Ricky has great content and really opened my eyes to how beneficial credit card rewards programs can be. Before I found his channel last summer I was just using my debit card not knowing any better. I've taken advantage of a couple great welcome bonuses now my next big trip is going to be in business class paid for with points, and my layovers are spent in the maple leaf lounge instead of a chaotic terminal.
It's also worth noting that Aeroplan points can be redeemed with any Star Alliance airline, not just AC.

I'm watching this video because I just realized how much my no annual fee card SUCKS....
Compared to other points programs TD's is insulting...
3x the points for flights... Well I never fly so that's useless....
2x points for groceries, and fast food. I'm 140 pound, single person... So that's basically useless....
1x points for every dollar spent on reoccurring bills.... I pay my rent in cash every month because I only have a 2000 dollar limit.... So that's VERY useless....
    I've collected 1400 points in 5 months...
    That's $5.00 ...
Considering the no annual fee card is used primarily by young adults, you think they could make it valuable for young adults.
    ie
3x points on Video Games or Movies.
    2x points on electronics.
1x points on every other purchase.

I’ve been utilizing the benefits on my CIBC Aventura Infinite. 35,000 welcome bonus points (that’s a max $800 off a flight), first year free, and free going forward if you keep $6,000 in your smart plus chequing account. You get 4 free priority pass lounge visits when traveling in airports each year, they pay for your nexus pass once every 4 years too and it comes with a bunch of free insurances from mobile phones, trip cancelation, out of province medical and hotel burglary. I’m partial because I’m an advisor at CIBC but doesn’t mean it’s not an awesome card.

I think I might go with the first class infinite over the aeroplan infinite. First class infinite has more options to what you can choose. I don’t like how aeroplan is strict to air Canada. Seems like first class is the better way to go. Also first class I’ll get 145,000 points and that birthday bonus. I also have the Amex Cobalt which is unreal. Love it!

1 mil TD travel points = $5000 maximum if u redeem through expedia. So not a lot. U can't redeem more than 1-2 long haul business class flights even. Dump the First Class travel points, and get the Aeroplan instead.
To get those 1 mil TD points u would have spent $333,333 CAD already, and if u were to spend with the Aeroplan card, u would have gotten 333,333 points, which is enough to get AT LEAST 4-5 Long haul business class flights

Are you saying with aeroplan visa you spend less than TD travel visa to get the same amount of point AND those aeroplan points get you more than TD Rewards?
What I’m having a hard time figuring out is the value of the points. I’m now well versed on the accumulation of points on either card. But let’s say a trip to Hawaii 50,000 TD rewards points..would it cost the same, less or more points using aeroplan cuz that’s where a person can really determine if TD Rewards points or aeroplan are the best value

  • @chadwickadams2778
    @chadwickadams2778 11 місяців тому

Just some constructive criticism. You mention in this video giving advice to people starting out with a credit card to earn points rather than using your debit. But the cars you mention both require a individual income of $60,000 or household income of $100,000. Many people these days do not earn an income of $60,000 let alone a household income (assuming 2 people) of $100,000. I think better cards to have compared were the Platinum TD Rewards and the Platinum Aeroplan. Neither of them require a set income amount and are a better choice for people starting out with their first credit card who are also lower income.

i had 60,000 aeroplan points and it took me forever to find a flight that matched the dates and times i wanted to fly, and yes it had to be air canada. In the end 60,000 pts paid for almost all of my ticket from toronto to San Jose costa rica (5hr), i paid $147 for the ticket basically and i was in business class and free 1st checked bag. Flight price was $1,100 without points

    Hey Brandon,
Long time watcher of your channel, first time commenter.
A few years back I decided I need to switch banks as my current bank was ripping me off and with that I looked at credit cards.
I also ended up at TD due to some of the perks on their accounts, but didn't opt for a travel card due to the restrictive redemption options. The TD points is intriguing and I'll have to check them out, but I opted for the TD Cash Back Visa Infinite Card. One of the best cash back cards in my opinion (only beat by the Scotiabank version) and the cash back can be used on anything, including flights, hotels, etc. I was thinking of going to the Scotiabank version of the card, but with the TD chequing account, you can have the annual credit card fee waived saving me the $120 per year which out-weighted any difference between the cards.
Anyways, thought I'd share. I will now have to go through and compare my cash back card and these travel cards to see how close they are. Who knows I may be switching. But being able to put cashback towards anything is a nice flexibility that will be tough to give up.

Brandon if you want the aeroplan card but don't want to use the points can't you just transfer your TD rewards points from your personal account to the business account Or vice versa?
And also if you switch to the TD all inclusive banking plan the credit card and account fee is waived as long as you have $5000 in your checkings account each month. So you save the $120 a year and $30 a month for the account fee plus there are other perks like a free small safety deposit box.

I use the TD visa Infinite card and have been for almost 5 years now. As someone who doesn't travel for work or vacation all too often I wanted a card that suited my lifestyle more (instead of accruing a bunch of aero points that I would have a hard time using).
This card is great! It gives me 1% cashback on all my purchases, and 3% cashback on all gas, groceries, and monthly subscriptions. The annual fee is around $130 but is waived if you hold a minimum of $5000 in a TD chequing account.
You always hear the saying "cash is king" so for me a cashback card was the way to go.
As an example, I use this card for my purchases throughout the year, then use the cashback I've earned to pay for my entire Christmas shopping.

I use Aeroplan and have no issues flying anywhere. Air Canada is easy to fly almost anywhere you want. Although the cards I think that provide the most value are the AMEX travel credit cards that build up AMEX travel points. This is simply because those points are transferable to many other travel reward programs, including Aeroplan. A card like the AMEX Cobalt or Gold card to me provides the best value.

Travel reward points are a big waste as someone who has worked for a major bank. Just remember nothing comes free ever and there are always hidden fees we used to add in to rewards catelogues in to make them 'appear' as free money. Remember they make most of their money on swipe fees to merchants which in turn pass the cost back at you in the price. A number of countries also pass surcharges onto you as well if you travel. If you look closely at where you can fly to it's probably even better to use Skyscanner and you can usually find a much more better deal anyway and far cheaper and convient. I personally don't have credit cards anymore and just use the Koho reloadable card which you can still get a bit of cashback anyway. Remember nothing comes free in this world and if you think you are saving money using them I can assure you they make up the costs in other ways.
