      Really nice build Jay! Love the cabinets...and I'm with you, so many builds fill the entire back with the bed. I like your approach and am planning something similar. I'm shorter, so I'm gonna put the bed in the back and I will sleep at an angle... so it will only take of 40 in. or so of floor space. And then the rest will be open, sort of. I like your pull out table with 7 gal water below.
      The only thing I would like to know more about is how do you cook? Do you do that all outside under the awning? I am thinking of taking the passenger seat out too. Mine's a Caravan with stow n go seats, so taking out the back seat opens up lots of storage space below floor level.
      One question, how big is the white propane tank behind the driver's seat pls? Gracias! Gonna checkout your site and sms. :)

    It’s wonderful. I do find as I get older being able to stand up in a van is desirable. If you get stuck inside for 2 days due to bad weather it’d be nice to be able to stand up to prepare food etc.

      I just discovered, in case you don't know, you can actually put a high top on a minivan! I'm 67 and a female with a pretty bad back so standing up would be so incredible!

    WOW, I really like he used the vents as lights! That is the first for me to see anyone do that. using the seatbelt holes with lights instead and hacking into the wiring for widows and so forth. Awesome stuff. I would totally buy this van.

    I love seeing all the different ways people build/no-build their cars into campers. I have no desire to do this full time, but would love to do something like this for roadtrips!
    The interesting thing about decluttering/downsizing is that each round makes it easier to remove more, even sentimental items. You realize which items are truly valuable to you and reach a level you are happy and comfortable with.

  • @mjremy2605
    @mjremy2605 Рік тому

    Clever mini van build, nice details and the bed looks comfortable. I like the light hacks where the seat belt used to be - that is very nice! Nice gas mileage on this rig. Toyota Sienna gets 36 mpg, astonishing fuel efficiency. While Honda's are a class act, Toyota is a bigger company with cheaper price tags and great variety. The Sienna gas mileage is the same as my tiny Toyota Yaris stick shift. You can't beat Japanese cars for quality and gas efficiency.
    Some feedback:
    1. Please do not add music to any van tour. It is loud and annoying. Just pan without the music, much better.
    2. Try to show details while the man is talking. Don't fixate camera on him the whole time. 95% van, 5% man ratio is best.
    3. Don't talk. Let the guest talk. Don't interrupt, ask questions, and give your opinions. If you are behind the camera, you are never heard. This is the best way to let the guest really delve into his build, philosophy and topics without a break in his chain of thoughts. Later you edit out the parts that are rambling and tighten it up. You will find this makes for a smooth video.
    4. You did not show us much about the build. Open the back door, roll out the awning and mini screen room, tell us about the roof rack, show us the bed build, so many details left out. All this could have been done while he was talking, however, you fixed the camera on the MAN not the VAN. It should always be the other way around. Show the VAN not the MAN. We don't need to see him on screen so much (although he is very good looking) but to hear his mind and thoughts, while we look at the van build details. If you can achieve this happy mix, your videos will rise in quality. Don't overlook details. They are key. We are all van builders here. We want to know how he built this out. Please keep the focus on the van.

    I had 1 of these Honda vans,very reliable,I easily put 100,000 miles on it in the 6 yrs I owned it,during that time the only major repair that needed 2b done is replacing a faulty radiator....however,the weak area of these vans are the transmissions,apparently Honda had a lot of issues with these transmissions enough that they did a recall on it,the 1 I owned had a transmission issue all 6 yrs that I owned it,it never affected the overall reliability of the van,I just learned to pull over put the van from drive into park&back into drive&then it ran fine,I wouldn't hesitate to buy another 1...very,very reliable,the v6 has plenty of power&really good milage,my van never left me stranded in the 6 yrs I owned it&again,I put 100,000 miles on it on top of the 130,000 that was on it by the previous owner who bought it new,you made a good choice getting 1 of these for your adventures.

    Oops I cut myself off before I was done! I'm so impressed with all the work that you have put in to your camper van and home! I have to do mine a bit at a time as I am 67 and your social security is not exactly an exciting income. But, when I had tank my camper van I lived very comfortably and I also have a UA-cam channel. I'm so happy that I found your video and I'm going to share it with some people who are pretty skeptical 😂

I have a 2003 Honda Odyssey that I want to convert but mine will be much less fancy than yours I do not know how to do all that stuff. It will be very simple I'm pretty much an urban camper as it would be my home so I really don't need a lot of kitchen stuff. I've not seen any mention from anyone as to what black material to use for curtains..... here's a tip from an retired advertising photographer.... when I needed an absolute black background there was only one choice.... Black Velvet.... it eats light. A cop can shine a flashlight at black velvet and it will not reflect anything... again... it eats light. Of course you want the velvet side to be facing the outside. Look at the video again and when he talks about his black curtains you will notice light is reflecting off of the curtains and has highlights that show up as gray. You don't want that. With material such as that, the cops will know that you are in there. If they shine that flashlight into the velvet they will see black and nothing else. Another mistake to avoid is that you want those curtains to hug the ceiling. You have to make the space for your rod or rope or whatever your using to hold it close to the ceiling. Don't place that fold at the top. Leave about 3" above the fold for material to fill in the cap between the top of the material and the ceiling.

    • @Debrajoy
      @Debrajoy 2 роки тому

      That is a very great chip for me about the velvet. And that's exactly what I did on my curtains, was to create a tall ruffle at the top. Worked great with attention rod. I lived in my camper van for two and a half years and never had any problems being an urban camper, even with my camper van! So sorry I sold him!

Cost $2G’s. It better. Would love love to see a video on how to hack the windows as you have done. One of my early gripes since I do not plan on another roof fan. Appreciate you keeping it real. $10K is realistic for a build. Tire of the “$100 van build!” Lol.

      @@DaveOTG Hey Dave. Yes sienna mv. I have most of the floor covered with padded carpet. We are backpackers so don't need much. Allows us to set up our camping sleep system that we have with us anyway since we do a lot of week long backpacking trips while out in the van. gives us enough floor space to have a mini room inside to hang in or sleep. Also stow two mountain bikes when the van is parked at the trail head for extended stays. Normal mode they are on the bike rack on the back. Keeps the setup more stealth when we are not in the van for days.

    1. Where do you park your vehicle at night in order to sleep?
    2. What do you do with your free time? Where do you go if weather is bad?
    3. Isn't it expensive living out of vehicle? Also, having to move constantly will wear you out physically and mentally. Also, if moving ago, the cost of gas.
    4. What is a typical day like for someone living full time in van?

    Wow. It's perfect! I sure wish we knew each other. I would ask you how much you would charge me to do a build out for me. This has been a dream of mine for years.

    Few questions: Do you have a video of you installing your flooring? Are you able to use the trunk space in your build?
