford for the win??, YESSS, YESSSS). I jumped up and down and hugged him like no tomorrow, knowing that IU was back, thanks for the video and another great memory,...sincerely, a Hoosier at heart from South Bend!
Would like to see someone gather up more videos from around the world and stitch them all together. there are IU groups all over the country and overseas. Massive fan base
Hell I'm a Wisconsin fan and I tear up watching this.
Pretty cool. I am glad you guys are back...watching March Madness with my dad is my favorite past-times. Also, going to games at Allen Field House with him. Basketball has missed you. While I don't like Kentucky very much...out of all the Blue Bloods (besides Kansas :) ...You guys seem the most wholesome and family oriented bunch.
Final Four next year? Hell, this year?
we may not have won the national title this year, but that shot, that one moment has changed Indiana for forever.... we're back baby, we're back. ;)
Man my favorite part is when someone makes a clutch shot and then the crowd goes haaaaaaaaaaa
Doesn’t matter where the Hoosiers stand, we’ll always have those iconic banners.
I’ll be watching this when I’m 82.
I miss seeing these IU moments...
Damn, I'm not even a Hoosier fan but it gave me goosebumps.
Im not even a IU fan but when this happened and i saw it live i went crazy!
this is an amazing video
this is like a freakin one shining moment movie.... damn that was a great shot! ^^
Awesome video
You guys are back allright...
simply beautiful....
Best basketball state in the world. Hoosier nation baby!!!!
TEARS! As a PROUD graduate from IU. HOO-HOO-HOO-HOOSIERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GO IU!!!!!!!!
Hell yeah, go hoosiers!!!!!!!!!
As a University of Memphis student and fan, my hatred of Kentucky basketball is in the same area as taxes, Alabama football, child abuse, food poisoning, and annoying custom ringtones. I've always had nothing but respect and props for the way Indiana plays it's basketball, and this game solidified Indiana's position as my favorite team in the Big Ten. Awesome game, awesome video, and to hell with Kensucky
I almost convinced my mom to drive down there and go to the game. Now that I have my license, I'm never missing a game this big again!
That one poor player in blue... Basically got trampled by the other team. Lmfao.
It's amazing how one huge shot like that can give thousands of people that kind of joy and excitement over their team. You can't fake something like that.
that game was true validation. it sent the message to the rest of the nation that the Hoosiers were BACK!!!!
Gives me chills
This gives me goosebumps
This was the best basketball game ever. I freaked out when that shot went in
