An original beautiful staircase. At the top end of the staircase I would not make corner railings, but for the convenience of moving to the floor I would make a landing and 1 simple railing just on the side.

Great stuff guys, got one possible pro tip and that is when you're making the 2nd or 3rd cut of a section of trunk on the band saw (starting at 3:40) you can turn that log 180 degrees and put that flat cut side down on the band saw cut table/platform, then you're much closer to a good 90 degree angle (what you want) along the resulting corner/edge where the two cut sides of the log meet.

The stacked blocks looks good but you should have placed a nut or an anchor under each tread. Depending on the wood species and the grain direction, the wood can be expected to shrink from 4 to 12 percent as it goes from green to dry. In a 9 foot height, you can expect the wood at the center line to shrink between 4.3 and 13" inches.

      @Worzalla_Brothers  3 місяці тому

But if you chamfer the inside corner of the tread so when you walk up the staircase you will avoid hitting your shoulder and it’ll make it seem like you got more space then you took off. My thought. By welding some supports to fix on the side of the first metal roof, and bolting big wood brackets around the tower, you could shelf a deck all around it and put a door instead of the fixed window. And put glass and reclaimed windows above to grow plants.
You can also replicate the centerpiece of the carpentry twice, turn them updown to make thick chandeliers, and fix them with a copper painted chain or a pipe passing through the central empty square of the floors.
The base of the supports of the bannister needs an angle cut to look more organic.
    + steampunk stuff (copper pipes)

Great job guys, I liked the part were you guys where pushing the steps in place & the edit was cut sped up and you were all 3 bopping it into place with your feet , that was hilarious.
I hope the window next to the outside handrail and maybe the wood siding doesn't endup with rust pits later when the grinder shaving from cutting off the excess bolts on the base oxidizes. FYI in the future always cover anything that the grinder shavings will hit. Live and lurne is what life is all about.

Hahaha Thank you, ya those stone were definitely a challenge to move by hand and thanks for the input on grinder shavings, we will definitely take that into consideration in the future!

I honestly thought you guys were doing a steel spiral staircase. So when you started, I was like Matt and skeptical too. But the finished result is perfect.

I’m thinking an iron spiral staircase painted black with 2.5”-3” thick wood inlay steps would’ve tied in well with the railings. Also would allow for light to pass through the stairs.

I would have preferred a ready-made metal spiral stairs with a matching colour. At this time the wood spiral looks odd in shape and poor in finish.
Just a thought tho I wouldn’t mind a straight elevator too.
Thanks for all those magical moments, especially with the concrete.
    👍👍👍👍

Absolutely loved the earlier roof construction. Something bothers me about the spiral staircase but don’t quite know what. I have done similar things over my 77 yrs and they stood the test of time but they “felt right”....so I’m 15mins into this...let’s see...if you uncover a law or principle of physics you are fighting.....🙏🏾

@52:34 to help the esthetics of that 4x4 post just hanging there and looking unfinished, you could take a piece of that rebar and weld some plate steel sqares to them so that you could mount it vertically to one of the treads below. It would make a nice hand rail and finish the corner off nice like it was intentional.

Thank you for the feedback! We are actually working on some handrails this week with some rebar and steel plates to mount to the stair treads so looks like we are on the same page! Thanks for watching!

In the UK you have to have a Minimum Inner Going 120mm, Minimum Centre Going 145mm and a Maximum Outer Going 350mm on a sprial stair case.

nice staircase:) Keyboard warrior from Germany here: I know that impact drives are a way bigger thing in america than in europe, but when using longer screws the proper tool would be a normal (powerful) driver. The screws are not going in at 39:47 because of all the torsion (which isn´t a problem, when applying constant torque). You did the obvious thing and went for the next bigger impact, problem is that all the energy has to go somewhere and you are at risk damaging the screws, have them break.

Thank you for the feedback! That makes sense, we will have to pull out our corded drill next time and give that a try, thanks for watching!
