    Hey, I'm super appreciative of these videos. I'm gonna watch all of them all day and until I complete the EMT course. I'm the only one in that class with no prior medical training or aspirations. Taking my NREMT final exam this sat.
    The correct order for strapping the pt is;
    Boy - Bottom
    My - Middle
    Leg - the "Legs"
    Cramps - Chest (take a deep breath then snug it)
    Hurts - the Head last.
    Transfer the pt to the long backboard & then releasing the leg straps. Otherwise, the pt legs will be pointing upwards. And then checking PMS (Pulse, Motor & Sensory). PMS should be done before & at the end as you just watched.
    Someone already mentioned it but not entirely. Before putting on a C-collar, check for DCAPBTLS, step-off (missing/offset cervical vertebrae), JVD & trachea deviation. Same goes with the pt entire back (DCAPBTLS, ecchymosis &/or bleeding) before placing the pt on the KED &/or the backboard. Otherwise, you will have to unstrap the whole thing in the ambulance in order to log roll & to reassess the pt back.

      +EMR11353 protocols are different in each state & county. How stupid is this? In California, San Diego county, instead of making it mandatory it is NOT required to have an AED in an BLS ambulance?!? I've figured this out on my ride-along & confirmed it with EMT director of the school. He too thinks it's ridiculous.

    • @EMR11353
      @EMR11353 8 років тому +1

      +EMR11353 I know RIGHT!!! So stupid. The whole EMS system is so jacked up. Every state & county should be on the same page. I'm just thinking during my ride-along, worst case scenario, a patient goes into full cardiac arrest without having an AED.

      I'm an EMT in CA, and it is My Baby Looks Hot Tonight, or Money Buys Lots of Hot Toys. Middle strap, Bottom strap, Legs, Head, then Top strap. And our straps are green, yellow, red. This is done so the patient can breath comfortably until the last moment when transferred to the back board.
      Also, they didn't check CMS immediately after applying the KED, which we do.

  • @jakeporch4236
    @jakeporch4236 6 років тому +9

    Addressing various comments here for any viewers in 2018...
    - The order of the straps does not matter for NREMT. I don't know about specific states. All that matters for NREMT is that you pad and secure the head AFTER the torso is "appropriately secured." It is up to the judgment of the examiner how many straps constitute "appropriately secured."
    - This skill is still included in the NREMT psychomotor exam, but is not necessarily given. It is one of four skills that you must pick at random: long bone immobilization, joint immobilization, spine board (seated patient), and bleeding control/shock management. You pick and perform one of those skills. Maybe some test centers alter their choices knowing that nobody could prove they did, but it's more likely that if nobody you know got this skill, luck and statistics were just on your side 😁
    This info is from the NREMT examination users guide posted on nremt.org as of July 9, 2018

    • @Emtprep
      @Emtprep  9 років тому +3

      Uyen Tang Hey Uyen, unless there are large void spaces padding the area of the legs that the straps hold to would not be recommended. The KED isn't meant to be comfortable it's meant to perform a vital function which is spinal immobilization in the seated patient. If you have any other questions we'd love to hear them! Thanks!

But for NREMT it is acceptable to do bsi and scene safety and then jump right into the scenario.
