I've seen whiskey barrels made into chairs and dog houses, but your project was a first for me!... 4,316 holes, you do love your Momma! Nice work April...congrats on your new job!
I gave up on woodworking after my basement shop got flooded. After watching your videos I want to start some new projects. Thank you April. Love your videos
That is so cool!!! The first thing that came to my mind is patience.....lots and lots of patience, but it paid off. It's absolutely beautiful. Throw a round glass piece on top and that would make the best patio table ever!
April Wilkerson oh girl, I meant keep that lid on there with the glass on top. But I think it'll be beautiful on her front porch. But you know, she'll need a second one to balance it out lol. Jk!!!! I can see why this took more than a week to complete.
Ooh! Roy Sigurd suggested colored bulbs, which is a great idea. Even better there are LED strip lights available that can display different colors by a little controller, and can even be set to gradually change on their own. This is a project that has TONS of cool possibilities!
that is some serious drilling! Looks really nice. My favorite parts are between 4:04 and 4:22 and when you recommend to think outside of the barrel. I've tried with electricity a few times and twice it went definitely wrong. Sure your mum is proud of you.
What an awesome project April. Your creativity is one of the reasons I love to follow your videos. And your reaction to when the lights when on was truly priceless. What an authentic moment that was.
Great Job! It is a beautiful creation your mom should be proud of how well it turned out and all the hard work that you put in the creation of it. Keep up the good work Dan
Super job kiddo. you have taken "tin punch" to a hole new level...Sorry I just had to. All kidding aside I imagine she will love it and I just loved how excited you got when your wiring job worked on the first try. Keep that infectious spirit alive and keep watching your subscribers list grow. Thank you for all you do and the spirit you you keep giving all of us. Mike
Hi April. Nice project and respect for having the patience to drill all those holes. The tree hugger in me compels me to point out that you could get the same light output per hole for 1% of the energy input. Paint the inside of the barrel matt white and replaced the incandecent bulbs with LEDs. The white inside would make it work like an integrating sphere so you would have very even light output from each hole.
Just like how much excitement is involved when it all works on the first try :) i know a lot about electrical work, but it was just amazing how much happiness you expressed. I hope i have some free time for fun projects like yours. I watch your videos, they are pretty amazing, and also like it when you show your mistakes. I think those are more important than whole project. Hope you read new comments on old videos. Cheers.
Beautiful job April. I now know what to use my Scotch whiskey barrels for now! Far better project than the planters I had planned. Love your background music too. Very soothing. Keep up the great work. Fantastic as always.
Fantastic April! If I can offer two suggestions: 1. (altho I haven't read in the comments but I'm sure someone already said...) Use CF bulbs for a multitude of reasons. 2. Since you are only trying to light one half of the barrel at one time, vertically divide it with a board (using your seasonal equator that you made). Paint everything white inside including the board. Make your light stand so you can just pop it over to the season of your choice when the time is right. You'll 3x to 10x your light.
What an awesome labour of love for your mom. You're a good daughter April :) Loved your reaction when it lit up on the first try!! When I turn my whiskey barrel pens its cool to smell the Jack coming out :) Mark
Hi April, I just started watching your videos and wanted to say I really like them. It's great to see someone who enjoys their projects so much, love the enthusiasm. Great work on the barrel, keep up the good work.
Great project April! Your mom sounds like mine, things just show up and then there's that phone call, "do you think you could, that is if you're not too busy". We always do for our moms. Thanks for sharing!
you are a inspiration to all the women young and old out there that think they can,t do this type of work or projects. keep up the great work!! love your name april!!! why because i was born april 20 th lol
You have a lot of patience to drill so many holes, I'm not so sure there would be a whiskey barrel left if I had to drill that many holes. I have to say the project came out really nice and I know your parents really appreciated it when you gave it to them. Love your videos ... keep them coming!
April, looks like you had a barrels of fun, looks fantastic, great idea, say you wrists are in bits after drilling all those holes, end result was more then worth it,
A piece of dried curved oak from a dead oak tree which you can find by taking a walk through the backwoods if you live close to a forest or any hiking trails. I like what you've done to that whiskey barrel....A "BIG THUMBS-UP" Again April....
Hi April seen quite a few of your videos like the Barrel works well I have a few around my workshop out side I am in the UK pleased that you are doing what you like full time now all the best kind regards David
Your incredible! I'm only twelve and I don't do a lot of DIY things, but you and your work has really inspired me!! I love your channel, keep up the great wirk💛💛
: ) Thank you Charlotte. I was 24 before I started doing DIY stuff, so it ok that you don't do a lot right now. However, just as long as you know you can, that's the important part.
So, April's my new femme hero :) I just sent my husband a link and asked him for a woodworking shop. I've been buying him all these nice tools and they just go into storage. It might be my time to pull them out and use them :)
Hey April. What a cool project. Anything with lighting I love. I'm sure ur mom will too. What a loving daughter you are! And - priceless reaction with the switch, btw. Another spectacular job, kiddo. 😉 Troy
April, I just found your videos this week and love them. Your inventiveness is fantastic...you are representing Texas well! This video inspired me for a project for our two wine barrels. I will send you photos when they are complete. Keep up the great work!
Very cool project, my wife would like this. guess i need to start looking for a barrel. Keep up the great work that you are doing. and as always it's a pleasure to watch your videos.
What a great idea and what a good looking result. One quick suggestion I might offer is that you might try using .040 aluminum for the light support, it is commonly used in the sign industry. It can easily be bent or drilled also it would add reflection providing even light output. I would also suggest using LEDs which work well in a damp situations. Great job!
First, awesome project :) Second, yes, I was going to ask the number of holes :P Third, as an electrician, there is nothing more satisfying than to finish a big project late at night and turning on all the lights from all the rooms :) it's just magical
What a fantastic job April. I respect your patience drilling those holes! I've recently bought a wine barrel myself and have been contemplating adding lighting as well, making it a self-contained 12V battery system (somehow) using either a battery inside or a solar panel in the lid. Anyway, I'll see how I go! Again, well done!
Specular April! I could see all the detail in the illuminated shot, especially the butterfly's. I always wanted a Whiskey barrel, preferably full ;) Great video
: ) haha. I've only ever messed with wiring once before so I really didn't expect it to work and was just shocked and thrilled when it did. Thanks Bob!
That is a very cool project. I love it. Just a thought, I bet you could wire in one of those pots that melt those scented wax blocks, and when the lights are on, it would also give off any scent you choose for the season. Keep up the great work.
Awesome project and nice commitment to the flowers. That's crazy long for each one. Yeah I was going to suggest making a fake top with unevenly space fake joints. Will be interesting to see how that turns out in a follow up video.
April, beautiful project. Fast thoughts on the lighting, perhaps mini floods or spot lights might give you the brighter shine you are looking for. As for the top what about adding a planter to the lid, with a handle hidden in the middle. Wish I could make one myself, but my HOA would never go for it....
That is just awesome. Great job April!. I would even give some props to the brand of drill you were using. I don't think I have gotten that many holes out of any cordless drill I have owned.
That turned out way better than I thought it was going to, great job & I just love your excitement & happiness when the lights come on, keep up the good work, :-D
Loved the video and how excited you got when the lights came on. Keep p the good work April. Also your little wave good by at the end of each video it a great touch,
This really came out nice. I do a lot of work at the local winery making all kinds of stuff out of the barrels, I hope the owner doesn't see this or I will be making a few of these for him. My hands are tired just thinking about it.lol.
Looks great April. I can't imagine spending that much time drilling holes. I think I'd be seeing those patterns on everything for weeks afterwards. Two thoughts on this: 1. How about a dimmer switch rather than a simple switch. I don't know if it would make any difference at all but it might be worth considering. 2. If you mounted the switch on the side of the barrel, near the top at the point where spring turns into winter, you could leave the lid free of any wires. That way, when you convert the top to a lift off lid, as you mention in the video, it can be lifted out without the worry of the wires getting dislodged or getting in the way.
Me and Genevieve love it! You could use the left over wood on the lid for another special project :) I know Mark Christopher uses it for turning and LOVES the smell!
This would be a good decoration for your place! Oh, and something Genevieve could help with. You start on one side and her on the other then meet in the middle.
I've seen whiskey barrels made into chairs and dog houses, but your project was a first for me!... 4,316 holes, you do love your Momma! Nice work April...congrats on your new job!
My goodness! No wonder ur hands hurt! Please take care of them!!! I'm looking forward to seeing ur work for years to come 🙏🙏🙏!
Thanks! That light would be blinding if you used glass...but maybe a stone top? Still give you a table top surface but would block the light.
April Wilkerson oh girl, I meant keep that lid on there with the glass on top. But I think it'll be beautiful on her front porch. But you know, she'll need a second one to balance it out lol. Jk!!!! I can see why this took more than a week to complete.

That is a very inspirational project. It has to look great in the porch at night.
love your excitement at lights working on the first try. Only you would have thought of a giant night light for the front porch. Great idea.
April, your Mother has a wonderful Daughter. Great project, thank you for sharing.
She certainly does! How cool is that??
Wow. I'm amazed you didn't burn up your drill. Lol. Looks great. Your Mom will love it.
What an awesome project April. Your creativity is one of the reasons I love to follow your videos. And your reaction to when the lights when on was truly priceless. What an authentic moment that was.
Your surprise when the lights turned on for the first time was great April. Made me smile. Very nice work! Cool project.
4:02 was the best, you had me grinning along with you!
That's a lot of love in one barrel for your mom.
I can't even believe so much work that you did....wow you must really love your mom
April that is the coolest thing I have ever seen made from a whiskey barrel! Very awesome project.
It's nice that this barrel was kept and can now light the way home. Excellent project.
Great Job! It is a beautiful creation your mom should be proud of how well it turned out and all the hard work that you put in the creation of it.
Keep up the good work
Dan

: ) Thanks Mike!
Almost every other whiskey barrel project I have seen is either a planter or some sort of coffee table. This is a great alternative.
Nice April. This might be my favorite project of yours. Great job.
That was so cool, the butterfly’s look more like hummingbirds. No matter what you call them they look great.
Just like how much excitement is involved when it all works on the first try :) i know a lot about electrical work, but it was just amazing how much happiness you expressed. : ) Thanks Nick.
That was awesome!! A diffusion material would make it light up evenly... But all that work makes it look awesome!! Nice Work April!!
Nice job April, looks great in the dark.
Fantastic April!

Your enthusiasm is brilliant! I really enjoyed this video. Your reaction to the lights was priceless 😄
: ) That was pretty exciting for me.
Very nice April, not every day do you see one of those. Loved it when the lights worked, priceless.
Wow, really cool project April!
really cool April - thanks for the mention - I bet your mom will love it!
What an idea! A lot of work, but came out really neat!
April that turned out awesome.
What an awesome labour of love for your mom. You're a good daughter April :)

Hi April,
I just started watching your videos and wanted to say I really like them. It's great to see someone who enjoys their projects so much, love the enthusiasm. Great work on the barrel, keep up the good work.
Very impressive and the whisky barrel turned out fabulous too!!
The joy of 1st try success! Congrats April, it's a great project! I would have nightmares with that many holes.
Hats off to your patience I would have struggled to stay motivated. Beautiful effect and a great idea, thanks April.
That turned out extremely cool! You're a good daughter, that was a lot of work!
Very clever idea.Looks amazing and will last forever.Of course you are nuts for taking it on Lol......Well done
Your perseverance level is higher than mine! Well done!
Hard & beautiful work. congratulations April!
Great project April! Your mom sounds like mine, things just show up and then there's that phone call, "do you think you could, that is if you're not too busy". We always do for our moms. Thanks for sharing!
The spectacular results make all that work worthwhile! I hope my wife doesn't see this project or else I'll be on the hook to make one for her.
I hope she sees it...; )

Turned out really nice April, very cool idea. It was worth the wait from last week to get to see the whole build process.
oh damn that's a lot of holes😂 that project was" off the chain"... your mom is lucky to have you around. thanks for sharing.

Great project April, I'm a fan from the UK. Love your channel.
This is absolutely amazing. I love it. Brilliant creative idea. I have a cpl of whiskey barrels waiting to work on and this has given me more ideas.

Have mercy girl! You are a lesson in patience. But the result is beautiful!
Specular April! I could see all the detail in the illuminated shot, especially the butterfly's. I always wanted a Whiskey barrel, preferably full ;) Great video
:) that genuine "eeee!!" made me smile.. that was awesome.
That looks like a HUGE amount of work, but it turned out really cool. Great job!
: ) haha. I've only ever messed with wiring once before so I really didn't expect it to work and was just shocked and thrilled when it did. Thanks Bob!
April Wilkerson
You might consider a different adjective than "shocked" when describing your experience with electrical work. :)
I've only just discovered you a few days ago. I LOVE how excited you get when thinks work out.
That is a very cool project. I love it. Just a thought, I bet you could wire in one of those pots that melt those scented wax blocks, and when the lights are on, it would also give off any scent you choose for the season. Keep up the great work.
I love the mini-fatmax on your keychain! You never know when you'll need to measure something.
My mom would have loved that. Great job.
Awesome project and nice commitment to the flowers. That's crazy long for each one. Yeah I was going to suggest making a fake top with unevenly space fake joints. Will be interesting to see how that turns out in a follow up video.
GREAT project April. You are always very creative in your designs.
Keep up the good project vids and thanks
The surprise gasp when the lights worked the first time - priceless!! 😂👏🏽
This is awesome. I bet your mom loves it. Great project!

Absolutely Beautiful!!!!! Very creative. Thanks for sharing!
That turned out way better than I thought it was going to, great job & I just love your excitement & happiness when the lights come on, keep up the good work, :-D
Loved the video and how excited you got when the lights came on. Keep p the good work April. Also your little wave good by at the end of each video it a great touch,
That's a real beaut April,
I can see a porch light like that being very popular. Its a great accent light without being to over powering.
Regards,
Bob
Absolute labor of love. Awesome job!
April, I love it! It's very creative.
Job well done, original idea too, very cool!
Greetings from Germany
That's a lot of hole and my favorite part of this video was when you got excited over the lights working. love your videos keep them coming
That is a lot of holes! Your reaction when you switched on the lights was so genuine and funny, that's why I subscribe! :)
This really came out nice. I do a lot of work at the local winery making all kinds of stuff out of the barrels, I hope the owner doesn't see this or I will be making a few of these for him. My hands are tired just thinking about it.lol.
That is so cool. My favorite part was your laugh when you turned that switch. Great feeling when something works as planned, huh?
Oh yeah, I was actually shocked that it worked. I don't know much about wiring or electricity so I almost couldn't believe it when it turned on! : )
What a really cool project April. Thanks for sharing.
Looks great April. I can't imagine spending that much time drilling holes. I think I'd be seeing those patterns on everything for weeks afterwards.

Aww, I wanted to see your mom's reaction. Great job as always :) Totally addicted to your vids.
That looked exhausting drilling so many holes... But the results are awesome. Looks great all lit up!
Neat job. Bet your mom loved it.
Me and Genevieve love it! You could use the left over wood on the lid for another special project :) I know Mark Christopher uses it for turning and LOVES the smell!

April Wilkerson awwww... kinda like how we eat spaghetti!
