Fan Reaction to Indiana Beating Kentucky on Buzzer Beater
Hoosier Nation celebrates a buzzer-beater win over #1 Kentucky!
Background: Indiana University has a long and storied basketball history. In spring of 2008, former coach Kelvin Sampson was forced to resign amid serious NCAA allegations. Coach Tom Crean, who left Marquette for IU "because it's Indiana, it's Indiana" faced a monumental rebuilding task: the Hoosiers had lost 11 players from the previous year (3 transferred, 3 dismissed, 3 graduated, 2 NBA draft) and were penalized by the NCAA. Undersized and undermanned, the Hoosiers fought for three season, playing with passion and energy, but ultimately succumbing to better talent. Their record over those three seasons: 28-66, 8-46 in the Big Ten Conference. In fall of 2011, with a balanced and more-experienced roster, Hoosier Nation felt poised for a return to relevancy, perhaps even a post-season run. A soft schedule allowed IU to start the season 8-0, and though it felt different from the previous seasons under Coach Crean, few expected Indiana to be able to compete for 40 minutes with rival Kentucky, the top team in the country and one that features several future NBA stars. For over 39 minutes the teams traded blows, including 5 lead changes in the last two minutes. Then, catharsis for Hoosier Nation...

I cry every time I watch it! It will never ever get old!! ❤️
I was about 10-15 rows up behind the basket on the other side of the court and I told my girlfriend when Verdell was about to inbound the ball that if IU hit a 3 pointer at the buzzer she needed to be ready to start moving down to the court. After the shot she started jumping up and down and I had to grab her arm because people behind us were starting to move and I didn't want to get trampled. Absolutely unreal experience
The stadium registered on the richtor scale for a second.
Not really a Basketball fan at all, and not an Indiana fan, but I am a competitive sports person and I know what the desire to WIN is as a fan and competitor and watching the emotions come out from the 1 lonely guy in his living room to the sports bars to the actual arena and you can't help but get emotional watching this. INCREDIBLE moment here. Goosebumps!
This is my favorite ending to a basketball game ever. I'm not even a fan of either team, but I'll never forget watching the ending of this with my mom and dad, I don't even know why we turned it on but I'm so glad we did. Unbelievable, unbelievable, can't believe it
How is it that Indiana whips KY's ass every year in the High School All-Star games, but can't seem to beat the University of KY (except for this one)....??
That boy has basket ball in his hands and he has red hat on his head and he is watching a basket ball game and he is saying yes and what is that on the back of his white shirt a red w
I remember watching this
...and they got the scoreboard wrong
Wait wait wait, if you pause at 1:14, kentucky is 75 and Indiana (my favorite) has 70, how is it good?
I was at the library when this happened omg it was so loud and funny
this happened on my 10th birthday and i remember it so vividly and now i’m a junior at IU! this is still legendary!
These were 2 great teams. Maybe the best 2 of that decade. IU was poorly coached but had Dipo, Zeller, and Whatford, all NBA talent. Plus a big cast of really good supporting players. Hulls was lethal from 3 and was a great point guard. Will Sheehey was mega-talented and was huge off the bench; just never quite learned how to channel his energy consistently. Bit of a loose cannon.
I agree these two teams were probably the best two teams in College BBall that year. IU won the regular season game and UK got revenge in the tournament and went on to win the title. If IU won that game they would have won the title
I will never forget the ESPN camera shot of a stunned coach Tom Crean after the winning basketball was scored and ESPN putting up the winning points on the Kentucky side of the scoreboard line. For seven seconds, it looked like UK won 75-70.
I know others will disagree with me but I thought Tom Crean was a pretty good coach. The way he substituted was a little different for sure but I still liked him.
Unbelievable what a game
INDIANA WINS THE GAME DOWN BY 5 UNBELIEVABLE !!!!
I love how they just storm the court😄.
2:49
I will never forget being at this game, what a moment. Still get chills watching it.
Italian fan enjoys with you.... This is Indiana. Support since 1987
There's nothing like being a Hoosier basketball fan. Nothing.
I'm a die hard kentucky fan. I wish we could start the rivalry again with Indiana. It was such a long term rivalry for both teams. It's historical almost. Louisville just canceled due to covid so we have a open game at rupp. If Indiana came to rupp college basketball would explode.
After that game, IU lost eight of its next eleven games...and we know how the rematch turned out
If memory serves, thats about the last time IU had anything much to cheer about
Dear IU fans: The top ten programs in the country don't rush the floor. Where does that put you?
Always think of my dad when seeing vids of this game. He had just been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer a week before this game yet I still think it was one of the greatest moments of his life. Just glad I went over to his house that night to watch it with him. I lost him but will never lose this great memory.
I had to watch this again - putting the video to the Hoosiers music just made me weep (with joy, of course!)
Wow
Zeller with the monster screen that freed up Verdell. He was able to take out Wats defender because of it.
I was at home I lost my mind when That shot went in my blue heeler nipped me on the leg he didn’t know what to do he thought I lost my mind which I did. One of my favorite moments in Hoosier history
Hoosier fans act like winning a regular season game is the greatest day of their life. Fuckin losers😂
Doesn’t matter where the Hoosiers stand, we’ll always have those iconic banners.
We want crean back lol
Now they’re to afraid to play against iu
Iu iu iu iu iu!!!!
as a michigan fan that was a great game, remembering watching it. love the video with the theme of the song from Hoosiers in the background.
No there didnt win the ball game look it the score 1:18
They win a early season non conference game at home by one point and they act like they'd won the national championship. They storm the court. Assault our team and fans. They forget that WE won that national championship that year. That was after we wiped up the court with their sorry has been a$$ in the sweet 16. Their fan base is the most delusional bunch of pathetic morons in college sports. That program hasn't done crap in over a generation. They even have a Latin name hoosierinium delousionus hasbeenitae.
The Kentucky coach refuses to play at IU ever again......bottom line a good series and it should happen agin!!
My son and I were jumping with joy in our living room!!
I’ll be watching this when I’m 82.
Too bad they haven’t beat Purdue in basketball in the last four years
This gives me goosebumps
Impossible to watch without tearing up
From an IU alumni, I didn’t like IU storming the court after the game. Bob Knight would have NEVER allowed this. I’m surprised that IU didn’t get fined for this. Storming the court is a safety issue, and you get fined these days for that. Tom Crean had lost control of his fans.
Indiana will never be the same without Knight. They have dropped at least two tiers since they ran him off.
Perfect using the Hoosiers movie soundtrack!! Well done!
So basically, nearly 8 years since we've had anything to cheer for.
2:20 that’s my dad
