Dave Thomas got his start working for KFC. He was the guy who came up with the iconic bucket and the Spinning bucket sign and the legendary Red and White color scheme. KFC management screwed him over on a stock deal so he left and started Wendy's. Dave was a genius at solving problems. What do you do with all the fresh beef you did not use that day for hamburgers? you cannot freeze it and use it the next day for Hamburgers, but you can freeze it and use it in chili. Thus Wendy's Chili was created. Dave also put Wendy's in inner city locations that had been abandoned by other franchises and hiring a lot of teenagers in those areas looking for work.

It was the fact that the meat would overlap the bun. Like, the beef patty would be visible, outside of the bun, around the edges. That’s WITHOUT taking the sandwich apart! Nowadays, they are just like everybody else. “Where’s the beef?”
The sad thing is, around here, 5 Guys is now just a couple bucks more expensive than Wendy's for a leagues-better burger. I'll just go there from now on. 😅
5 Guys hasn't disappointed me yet. I know going in that it's not gonna be cheap, so that takes away some of the shock. Getchu a double bacon cheeseburger with A1, mayo, jalapenos, onions, lettuce and tomato and never look back! Lol
They were the only fast food survivor because Pizza Hut dominated the food wars and became the only up-scale restaurant left. Taco Bell was left to fill the gap.

Popeye's strategy is to find the cheapest property available and hire local. Frequently this results in their rather aggressive reputation. Other times you get like the one near where I used to work that was virtually impossible to get into and out of in a car. I saw people giving up, parking on the street, and walking over.

Iike most fast food. The occasional Big Mac or Arby's sandwich, or even a Dave's Double, add bacon, extra mayo and onions. But when it got to the Pont where the drive thru got to be MORE expensive than a sit down meal, I pretty much stopped eating that stuff. Stated keeping ground chuck in my fridge, frozen chicken tenders in the freezer, etc. Cheaper and I just have to make sure my errands are done be home by time to cook lunch.
Whataburger ain't lying about that wait. I waited in the drive thru for a good hour, in the sun, and couldn't leave because of the brick partition on the other side. Once you're in their drive thru, you're IN their drive thru!

There is a Taco Bell near me with a similar set up. Once you are in the drive-through line, you cannot get out. A few years ago, a car broke down in that drive-through line. Other customers had to get out of their cars and push that car through the drive-through line. There was no way to get a tow truck into the drive-through lane.
I made that type of mistake at a BK in Benton Harbor, MI at night , partitioned with a razor wire fence on once side and the building on the other. Long time wait , very sketchy BK off I 94.
All these fast food places have lost their minds when it comes to price. The only difference in price between them and a sit down restaurant a lot of the time is just the tip for the server.

I've been eating food from Aldi lately. It's cheaper and better quality I just pop it in the microwave at work and it beats spending 40 minutes in a drive thru getting parked and getting my order wrong.
The two of us were hungry and were away from home. We thought we would get a milkshake and fries as a treat. We got in line did our order and paid just under $20. This was at a Jack in the Box. Last time we will ever eat at a fast food place. We now keep snacks in the car along with canteens of water brought from home. Goodbye to fast food.
It's easy to blame Wendy's, but inflation has taken away the value of a dollar by about 30-40 cents over just a few years. Prices on their ingredients, infrastructure, and labor have to go up, so prices on our end products have to go up, that's just math. As Milton Friedman said, "The only cause of inflation is the increase in the supply of money." More dollars printed = less value per dollar. It's not companies, it's not interest rates, it's not unions. It's currency manipulation by the Federal reserve, on behalf of the monied interests who influence them. These businesses are not trying to rip us off, they are passing on the ripoff that the powers that be did to them. They can't survive at 2019 pricing.
I'd gladly pay extra if they'd only make damn sure my fries are hot from the fryer and not just above room temperature 'cause some of your fast food fries suck when served cold.

Popeye's strategy is to find the cheapest property available and hire local. Frequently this results in their rather aggressive reputation. Other times you get like the one near where I used to work that was virtually impossible to get into and out of in a car. I saw people giving up, parking on the street, and walking over.

I love that Wendy’s immediately backtracked on this idea after everyone called them out on it. Granted, fast food is nowhere near the top of the list of things to eat, and prices have gotten out of hand, but at least there are still things that we can come together and form bonds against

The dollar menu was great, and now its gone forever. I do also really miss the sunrooms. There was once a time where eating inside a fast food chain was pleasant and even where several people or coworkers would meet up for a real lunch break.

I used to tell them to send it though the flame broiler twice! Well done was actually Medium Rare. This was 25 years or more ago when we could watch them loading the flame broiler while standing in line.

I just went to Burger king yesterday and my heart stopped to see that a whopper, BY ITSELF WITH NO MEAL, was $7+ tax. I still have it in my head that $7 gets you a whole meal with more stuff.
The BKs near me, before they went bankrupt, in a low cost of living area, sold whoppers for $9 (just the sandwich). A combo was $16. There's a reason they all closed

Iike most fast food. The occasional Big Mac or Arby's sandwich, or even a Dave's Double, add bacon, extra mayo and onions.
But when it got to the Pont where the drive thru got to be MORE expensive than a sit down meal, I pretty much stopped eating that stuff.
Stated keeping ground chuck in my fridge, frozen chicken tenders in the freezer, etc.
Cheaper and I just have to make sure my errands are done be home by time to cook lunch.
Good on you; cooking at home is cheaper and far more healthy.

Whataburger ain't lying about that wait. I waited in the drive thru for a good hour, in the sun, and couldn't leave because of the brick partition on the other side. Once you're in their drive thru, you're IN their drive thru!
Yeah but you never know the adventures that awaits in the drive thru line. The later it gets the better. At 3 am you might have a fight or find your next ex wife.
There is a Taco Bell near me with a similar set up. Once you are in the drive-through line, you cannot get out.
A few years ago, a car broke down in that drive-through line. Other customers had to get out of their cars and push that car through the drive-through line. There was no way to get a tow truck into the drive-through lane.
I went to whataburger drive thru which I didn’t know entering their drive thru is a waiting game. Least my food from whataburger is fresh
I made that type of mistake at a BK in Benton Harbor, MI at night , partitioned with a razor wire fence on once side and the building on the other. Long time wait , very sketchy BK off I 94.

I haven’t been to a Wendy’s in two decades. I didn’t even know they were still a thing. Chick-fil-A is the one that should have surge pricing. Their lines are always crazy long.
I don’t eat fast food… truly, I think it’s sad how much people depend on it… how much effort does it take to make a sandwich, or grab a yogurt and fruit… I realize that sometimes fast food is the best option… but if you’re eating at these places several times a week you may want to reevaluate… there are many healthy, inexpensive and convenient options out there…

Wendys and Carl's Jr silently stopped selling hamburgers. Instead of charging extra for cheese on a burger, they now put cheese on ALL burgers and if you don't want it, you do not get a discount. Sleezy thing to do to only sell CheeseBurgers.
Considering I saw a vid the other day about a McDonald's in South Connecticut having a Big Mac meal that costs $17.59 before tax...that $30 cheeseburger line hits pretty hard.
I stopped at a truck stop last week and walked up to the Popeye's counter only to discover all of the individual meals priced $14-21. And I left.

I haven't had fast food since I drove through a McD and was charged $17 and change for a McMuffin and coffee... and they got the order wrong. Thanks, but no thanks. I now make sure I get up early enough to make my own biscuits and gravy, thank you much.
I've been eating food from Aldi lately. It's cheaper and better quality I just pop it in the microwave at work and it beats spending 40 minutes in a drive thru getting parked and getting my order wrong.
The two of us were hungry and were away from home. We thought we would get a milkshake and fries as a treat. We got in line did our order and paid just under $20. This was at a Jack in the Box. Last time we will ever eat at a fast food place. We now keep snacks in the car along with canteens of water brought from home. Goodbye to fast food.

It's easy to blame Wendy's, but inflation has taken away the value of a dollar by about 30-40 cents over just a few years. Prices on their ingredients, infrastructure, and labor have to go up, so prices on our end products have to go up, that's just math.
As Milton Friedman said, "The only cause of inflation is the increase in the supply of money." More dollars printed = less value per dollar. It's not companies, it's not interest rates, it's not unions. It's currency manipulation by the Federal reserve, on behalf of the monied interests who influence them.
These businesses are not trying to rip us off, they are passing on the ripoff that the powers that be did to them. They can't survive at 2019 pricing.
I'd gladly pay extra if they'd only make damn sure my fries are hot from the fryer and not just above room temperature 'cause some of your fast food fries suck when served cold.
