Lived in NY for years. It was always the owner/residents responsibility to make sure sidewalks were shoveled and fire hydrants cleared. The only exception was sidewalks around parks or other government property. I can still remember getting up early because the sidewalks had to be clear by 10am.

There is no excuse, in Staten Island there are certain homes that have not attempted to shovel and these are corner homes that have front and side to cleanup and they don't I hope they know if someone slips and gets very hurt they will own your home , bus stops also not cleared for riders. what the hell is going on? As for MTA stations that are situated on city parks this should have been brought up long ago. The understanding is city parks are responsible.

Fort Hamilton station D line lazy mta didn't shovel the rear entrance just 20ft of ice by the stairs so if someone slips and falls they can sue and it'll be on camera too
Welcome to life in upstate. They plow the snow from the streets into the sidewalks and expect homeowners to shovel it. Nobody does it. 3-4 feet of snow where you're supposed to walk and you'll get bitched at or hit by a car if you walk in the street. The government just needs to do it
Clearing snow is part of the responsibility of being a homeowner in the North East. If everyone chips in we can be fine, but with your attitude of let the government do it is why nothing will get done. If you want the government to do it then I hope your ready for higher taxes to pay for all of this snow removal

Same thing with litter on the sidewalk, "they have to keep it up!" "City needs to clean it up" guess what genius, you are the city!!!
this happens every winter, not just in NYC but all cities. there is so much talk about progress and technology, sending a Tesla car to outer space, green energy. blah blah, but we still have the same low level issues that nobody comes up with better solutions for. But nobody cares about the older woman with the artificial hip replacement because it doesn't affect them directly... that has to be scary walking along and so worried that next step can be really injured permanently.
They never do or takes days for them to clean around parks, train stations & bus stops it as always been that way. They are quick to hand out others tickets for not cleaning whether it’s snow or trash.

How about NYC be a real city and plow all the sidewalks? Can you imagine if they required each building to plow its own lane of traffic too? It’s ridiculous that a major city doesn’t organize this
I thought the city is suppose to clean the sidewalks since sidewalks are public property. I guess the city of New York is trying to save money and pass the snow clearing responsibilities to the store owners.
But isn't that what you should expect guys I know it's crazy but there is something called ice and snow if you want to go somewhere just drive if you are not able to walk on it or just stay home if you didn't prepare for it and also isn't the sidewalks belong to the city and businesses not the home owners sidewalks
