What Idan Morim says at the end is arguably the most important--precision in rhythm also means that you know where you are in the measure. Drummers and percussionists have the advantage--as many learn to hear how each part of the measure sounds--just like Rotem talks about hearing notes of a scale against a chord or a drone. The downbeat of the measure is crucial to hear and embed in your body. Good rhythm, pulse, and time feel separate the great musician from the fumbling amateur.
That raises the question--if rhythm is so important to all music (from free-jazz to hip hop), then why is rhythm often downplayed or completely ignored altogether in music education? For instance, what would jazz ed look like if we prioritized the teaching of rhythm and made everything else--theory included--secondary?

That's super helpful ! I'm into guitar solos, and sometimes find myself forgetting to do full songs and more
t's important to be mindful that rhythm is a big building block in music rather than just soloing an a minor minor pentatonic scale up and down 6 strings or 7 strings. I am learning lots of things ! The first solo was really pretty. Thank you both so much ! :

I'm still pissed that in 2024 Mike Longo's pedagogy on exactly this is not widespread and being incorporated by such respected youtube musicians as you @Rotem Sivan

I'm not familiar with his work. What book are you referring to?

@@RotemSivanGuitar he's got a series of 4 DVD's called" the rhythmic nature of jazz" which is just dynamite. He's got a book that compliments those, more aimed towards rhythmic reading called "how to sight jazz and others syncopated type rhythms". Sorry for the rude comment, but I see so much material about jazz improvisation, groove and rhythm on channels like yourself, Adam Neely, and Rick Beato that tackle some of these topics in what I find an old fashioned or somewhat primitive view when the man got all that magic right down to a science...
