    Justin, you may think its funny when the horse freaks out when touching the electric fence but you wont be laughing when you get the vet bill. Rather use a wooden 3 board fence or provide a bigger turnout. Panicked horses = colic. or deep cuts. It also changes his personality. And that could cause him to spook more which leads to people getting hurt. I don't mean to be insensitive to you but Its really kind of ignorant when you laughed. You just created a potential problem for your farm and safety.. Never use fear to teach a horse

    Watching the Rhodes family deal with horses breaks my heart. Please please find an appropriate and safe boarding stable for them! I seriously doubt that you listened to any educational podcasts on equine care before you bought them? Justin , do the right thing.

    Any other horse people just like totally disagreeing with everything they doing? like no hate to Lily at all shes young I take it she hasnt been taught a lot, like those horses need a bigger paddock with grass as they need to graze throughout the day, also Peaches to me either has no muscle in his hindquarters or is getting skinny, That fencing when I watched Blaze roll he could so easy just roll onto his other side get caught then you will end up with Lily crying cause her horse is injured and maybe have to be put down cause of the damage Blaze could do to himself by getting shocked while tangled in that fence. Also Lily I see you put one pile of hay out for both those horses maybe next time put it into 3-4 small piles around the paddock so then Peaches cant guard the pile and not let Blaze eat.
    and your fence brand does do horse fencing I know you only want to use one type of fencing for all the animals but net type fencing for horses is like a death sentence if they get tangled into it.
    And I just want to like add us horse people arent like bullying or say hating we just want to educate cause of how much we see inexperience horse owners do stuff that is a safety hazard and we just want to help out so you dont end up loosing your horses to something like getting tangled in that net fencing or getting colic from eating the woodchips as there is no food in that paddock run for them.

      Good advice. It’s not just educating the Rhodes about horses but also that other people follow their example which is dangerous for the animals.

    Austin: Much more tolerable music, thank you. Lay off the Zoomer humor and the clips. Not entertaining.
    Justin: Do you want to come out one morning to a maimed horse, or worse? Do you want to explain to your daughter why your constant half assing everything and cutting every wrong corner was the cause?
    This isn't wholesome farm content anymore. It's like watching a train wreck in 10 minute intervals, and you can't look away from the disaster these people's lives have become.

    This is no way to keep horses I am afraid. They need a paddock, as everyone says, that has safe fencing. It is not great to keep the poor animals in a small enclosure and give them electric shocks to keep them contained. Also all that noise in front of them is not going to keep them calm. You need paddock rails around a paddock. No one keeps horses like this I am afraid. You need approx 1 - 1.5 acres per horse. Not a pocket handkerchief bit of dirt with unsafe fencing. Keeping horses is an art - and it takes research.

      Our horse had an enough land but got out for fun. Down the road: enough land and high fences. They still got out. Sometimes horses just don't want to stay in a fence. All we had was a weak eletric wire and they stayed in most of the time. Do horses need real fences yes: space; yes. They will get out if they want to though

    That video made me so sad seeing the horses in such a small space on a hot wire "fence" . They need a couple of acres to run and have space from one another...pleeeeez!

    Has anyone stopped to think that the pony may be jumping out of the fence because the palomino is dominant and is kicking and pushing him around but there isn't enough room for him to get away? Now that he can't move because he is afraid of the fence but it isn't large enough for him to safely navigate, where is he supposed to go when the palomino gets after him?

    Yep, horses need some strand lines not the netted portable fencing. A bigger paddock wouldn't hurt or letting them take turns outside solo and turn outs to the bigger field together. But first and foremost, get that netted fencing out of there. That is not even good for short term horse fencing...

      Paddock fencing is not too difficult to put up. That;s what horse owners use.

      @@lauraharmour lots of good options for temporary, semi permanent, and permanent fencing for horses.
      Strands are just so easy and cheap for that size of an area, there is no real excuse not to swap it out until a better more long term solution can be had. Whatever it takes to get those netted electric fences out of there ASAP.

    I know everybody is learning about horses and it's natural to yell out when you want them not to do something but with a horse it will s**** them and they will bolt and at times they've been known to break their neck or a leg and that small pen Was a good example for that But I understand everybody means well and loves all these animals we see that effort with you every day😊

      Don't worry about it they are planning to sell the ponies anyway.
      Nothing stays in that family for too long they either sell it or kill and eat it.
      You think this is bad you should try going over to Fit Farmer UA-cam channel.
      His so-called farm is a hot mess junkyard I would be calling the authorities on his family
      Animals should not be like that has about 75 + chickens in small chicken tractors.
      And he admitted in one of his videos the chickens are overcrowded.
      These people are Animal Horder the property is a junkyard, animals are not cared for overcrowded. They are way over their head
      Hundreds of chickens hundreds of ducks
      Unsanitary conditions. One cow,and other animals I lost count. Seriously Animal Control needs to come out to these UA-camrs homestead and farm.
      You also noticed that the kids are just slaves
      and work . What happened to homeschooling ? Sitting at a kitchen table or living room and reading a book and studying.
      This is definitely not parenting and this is why the world is so messed up . Parents don't know how to parent their children anymore and let them do whatever they want

    Not that they EVER look at comments, but for crying out loud at least invest in proper horse fencing!!!!
    North Carolina law states that a MININUM of 1 acre is required per two horses.
    They will inevitably find out why that law is in place soon. And then Lily's heart will be broken when one or both of her horses obtain tragic injuries because of their inadequate habitat.

      A bit dramatic... they are learning.
      They have people with experience advising them. The small paddock is not the only land they have access to for the horses.
      Take a deep breath... lol

      @DanSleeAquariums I can be dramatic, but this is the only enclosure they are offering them throughout the cold months. Once they're put back on pasture, they will still be penned using the premier 1 livestock fencing, which is in no way appropriate for horses.
      And at no point is it safe to pen two horses in such a small space because there isn't adequate space for them to evade one another safely and without running into the hot fencing.
      I'm fully aware they have multiple coaches helping them, but that does not negate their poor choices in enclosures for their horses. There is no way to know what advice they are getting, be it good or bad advice, or if they are listening to it .
      Mostly I'm frustrated because they show this to their million plus subscribers on a platform they have used as educational. This is teaching very poor husbandry and there isn't a good reason for it.

    I would definitely heed the warnings on fencing… it’ll only be a matter of time before someone gets pushed into the netting and getting wrapped up in that could easily be a death sentence. All it takes is the net to cut in the right place and it could be something the vet won’t be able to fix. 😢

    One more horse tip-of-the-day: The spring grass is rich and horses/ponies can get sick from it -colic and laminitis, etc. You have to limit it and control it. The thumb nail of Peaches laying down reminded me of it. CONGRATULATIONS Lily on your successful horseshow!!! So great! Did the show clothes I sent fit???

    I think it would be awesome if you had a senior farmer day. Go and get a few seniors from assisted living and let them come work your farm for one day a month. ( I know...the insurance) but if I were a senior? Which I am. I'd sure volunteer. That's something that would be so awesome for lonely bored seniors.❤

    I’m so frustrated yet I can’t stop watching…
    They don’t read comments so I’m going to get it off my chest…
    - Poor household management (just tell her to get off the internet & start using what you have, & stop hounding us; someone always sick),
    - Poor animal management (get some proper fences & learn animal husbandry)
    - poor parenting (stop coddling some while being passive aggressive with others & encouraging sibling competition)
    Ok, I know some of you will comment that I’m too critical & to just stop watching…
    I will as soon as I can…
    But I keep reminding myself that he’s a UA-cam guy, not a farmer, and I just keep tuning in.
    I should stop before someone gets hurt, because this is not the way a family farm really should work.

      @@queenbee3647 apparently UA-cam and advertisers will pay a LOT for every eye that watches. We pay with our time, which is obviously a hot commodity. We are literally the customers to their products. We don’t have to be better than them at anything. We also are allowed to criticise a self proclaimed homesteading guru if he’s actually a really chaotic and lax farmer.

    I really hope the horses have more space than that...because that is absolutely not ok. They need acres to run around on. That tiny, muddy pen and their stalls is not living. Also that fencing is asking for them to get caught in it and die. I don't know who educated you on caring for horses but I'm sorry you are doing a terrible job and I feel so bad for those horses.

    Hum over the years its been hard to watch some of your animals get treated in a aloof way ! Like raw meat and nit knowing about don't let the horse eat much fresh grass and just parasites and stuff ! Plus your alwaysvselling stuff. So it feels you have list your way andvyour family is not healthy

    So sad to see the confined space and the hot wire fencing. Horses need much much more room to gallop and stay healthy. It's a miracle the brown horse didn't seriously hurt himself in that hot wire fencing when shocked in that tiny space you have for both horses. Please learn from your mistakes in caring for these beautiful animals you have taken into your charge. God bless

    Watching how rapid the progress is towards the new pasture for the cattle and sheep made me think of all the lovely jump poles that you're sawing up and burning. These will be invaluable for Lily when she starts to school the ponies on groundwork - trotting poles and combinations of small fences to work over as grids. They're all there available right now for free as you're clearing the land. A bit of wood preserver on the rustic poles will keep them good for some years if stored under cover and off the ground when not in use. Remove the bark and paint them for show-jumping fences. Perhaps something that Jonah and Josiah might like to tackle for Lily's next birthday present - cavaletti, poles and a rack to keep them in, maybe even some jump wings? Expensive to buy but well worth making.❤

    I have worried for Lily's safety with the horses and their caresince the beginning. She rides a very well trained horse for shows, but that doesn't mean she can handle other horses.

    Justin, a good rule of thumb is that you should have 1 acre per horse for their grazing. There is no room for 1 horse much less 2. They can’t run. Hugs❤

    I just want to add that having your kids "boss" you around is not always a good thing. I've seen kids actually boss their parents in public, demanding they do what they want. As a way to clarify, having your kids "instruct" their parents on something the parent's don't normally do, is definitely ok. It's funny how one word can strike a chord with people. That word, boss, just hit me hard, due to the fact that I've seen too many kids disrespect their parents, by bossing them as if they owned them. Sad to see.
    But in your case, seeing your kids take control of their responsibilities, is quite refreshing! They seem well adjusted, and can tackle any project with some pretty good knowledge of what they have learned through the years on the farm.

      I was just going to say the same thing. I think Justin actually meant "instruct" but used the word "boss" which I agree that children should not "boss" their parents around. I agree with Justin's comment on making your children feel trustworthy. That part was great!

    Way too small a paddock for those horses. Also could be tragic if either of those horses gets entangled in that fencing while trying to escape a kick from the other.

    I wish I could do homestead, I am just too old to start. But I do have so far 3 raised gardens in my backyard. Every year I am adding a new plan. This year will be my second attempt for sweet corn and I am trying to grow Athena Cantaloupes.

    You people begging him to get Lily a horse have no right to complain about how they're caring for the horses. Yall legit shamed Justin into getting one, saying he was a bad father if he didn't. Now yall do nothing but complain about how little space they have, or how unprepared they are. Shame on all of you. Justin gave Lily (and you crazy women living through Lily) her horses, now you sit back and let him care for them the best they can. None of you have any ground to stand on, you begged for this situation, you should have known how it was going to go. If these horses end up being sold or going to slaughter, it's on all of you.

      Actually it's not. It was his decision to get her a horse, nobody else's. Trying to shift blame on his viewers is just childish. He is a grown man who can make his own decisions and if he deicded to get his daughter a horse he should have made sure he could properly care for it. There is nobody else to blame but himself and he deserves all the criticism for imporperly caring for his animals.

      I don’t remember anyone forcing him to buy sheep or cows but he can hardly take care of them properly either. Seems to be a pattern here so don’t blame viewers for wanting Lily to have special things like her brothers get.

    Poor Mr brown. It's hard to be the “middle” kid. He still wants to play with the “babies” toys. And he didn't have all that much of a birthday haul last round. He's a good boy ❤

    Justin which series Water right hose do you have. I accidentally ordered the 400 series which apparently is 7/16. I thought I was getting 5/8. I’m wandering if that diameter will work for me.

    That’s so sweet to help Lily 🥰 Do you and Rebecca use nettle? It’s awesome for fighting stuff off, including allergies. Proud of her for working when she didn’t feel good🙌 and those horses will be just fine. That fence is no different from the two line electric we used for years with fourteen horses. They’ll learn to give it plenty of space. And taking time to do what’s important to you is priority. Your homestead info is right on as well. I’ll show all the changes we made to ours shortly.🙌 We’re at retirement age and had to start over😅

Yay, Blaze is trained to the fence now. Nice smoked ham. That was great when Rebekah shredded it with the hand mixer. Those buns looked incredible. The family looked very happy with the meal.     I know u r just out of winter and spring calfing while the cows look ok, we used to feed cattle over the winter with “grains” it was a by product of whiskey distillery which could be compacted., saving on storage space. Also we used stale bread beet pulp with molasses, it gave cattle better condition. On the dairy herd mostly cross freshens in Ireland it’s about 40% a2a2 but selective breeding these days is reducing that as Holstein and milk production volumes are the norm. Thanks for all the info nd a foods I love ?? Lamb and pork kidneys with mushrooms and onion. Try it. Maybe ur have but I may have missed it thanks to you and family and look after the body
