JYP is a classic example of narcissistic leadership. He only enjoy the mentor role earlier in the mentorship when his students (got7) still have much to learn and look up to him, are easier to swayed by his opinions, his artistic vision. But as everyone grew and gained artistic vision of their own, they could clearly see through his bs and want to project their ideal into their own works too. This is where they collide. You can see it in the vid where JYP shut down JB's music sample after merely seconds of listening, and tracks after tracks. It's not just about JYP's way of screening music but also a prime example of power playing. He simply shut it down because "not good to listen to". It shows how he don't respect JB as a professional musician but emphasize more on his power, like "I can trash your entire creative career because I don't see it fit", that's the kind of message he imply, and that's how he wants the power balance to remain. It's not a matter of compromise, discuss what could be improve, what works and what not, but what he decides, so they better work hard and obey the power. Honestly, I believe each member will flourish after leaving the company but I feel really bad for Mark since he has so much potential in the music industry, both in Korea and China, if only he had the right footwork, support.
yeah this becomes clear when you take a look at how he still treats rain to this day. you can tell he still sees him as less than him, not as an equal artist whom he respects.

Like hyukoh or something. I followed jype groups from got7 to itzy, imo, none got as much downplayed/self esteem ruined by that hag jyp than got7. Aside from the lack of promos, and those times when they were not treated like decent human beings they were also downplayed by that hag a lot. At least groups like day6 and skz have better creative freedom better than got7. And groups like twice and itzy have better promos than got7. Got7 literally got worst of both things

I remember in 2017 when got7 and bts is in the same level of popularity. My classmates and I were so crazy over got7 back then, but suddenly got7 didn't got comeback and promotion. If only got7 have a better treatment by their company, they must've been one of the biggest boy group now.

Because every group debuts with a theme ? As idols they don’t make the theme but instead it’s their jobs to adapt to it? So sure it’s their individual colours but it’s not got7’s colours. I only heard the acoustic part and to be successful in the fine arts and musician industry, you would have to have access to prerecorded studio and sing the full lyrics of the song unfortunately I cannot even hear the words to the songs. I empathize with Got7 situation but can you record any songs with an MP3 recorder when you gain access to a prerecorded studio. I know jyp well enough to prove that he is a very amazing person and boss

You completely left out how JYP forced Jinyoung to go by "Jr" officially, for like 3-4 years because he didn't want him taking any of the spotlight away from JYP, having the same name. That's not really a big deal because lots of people do that sort of thing and have stage names and are fine with it, but once Jinyoung finally started going by his real name and asked everyone to start calling him Jinyoung, you could see how PISSED he'd get whenever someone accidentally still called him 'Junior' (although he'd try to hide it and definitely wasn't mean or anything), but it was because he'd HATED that name for so long but that's what the boss told him to go by.
NOW I GET WHY "JUNIOR" WAS USED. Jr. as in to refer him as the second who has the name JYP (and probably with the nuance that Jinyoung was lower than JYP) and now I get his frustration/anger when being called that.

He has the final say over the music his groups release hence why he can make his artists change their songs or reject them even though there's a 10 member board that votes on songs. He gives more freedom to Stray Kids.

I’m just so confused how jyp let’s day6 and stray kids make all their own music, but is then super controlling when it comes to got7. It seems selfish because he’s doing what he want to do for the group instead of what the group actually wants. It’s one thing to be strict about their songs, but the lack of promotion and lack of protection is so senseless. Ever since their debut, JYP had an image planned for them, but they’ve evolved as artists and JYP isn’t allowing them to nurture and develop that talent. It’s a shame since got7 has so much talent.
Bands arent very popular in Korea, JYP knows that, but let them debut anyways, since he doesn't feel threatened by them. Jae's (I think that's his name? Not sure) growing popularity both domestically and internationally caught him off guard though, which is why Day6 get bad promotions. Stray Kids are a group of talented, but short boys. Like under average height short. JYP knew the public was gonna see that, and pick them apart for their looks. Plus he doesn't protect the members of Stray Kids from hate. Luckily because of Stray Kids hard working producers/rappers, he still makes money out of them, but doesn't feel threatened. Got7 was a whole different case though. They had the full perfect idol group package: English speakers, good looking members, members with great solo potential, outstanding dancers etc. which is why he was so cruel to them. He always wants to control. He's probably a narcissist.
Day6 was just a "side" group for JYP (like how 2pm was the main boygroup and 2am neglected child) and they debuted as a band with more mature fans instead of pop idols. So more freedom was given. Stray kids was a experiment from JYP. They never had hip hop group before, it was outside of JYP idol boys. He wanted to try YG style i think. Less attention on visual e.t.c So this leaves Got7 as their only standard idol boygroup. Thats why Got7 was under hard control.
I'm not saying it's because if GOT7 had full control it be clear they were better singers/songwriters then JYP who seems determined to make sure that no other male idol under his label is seen as anything less then inferior to him and his music, but that's what I am saying
Not to say Stray kids or Day6 are not super talented they are, and I am a huge fan of both, but I don't think JYP sees them as a threat, so he basically leaves them alone

This video genuinely hurt me because it really showed how badly JYPE has f*cked over one of the best artists they’ve ever had. It upset me to see how the guys have wanted to branch out and do more but JYP apparently can’t handle that. It upset me to see that JYP himself has his head too far up his ass to see everything that’s happened. That or he’s ignoring it. I saw another comment saying that if they had proper management, they’d be as big as BTS, and honestly I see it. If they’ve already achieved so much with this horrible management and mistreatment, imagine where they’d be if they had good management.

Like no one rejects a song just because it sounds like a foreign song. I don't even know on what basis did he categories that as a foreign song. Whole of kpop use various genres and are mostly inspired by western music. Jyp himself has made songs that sound like western music. Well the girls are talented lyricists themselves, they've written some really great songs and besides they want to go for a girl crush concept, but JYP won't allow that. Twice became very famous in Korea because of Cheer Up and JYP wants to maintain their Korean popularity with cute and repetitive, catchy lyrics.
JYP never debuted top 1 popular boygroup, unlike SM and YG. Their girl group always becomes super popular but not his boygroups.2 pm was veeery popular yes, but they were never legendary like Big Bang or TVXQ. But both 2pm and Got7 had potential to become even bigger if they had hit songs. JYP boygroups never produce hit songs because JYPs own taste sucks. JYP should admit it ,and stop interfering their boygroup songs. Honestly this 2 boygroups became popular thanx to their personality and variety shows instead of JYP promotion.

I really don’t like that JYP doesn’t let a lot of his groups have creative freedom over their music. I’m pretty sure the only reason he lets Stray Kids have free reign on production, no matter why he says he does, is because Chan literally would not back down about it. He had to work himself to exhaustion and really bad health JUST for JYP to let him and the rest of 3racha produce music for Stray Kids. And JYP has shown that he is actually lowkey terrified of half of them. Especially Minho. You can certainly tell that certain members of Stray Kids are still not that fond of him. And even recently, you can see that Jackson seems irked or uninterested when JYP is present or mentioned. Not to mention that JYP has treated Youngjae like shit for literal years. Jackson knows what he’s doing, he’s built himself a successful solo career and his own label from almost scratch. He would take care of Got7 and JB would be able to produce music that he loves and that he’s proud of. They’ll be able to grow and have freedom and promote in the states. Because JYP doesn’t like when his boy groups do better than him or when they have more fans internationally. So he limits them and mistreats them. That hasn’t happened with Stray Kids because they became so popular so quickly and if he tried any shit like that with them now he’d get the wrath of not only Chan but the entirety of STAY. Edit: y’all I completely agree with everything in the replies and yeah don’t even get me started on how Izty and Twice are treated in terms of not being able to control their production. Also I know that Jackson’s label is Chinese, saying that I wanted them to move under his label was more of a hopeful joke than anything else because know they aren’t going to.

This is what he did to 2PM also. They blocked taecyeon from his Hollywood debut even after he was casted. The legendary song my house was only promoted for a week. He kept on rejecting songs produced by members and forced them to sing his songs. Didn't allow 2PM members to appear on korean variety shows. All the members kept on talking about sasaeng attacks even published about them on their social media accounts but jype did nothing. Finally taec had to leave jype in order to protect his acting career and his new agency took measures to protect him from antis also. Since we can't do anything for 2PM now I'm glad that igot7s are trying to protect the boys. Please don't let the same thing happen to got7 also

The thing with JYP himself is he's controlling. If something isn't the way he wants, he rejects it. People always bring up the fact that Twice is his favorite but Twice doesn't write their own songs so their music is 100% controlled by him and he likes that. The thing is he wants Got7 to have their own sound, and there's nothing wrong with that because you should want a group to find their identity but he also wants Got7 to have his sound, songs that he would sing. I don't want to go in on him because he is an artist and has a technical view on things when it comes to vocals, dancing, song writing etc but he has to give them more freedom to express themselves or the guys will fall out of love with their music and you never want an artists to hate the music they sing. Thats why people sh!t on their discography because its mostly songs he (JYP) would release, which he fails to realize isn't something teens/20s year olds want to listen to. Instead of giving them a chance and letting them release the songs and see how the public/fans react to it, he shuts them down because it doesn't suit HIM.
When you say they will fall out of love with music, it really hits me because i remember i read somewhere that after the jaypark issues, after he left and started to become solo artist he said almost the same thing on how he almost lost his passion for music after the issue but glad that he picked up himself and decided to become a solo artists and found his colours and passion for music back
I got goosebumps in the end when the video shows GOT7's achievements and contributions. GOT7 surely deserve better treatment and hospitality. Truly sad to see this happened to them as they are the first K-pop group that I know and root for. Their debut song hit me hard from the first time I heard it. Hope they can and will debut as a group of 7 again under a different company and a new group name just like Highlight in the future. But some of them have already signed up with a company like Bambam tho. Huhu, but I will continue to root for them. GOT7 FIGHTING!

Dev Singh it’s completely legally alright if they don’t breach any contracts and just choose to not resign after their contract ends, but yes, some people still choose to use the “company is family” narrative and it might be seen as betrayal, moreover jyp is still a big3 company and has resources, but honestly they’ve made enough money to set up their own agency like highlight.

Watching this 6 months later and still nothing has changed. Last piece comeback is worse than the others, there are no promotion, no tv show appearances, they put the albums on amazon but we were not going to get them until January. The GOT7 instagram posted nothing of the upcoming comeback and still has not posted anything. Mark was the one keeping the fans updated with the music videos. JYPE promotion for GOT7 is a joke, and they are not taking what we said and have done seriously and it annoys me because the boys deserve so much more and they are not given the recognition due to the lack of support from the stupid company and JYP himself. This comeback was sabotaged just like the others, there was suppose to be no activities of the other artists on the day of comeback; however, a group released their English version of their title track, and another released their 2021 seasons greetings.

JYP is a classic example of narcissistic leadership. He only enjoy the mentor role earlier in the mentorship when his students (got7) still have much to learn and look up to him, are easier to swayed by his opinions, his artistic vision. But as everyone grew and gained artistic vision of their own, they could clearly see through his bs and want to project their ideal into their own works too. This is where they collide. You can see it in the vid where JYP shut down JB's music sample after merely seconds of listening, and tracks after tracks. It's not just about JYP's way of screening music but also a prime example of power playing. He simply shut it down because "not good to listen to". It shows how he don't respect JB as a professional musician but emphasize more on his power, like "I can trash your entire creative career because I don't see it fit", that's the kind of message he imply, and that's how he wants the power balance to remain. It's not a matter of compromise, discuss what could be improve, what works and what not, but what he decides, so they better work hard and obey the power.
Honestly, I believe each member will flourish after leaving the company but I feel really bad for Mark since he has so much potential in the music industry, both in Korea and China, if only he had the right footwork, support.

You completely left out how JYP forced Jinyoung to go by "Jr" officially, for like 3-4 years because he didn't want him taking any of the spotlight away from JYP, having the same name.
That's not really a big deal because lots of people do that sort of thing and have stage names and are fine with it, but once Jinyoung finally started going by his real name and asked everyone to start calling him Jinyoung, you could see how PISSED he'd get whenever someone accidentally still called him 'Junior' (although he'd try to hide it and definitely wasn't mean or anything), but it was because he'd HATED that name for so long but that's what the boss told him to go by.

He has the final say over the music his groups release hence why he can make his artists change their songs or reject them even though there's a 10 member board that votes on songs. He gives more freedom to Stray Kids.

I’m just so confused how jyp let’s day6 and stray kids make all their own music, but is then super controlling when it comes to got7. It seems selfish because he’s doing what he want to do for the group instead of what the group actually wants. It’s one thing to be strict about their songs, but the lack of promotion and lack of protection is so senseless. Ever since their debut, JYP had an image planned for them, but they’ve evolved as artists and JYP isn’t allowing them to nurture and develop that talent. It’s a shame since got7 has so much talent.
Bands arent very popular in Korea, JYP knows that, but let them debut anyways, since he doesn't feel threatened by them. Jae's (I think that's his name? Not sure) growing popularity both domestically and internationally caught him off guard though, which is why Day6 get bad promotions. Stray Kids are a group of talented, but short boys. Like under average height short. JYP knew the public was gonna see that, and pick them apart for their looks. Plus he doesn't protect the members of Stray Kids from hate. Luckily because of Stray Kids hard working producers/rappers, he still makes money out of them, but doesn't feel threatened. Got7 was a whole different case though. They had the full perfect idol group package: English speakers, good looking members, members with great solo potential, outstanding dancers etc. which is why he was so cruel to them. He always wants to control. He's probably a narcissist.

Stray kids was a experiment from JYP. They never had hip hop group before, it was outside of JYP idol boys. He wanted to try YG style i think. Less attention on visual e.t.c So this leaves Got7 as their only standard idol boygroup. Thats why Got7 was under hard control.
I'm not saying it's because if GOT7 had full control it be clear they were better singers/songwriters then JYP who seems determined to make sure that no other male idol under his label is seen as anything less then inferior to him and his music, but that's what I am saying

Well the girls are talented lyricists themselves, they've written some really great songs and besides they want to go for a girl crush concept, but JYP won't allow that. They deserve to be called out.

I really don’t like that JYP doesn’t let a lot of his groups have creative freedom over their music. I’m pretty sure the only reason he lets Stray Kids have free reign on production, no matter why he says he does, is because Chan literally would not back down about it. He had to work himself to exhaustion and really bad health JUST for JYP to let him and the rest of 3racha produce music for Stray Kids. And JYP has shown that he is actually lowkey terrified of half of them. Especially Minho. You can certainly tell that certain members of Stray Kids are still not that fond of him. And even recently, you can see that Jackson seems irked or uninterested when JYP is present or mentioned. Not to mention that JYP has treated Youngjae like shit for literal years.
But the fact that he rejects JB’s work over and over until it’s to his personal liking, completely destroys the aspect of an artist’s sound. GOT7 have been described as not really having a set in stone “sound” to their songs. Something that tells you “oh this is definitely a GOT7 song” and I feel like that’s because JYP doesn’t let JB produce what he feels is right for his own group, he forces him to rearrange it so he likes it himself and I hate it. The rest of the group have input on their songs and they like them and make them the way they want to sing it, but then they’re shot down because it’s not to JYP’s personal preference. GOT7 could very much have a “sound” by now, but it’s JYP’s fault that they don’t.
Tbh if their mistreatment continues, I want them to move under Jackson’s label. Jackson knows what he’s doing, he’s built himself a successful solo career and his own label from almost scratch. He would take care of Got7 and JB would be able to produce music that he loves and that he’s proud of. They’ll be able to grow and have freedom and promote in the states. Because JYP doesn’t like when his boy groups do better than him or when they have more fans internationally. So he limits them and mistreats them. That hasn’t happened with Stray Kids because they became so popular so quickly and if he tried any shit like that with them now he’d get the wrath of not only Chan but the entirety of STAY.
Edit: y’all I completely agree with everything in the replies and yeah don’t even get me started on how Izty and Twice are treated in terms of not being able to control their production. Also I know that Jackson’s label is Chinese, saying that I wanted them to move under his label was more of a hopeful joke than anything else because know they aren’t going to.

This is what he did to 2PM also. They blocked taecyeon from his Hollywood debut even after he was casted. The legendary song my house was only promoted for a week. He kept on rejecting songs produced by members and forced them to sing his songs. Didn't allow 2PM members to appear on korean variety shows. All the members kept on talking about sasaeng attacks even published about them on their social media accounts but jype did nothing. Finally taec had to leave jype in order to protect his acting career and his new agency took measures to protect him from antis also. Since we can't do anything for 2PM now I'm glad that igot7s are trying to protect the boys. Please don't let the same thing happen to got7 also

The thing with JYP himself is he's controlling. If something isn't the way he wants, he rejects it. People always bring up the fact that Twice is his favorite but Twice doesn't write their own songs so their music is 100% controlled by him and he likes that. The thing is he wants Got7 to have their own sound, and there's nothing wrong with that because you should want a group to find their identity but he also wants Got7 to have his sound, songs that he would sing. I don't want to go in on him because he is an artist and has a technical view on things when it comes to vocals, dancing, song writing etc but he has to give them more freedom to express themselves or the guys will fall out of love with their music and you never want an artists to hate the music they sing. Thats why people sh!t on their discography because its mostly songs he (JYP) would release, which he fails to realize isn't something teens/20s year olds want to listen to. Instead of giving them a chance and letting them release the songs and see how the public/fans react to it, he shuts them down because it doesn't suit HIM.

When you say they will fall out of love with music, it really hits me because i remember i read somewhere that after the jaypark issues, after he left and started to become solo artist he said almost the same thing on how he almost lost his passion for music after the issue but glad that he picked up himself and decided to become a solo artists and found his colours and passion for music back

I got goosebumps in the end when the video shows GOT7's achievements and contributions. GOT7 surely deserve better treatment and hospitality. Truly sad to see this happened to them as they are the first K-pop group that I know and root for. Their debut song hit me hard from the first time I heard it. Hope they can and will debut as a group of 7 again under a different company and a new group name just like Highlight in the future. But some of them have already signed up with a company like Bambam tho. Huhu, but I will continue to root for them. GOT7 FIGHTING!

Watching this 6 months later and still nothing has changed. Last piece comeback is worse than the others, there are no promotion, no tv show appearances, they put the albums on amazon but we were not going to get them until January. The GOT7 instagram posted nothing of the upcoming comeback and still has not posted anything. Mark was the one keeping the fans updated with the music videos. JYPE promotion for GOT7 is a joke, and they are not taking what we said and have done seriously and it annoys me because the boys deserve so much more and they are not given the recognition due to the lack of support from the stupid company and JYP himself. This comeback was sabotaged just like the others, there was suppose to be no activities of the other artists on the day of comeback; however, a group released their English version of their title track, and another released their 2021 seasons greetings.

JYP wanted to debut a girl group but investors preferred a boy group so he debuted GOT7. GOT7 had 2 Japan tours the same year they debuted because JYPE needed money. JYPE essentially just uses GOT7 for money and ppl think they're "flops" when in 2019 they had a world tour, 2 japan tours, seven secrets fanfest in Thailand, jus2 tour, bambam tour, Jackson fanmeeting, mark fanmeeting and jinyoung fanmeeting.
