It’s horrible that the one family member fucked the whole family. Schedrick lived in New Jersey and all he wanted was the money! Shame on him and I pray it comes/came back on him. It’s evident he didn’t give a damn about his family and Ancestors! The two family members being jailed for 8 years for so called trespassing was nothing but another form of slavery and control! There was a lot of important issues left out of this documentary and actually created more questions 😢

Everything you typed is accurate! I think the film failed to show how a greedy family member put them in that position and the director and some of the family made it 100% racial.

@@ZythebadkidYes! I just watched the documentary last night and have been wishing I'd win the lottery and find a way to help them secure their property once and for all. It reminds me of the woman in South Carolina who is being thrown off her family's land by a developer. I'm in Virginia, in the DC area, and we've spent many summers in North Carolina. I'd considered moving to Beaufort, but after learning in this film that it's a historically black town that was whitewashed for the financial profit of white developers by increasing property taxes on families to force them to sell, I've changed my mind. I am disgusted that this persists in 2023.

Yes they can. The state had no bond to keep them in jail. This would be a very easy win specially since the story of what happened air on Netflix

It's shame all those shady lawyers took advantage as well. Thecity ,state need to be sued and that first lawyer for malpractice. This was egregious what this brother did to his family

Someone should take their case pro bono and sue the state for both trying to take their land and false imprisonment! America should pay all who they have rape stolen from and all the free labor this country was built from they should pay! So sad and painful to watch!

I am embarrassed to admit how shocked I was while watching this film that this is happening right here in 2023. That Beaufort was completely built as a white retirement town by raising taxes to force out longstanding black families is appalling.

This is a fight we ALL should get behind... no matter what color your skin is. I'm completely sickened, enraged and I want answers! How can we let this happen? I don't know what the general public can do but PLEASE tell us! I know more than one who would be outraged and willing to take up this fight. This can and DOES happen to a lot of the working poor.

I wish they published the lawyer who took 5K to 'read' the documents and return the money if she couldnt help. She returned 100 dollars and said she couldnt help and I am raging.

Everything should have been invalid when it was determined that the deed was obtained fraudulently, no? I wish Melvin and Licurtis had staked their claim. Well I guess Melvin did when he had his business and licenses documented with the land. And 8 years in jail. My God on today.

It’s was corruption on the county and judge’s part someone was promised money. I’d sue the county the judge and the company who claimed they owned the land

If this documentary can win some big show biz awards it will punish Carteret County and make the land worthless to any real estate investors.

There’s really no telling, outside of being willing to do some deeper research, to find out who all helped fund this project to make it a documentary but I’m sure there were a few major donors. Report back if you find out please 😊🙃
