The Kennedy Center's Mark Twain Prize, which is named to honor one of the world’s greatest humorists, was awarded to Adam Sandler at a gala performance featuring some of the biggest names in comedy -- including Chris Rock, Conan O'Brien, Ben Stiller, Dana Carvey, Pete Davidson, Drew Barrymore, Jennifer Anniston, Idina Menzel, David Spade, and more -- on March 19, 2023, and aired nationally on CNN on March 26, 2023.
The Mark Twain Prize for American Humor recognizes individuals who have had an impact on American society in ways similar to the distinguished 19th-century novelist and essayist Samuel Clemens, best known as Mark Twain. As a social commentator, satirist, and creator of characters, Clemens was a fearless observer of society, who startled many while delighting and informing many more with his uncompromising perspective on social injustice and personal folly.
“Adam Sandler has entertained audiences for over three decades with his films, music, and his tenure as a fan favorite cast member on SNL,” said Kennedy Center President Deborah F. Rutter about this year’s recipient. “Adam has created characters that have made us laugh, cry, and cry from laughing. I am looking forward to a laughter-filled evening like no other as we celebrate his career at a ceremony that is sure to bring together the best in comedy.”

I used to watch him every night at 11 when I was like 15-17 he never misses
His hiccups are more funnier cuz of his improv skills
Wrong. He *was* better at this once. But in the last few years, with any public appearance he's made (Emmy's, SNL and this), he comes out nervous, out of breath and high strung. In the 80's, this is what all people on cocaine acted like. Maybe he's been so cooped up doing a boring podcast that any TV gig gets him all wound up.
you can tell Conan really misses being in front of a live audience. Absolute killer performance.
He does occasionally have live audiences for his podcast.

Conan was the last of the talk show hosts that actually understood and promoted true comedy. He is deeply missed

Late night talk shows truly died the second he took his departure.
Haven't watched late night shows since Conan left. Tried a lot of them, but all of them were honestly so bad. Really glad we still have the podcast.
I like Seth Myers, but there's no other late night talk show I go out of my way to see.
Dude his podcast is hilarious and he gets to interview his celeb "friends" longer than what was allowed on TV.

@@Slaphappy1975If you see the other clips where other celebrities roast their father, Adam Sandler, you can tell the daughters are not feeling the jokes. But with Conan they react differently because they actually like Conan. They're families get along well because they're neighbors and the kids go to the same school.
Man... I so miss CONAN, this is what's missing in the comedy world. His brilliant, quick-witted approach and delivery.

@@abisheknayyar Julia Louis Dreyfus won the Twain Prize a few years ago and she’s never done standup comedy in her life, whereas Conan kinda did that every day for 30 years on live TV

The Tonight Show messed up when they booted Conan! His TBS show was so damn funny! The best skit he did was when Ice Cube, Kevin Hart, Conan & the student driver went out to get food and weed! Look it up.... I cry every time I watch it! (Pho-dee-ounce)!

Conan should be getting a prize like this, everything from his work on the Simpsons , To his cultural exploration documentaries, being one of the only talk show host who includes and treats his staff right, he’s still doing things now

It was so touching of Conan to come all the way here and say such kind things whist wearing a suit that once fit properly.
I mean he's so tall, it's unaffordable to tailor all that fabric, especially with the tv show off the air

Try saying hi to him if you meet him someday. I bet you will get a good wholesome story out of the encounter.
