    Thank you Angela - I am basting a large quarter log cabin and still wasn't sure what/how to quilt it. You gave me some great ideas. I MQ on a DSM, and have made and quilted more than 200 quilts on this very same machine. Love MQ'ing.

    Angela, your love for your craft and your willingness---and ability-to share with others simply shines through your videos. Can't say ty enough!!!! Wanted to remind everyone of a marking tool we all used back in our home EC days---a sliver of bar soap. No worries that it won't wash out! And using a Hera marker or it's equivalent, the wrong side of a butter knife, is also great for dot to dot quilting. Used a Hera marker to create 12 in lines for a secondary design in a quilt this winter and was very pleased with the results. I'm a newbie quilter and am experimenting with everything to see what works for me. The hardest thing is to swallow your fear but we need to simply go for it!!

    I love your shirt! Just watching your videos has taught me so much! Thank you. I would have done the feather challenge if I was more advanced. I know that this is not the video that was taught but I naturally took to your flower meander. That gave me so much encouragement that I am totally hooked! Cheers and yes wine does help when it comes to relaxing to make curves more smooth LOL

    I just have to say your examples are absolutely inspiring! I'm just starting to FMQ and I'm not so great at smooth or consistently placed curves. Looking forward to trying Dot technique with straight lines and a ruler. Especially excited to see how using 1 pattern with few lines and another pattern with lots of lines can separate 2 areas of the same color. Not sure if I explained that well but it's clear to me that my quilting is about to get even more exciting!

    I am just beginning to dabble in machine quilting. What I struggle with is transitioning from one place to another. It would have been extremely helpful if you had marked the dots, both starting and ending, on each example that you pictured. And then walked through where to start, where it ended and then how you moved to the next space. Thank you for your videos, they are very inspiring!

    If you have one big colorful quilt top pattern , where there is no background color, but you have used 10 or 12 different solids, maybe with some texture in the print, spanning all the colors of the rainbow, how do you choose a thread color. I really like how you have used the straight line dot to dot to make the diamond affect, and think it would work well with quilting this project.

    Hi Angela, I love your rulers, I think I have all of them, 12. I've bought them mostly from Amazon, often my children have gotten them for me for Christmas,
    birthdays, etc. Since I've already purchased them, I have the pdf for six but I would like to get the pdfs for: Sid, Slim, Shorty, Taj, Archie and Squiggy.
    I'm having difficulty getting to some of them. TY. Mary

    I have a question from you or others in this group about FMQ designs. I have been quilting for years using a walking foot & straight lines. I can Dot to Dot. Because I'm not artistic, tracing & drawing is not in my comfort zone. Other then PRACTICING, Practicing, practicing, is there anything else you can recommend. Before I go to sleep, I use my hands to practice Elongated Swirl, Paisley Swirl, Plume Feather, & Flower Meander. Thanks for listening

    • @kabjhill
      @kabjhill 3 роки тому

      Yes, keep drawing or "going through the motions" of the designs each day, especially when you can't be at your machine. If it is any encouragement, it took a year of practice drawing/quilting until I felt confident with feathers. ( Shorter time for other patterns!!)
      Tip: when watching tutorials, I predict where I think the instructors are going as they quilt. This helps me focus on the designs, how they are created, and I progress quickly. Keep it up, it will click soon!

    Angela I heard you say you like your Frixon Pens for marking. I do too, but there is a downside to them. You iron them away, but they are still very faintly there, and if the quilt get's cold, ie if you take it in the car on a winter day, or to a cottage that is cold, I am told the lines reappear. Have you had any of these problems?

    • @susanmei9980
      @susanmei9980 3 роки тому +1

      I tested this on a 3 scraps. Marked on all. Washed one w/o ironing in cool water with mild dish soap; then air dried it. The other two I ironed “away.” Then I washed one as above and the other I didn’t; put all three in the freezer. The one that I washed without ironing came out the best. Second place was the ironed and washed. The ironed only came back the strongest.
      I recommend everyone do this test on your own fabrics BEFORE MARKING (on scraps, I mean) ; then decide. 😊🌷 Hope this helps!

      Quilt it how you want. These ideas are wonderful, and a place to start. What you do will be wonderful. Just pay attention to your batting. Some says quilting needs to be within 4 inches. Some 10 inches. Pick the right batting for your project. Looser quilting designs makes for softer quilts.
