4c, evora, and Cayman (excluding the flat 4 engined 718) are the best modern cars that kept some of the older driving and sports car philosophies...They are also likely the last... :(
Loved this video. After my evora was rear ended and totaled, i decided to give the 4C a try. It was also a dream car of mine so why not. I rented a 4C for a few days and loved it! Lighter on the weight, it snarls and barks , and has the looks. I hate the front of the 4C . Mostly it’s the headlights. The evora is more comfortable. I do a lot of Ny ti Tx and back driving. Often going straight through. I was never fatigued in the Evora. I love love the 4c but I think I’ll actually go back to an Evora . If i can figure out a way to keep both then i will.
Yes, this video is now 5 years old, and I really enjoyed the driving impressions regarding both cars from the non-owners. I've been watching a lot of Evora videos of late. At 6'7" I believe I can fit in one.
For your purposes I would stick with the Evora. I am a 4C owner and I couldn't imagine using it for anything but fun and to strike up conversations with admirers of which there are many. I have a few cars including a Lincoln MKS for luxury, a Fiat Abarth for practical fuel savings and back and forth to work but the Abarth is seriously fun to drive at less than 25% the cost of the 4C. I drive my 4C only when the weather is perfect with no sign of rain because it is so beautiful that I don't want to sully it up in any way. I also own both a Ford F150 and a Chevy Duramax Diesel and use them for their intended purpose of utility and the wife drives a Ford Edge. Every vehicle has a purpose as well as positive and negative aspects. Since your video is almost two years old I'm sure you have already made your decision, I hope it ended up being one that you personally are content with. Great video, thanks.
Reading between the lines, you seemed a little disappointed (maybe suprised?) at the 4C and it's rawness. As you state at the start of the vid, the 4C is more in line with the Elise, and it'd be well worth seeing if you can drive an S3 Elise SC as well to compare. Also, as you mentioned it would be a replacement for the Evora and how important the practicality aspect is, it's a shame we didn't hear more about the access, size, visibility etc compared to the Evora. Otherwise, interesting to see them both side by side.
You should try the Coupe instead of the Spider. The coupe is even more rigid and lighter. It's less noisy (it still is louder than an average popconcert) and I think it just looks better. I own one at the moment and the car is just amazing. You should remap it (making 300hp, which is a HUGH improvement because of the weigth) and place some extra shims for the lower front wishbones. This will give more camber and therefore more peace in the steering wheel.
Yep....bought a 2015 LE 4C new and nothing but love for it still. Get rid of the P Zero tires and put some Michelins on it and it will transform it. Of course some minor suspension tweaks like more negative camber also make some difference as will a ECU reflash. But overall it is an amazing car if you want a real drivers car. The only other car in it's class is an Exige Cup but sadly those aren't available in the US. The build quality of the Lotus is suspect though, and it is even more extreme as far as driver comfort and difficulty in entrance/exit than the 4C. I am 71 years old, 6' tall and 160# and it fits me perfectly. Absolutely no issues since I got it and 4C's have proven to be pretty much bullet proof.
Two great cars, but alas I would keep the Evora between these two. If the lack of sound is still bothering you, why not look at an exhaust option from the likes of 2bullar? I think the Alfa is a pretty thing, but the Evora is no munter either.... A 4C with old spice insignia, now that would look ace!
Evora has a V6 wich means more parts = bad Evora weight 400kg more then the 4c. Evora drains much more Fuel. The tires and breaks and suspension of the Evora wear out faster because of its weight.
Having more parts in an engine doesn't make it bad. If you mean reliability then that's a Toyota sourced V6 in the Evora, so it's going to be pretty bomb proof. The Alfa on the other hand....
Because I need to resell it would make no sense to change the back box, too much money. if it was not one of the 12 cars..then it would have been done!
Thanks for the review and video, can I ask what part of the world you are driving around - looks a lot like S. Bucks / Ox area which I like myself - given sunny days and dry roads :)
Great review as usual :-) Thing about the 4C is it looks gorgeous and in isolation everything is brilliant. But put it all together and somehow it just does not gel. The engine and suspension and steering just do not mesh as a whole. Its as if every dynamic aspect was designed in isolation and then just thrown together. It is so close to being great but misses in one catastrophic area and that's the car working in harmony. Its also very noisy and not in a good way and pretty uncomfortable. An Elise has it beaten in every way plus comes with a manual gearbox. As you know I tried one and it was very tempting but I bought an Exige instead as it was comfier and more of a complete package. If I had more space I would get a 4C, just to look at, but it would drive me nuts to use it as its just does not gel. I don't think its the right car for you Jack. Get a Cayman R, Exige V6 or of course an F355 :-)
Just my usual two penn'orth. In the introduction, XXVII, I heard your knees cracking and saw the pain in your eyes. You always make me smile. Stop taking the piss out of Cletus with your massively superior camera work, I'm starting to feel sorry for the guy. Is Chalkie's surname White, by any chance? The selling problem is down to the salesperson, not the car. I'm glad you'll be able to carry on droning in your videos. Your droning is one of the highlights of the channel. It's a pity you didn't get some footage of you seeing the funny side of losing an umpteen thousand pound drone in a tree. That would have made me chuckle. You have the knack of making videos that are light and airy, as opposed to the usual gut bursting stodge one finds on UA-cam. A very good video.
MrKeyboardCommando thank you sir.. and in all fairness my knees did hurt but I’d only just got out of my wheelchair. I thought I’d mange 5 yards followed by a crouch. I was wrong
Thank you!! I very recently bought a very cheap, old. Ferrari, blind at auction! Hope that proves to be at least as entertaining as this old video. Check it out! Happy holidays!
If you can live with the space, please drive an Elise SC against a 4C. I thought there may have been more comment on the 4C gearbox and width? Wouldn't a Porsche 911, maybe aircooled, even a 964 be a good replacement for the Evora?... Oh hang on!
Get the 4C and tune it using Pogea method. The motor is the same used in the Fiat 124 Rallye, 300 HP, also bullet proof, check out the 4Cs being tracked and no issues hot or cold weather. The motor is a beefed up to handle more horsepower and lighter.
I like the look if the 4c particularly in red but they have the worst looking steering wheel in the world! Great video as usual Jack and I'm pleased you saved your drone 🙂
@@dougcoffin3275 not in the market, unfortunately, but im enjoying my vx220, modded with itbs , +1 valves, cammed, light flywheel, upped comp ratio,, quick light and nimble!! And cheap!
Already had an Elise. Was looking at The 4C, a Cayman S and a modified Evora S. I bought the Evora and I HOPE I made the right decision...It’s at BOE in Kansas right now having the gremlins exorcised from its screwy brain
If you want more noise, do the exhaust. If you do a lot of driving, and you’re not sure you can live with the 4C, don’t even think about an Elise or an Exige. You’re too soft.
No way would i change the Lotus for an Alfa! That Lotus is SO much more practical, usable, way better sounding, better chassis just all round a far better car.
The Evora is OK but really the 4C is more like the Exige. But all of these type of cars are fantastic drivers cars. I have a 4C Launch Edition bought new in 2016 and no problems and they have proven to be pretty much bullet proof. The Evora is more like a daily driver GT but to me not in the same class as the other two.
Nice comparison, Get an Alfa Romeo it will make you feel younger.. It requires more of your attention therefore it will steel your heart. You could almost send a text while driving the Lotus yet with the Alfa Romeo you cannot. Thanx for posting.
I don’t think the Evora S and the 4C are comparable to be honest. The Evora, particularly in the N/A, S and 400 variants, is designed to be a 2+2 GT, not a back to basics sports car. The Elise SC would be the more obvious car to compare to the 4C. The more hard core Evoras, like the 410 Sport and the 430 are the more focused, lighter weight sports variants. However, both the 4C and Evora are nice cars, just not really comparable.
Umm.. I see what you mean but I’m not sure I agree Lotus don’t have passion. Their cars really are masterpieces in my view.. agree that the 4c has even more of a sense of occasion though
Having driven a Lotus Elise for 20 years with lots of touring and track days, I find it hard to accept your gross generalisation that Lotus doesn’t I still passion. Maybe not for you. But you obviously haven’t driven one.
Before to say alfa has passion and lotus has not, care to ever drive one. I had more than 10 alfas, still own a GTV prima serie, and an Elise S1 11S for 17 years. The Lotus is the only affordable car that leaves an Alfa driver with awe. Try one. The 120 hp Elise, or the slowest Evora and you will see.
Which is more "special". Surely that is what we are talking about here. Both these cars aren't daily drivers. So the choice must be dictated by your heart? So the winner must be...............4C!
Evora has a V6 wich means more parts = bad Evora weight 400kg more then the 4c. Evora drains much more Fuel. The tires and breaks and suspension of the Evora wear out faster because of its weight.
a Evora weights almost twice then the first elise (723kg vs 1400kg) so "heavy" is not the right word :D you can say, compared to an elise, its a sumo wrestler. even the Mercedes Benz C Class from my dad weight less then the Fatty Evora
As an alfa lover... Evora wins this. Main issue for me are the flappy things. If you want daily sportscar, you'll end up with Cayman. It's Quality but there are more interesting out there for me. How much are GT-R going for in the uk?
Lotus all day for me. Alfa have created something unique and fascinating with the 4c, but it is flawed in many ways. As a drivers car, the Lotus is a lot more progressive when it starts to let go, better steering, and just better better. The 4c is ugly too.
Evora has a V6 wich means more parts = bad Evora weight 400kg more then the 4c. Evora drains much more Fuel. The tires and breaks and suspension of the Evora wear out faster because of its weight.
I’ve only just made this decision myself ! The Evora won. I already own a 2005 Elise (sadly, currently hobbled with a broken rear toe link. PRO TIP: Replace these with the more robust aftermarket links available if you track your car at all or frequently engage in “assertive” driving ) so the 4C seemed almost like a lateral move. I really like it but I settled on a 2011 Evora with 8000 plus miles that had been fastidiously modded with various bits including a supercharger, LSD, etc. The thought being that the Evora would be my practical daily driver now 😎. I pulled that trigger on July, 4 (an important day for we vulgar colonialists 😉) and I adore it. It’s replacing my tried-and-true but aging Genesis coupe 3.8 track model .... I’m a bit impatient though because I had to send the ECU out to get reflashed by BOE because dealer inadvertently erased it ! But in a week or two, God willing, I’ll be thrashing her about the 318 curves that comprises the amazingly technical 11 mile stretch of mountain highway known as the dragon, Deals Gap in NC/ TN. So, cheers to my brilliant, Limey, boffin cousins from Hethel for my thrilling but practical toy !
I like your thinking, Devik! I've got a 2005 Elise with a BOE Rev 400 set-up (and their aircraft-tough toe links :) and, after 13 years, I find myself dreaming of an Evora, but the Elise is still so much fun. I drove a 4C and was very impressed with its style and the fairly quick shifting paddles, but not enough to think it's more than a stock Elise with a cool carbon fiber chassis. The longer wheel base of the Evora means it rides better and can handle a ton more power. But I doubt I would ever take it to the track.
Evora weight 400kg more then the 4c. Evora drains much more Fuel. The tires and breaks and suspension of the Evora wear out faster because of its weight. a Evora weights almost twice then the first elise (723kg vs 1400kg) even the Mercedes Benz C-Class from my dad weight less then the Fatty Evora 4C is almost to heavy. Evora just an Sumo Ringer.
Evora has a V6 wich means more parts = bad Evora weight 400kg more then the 4c. Evora drains much more Fuel. The tires and breaks and suspension of the Evora wear out faster because of its weight.
But why usn't anyone doing the ... obvious car comparison .... the Alfa 4C Vs Renault Alpine A110 ??? Who cares about the ugly old Evora? It was always way overpriced for what it was...and yes most Evora owners are struggling to sell their cars.
Because there aren't any Alpines in the Uk yet.. and I certainly would struggle to get hold of one. Also, Evoras are not for me overpriced, they are underrated. They are slow to sell but values have also held up much better than the equivalent 911. Try driving one, it will surprise you!!
Another moron who has never driven an Evora or 4c. Take my word for a grain of salt but I test drove both and bought an Evora S. It's overall just better and it gets way more looks then my friend with his white alfa 4c.
justaddafan Yeah, I like the man pedal too and rowing thru a manual gearbox BUT I can channel my inner Kimi Raikonnen while paddle shifting as I pour thru the turns in a 4C
By all accounts, Lotus are borderline criminal in their treatment of customers. Also the 4c is several million times better looking. Italian style vs English hillbilly.
mmm....the engine and drive train in the 4C have proven to be pretty much bullet proof. I have a 2015 LE coupe bought new and 0 problems. I am also a Super Moderator of the ALFA 4C Forum with members/owners from all over the world. You should check it out....you will see just how great of a car it is as reported through owners experiences. Lotus have issues with suspension, trans, etc. so they aren't necessarily a reliable car. The engine is OK as a stock Toyota engine but the tweaking they do on the Exige and Elise has produced a few warts. Look them up. That being said I also really like the Exige Cup cars but those aren't sold in the US. My neighbor has an identical car as mine. Previously he had the Exige in the US version with the 4 cylinder supercharged engine. He made many upgrades to that car including bigger intercooler and ducting, suspension, tweaks, ECU, etc. His 4C how has the same equivalent mods. He says that his 4C is signifcantly better/faster than his old Exige. And I respect his comments as he has owned and raced many awesome cars over the years....Caterham, Porsche, Lotus, Super 7, Cobra clone.
Umm, tried the 400 and noise aside (which can easily be replaced in the S with new back box) there is really is not that much in it.. depends how much you prefer new look and interior
Definition of a happy guy: when you have to choose between an Evora and a 4C...
Would love you to get a 4C. Such a beautiful looking car.
They do look fantastic!!
4C all the way!!!
The 4C stands out of the crowd. Looks much better all round. You will make a good choice owning a beautiful, outstanding tiny little 4C
4c, evora, and Cayman (excluding the flat 4 engined 718) are the best modern cars that kept some of the older driving and sports car philosophies...They are also likely the last... :(
I agree with you, totally!!
What about the alpine a110 or gt86?
The Alfa is Productionwise much more work and a Masterpiece.
The carbon chassis is lovely...
It's a unreliable turd
Uh ? Its obviously copying the evora. Doesnt have wishbone suspension. 4 banger compared to a V6. On and on.
Another 2 year old
As much as I love Alfa, an evora with a manual would be my choice.
Loved this video. After my evora was rear ended and totaled, i decided to give the 4C a try. It was also a dream car of mine so why not. I rented a 4C for a few days and loved it! 4C is a hoot to drive, and fascinating to look at.
More fun to drive than a 718 cayman ?
Alfa Romeo 4c superior
Since your video is almost two years old I'm sure you have already made your decision, I hope it ended up being one that you personally are content with. Great video, thanks.

Matt The Elise is better than the 4C in every way.
True, should have done more on those points as well, so much to think about on the day that I miss some things which would be useful to feature
Absolute rubbish. I own both the 4c and an Evora (for which I traded my Elise.
All are wonderful, but the Alfa puts the biggest smile on my face.
Good to see you upgraded the drone, as for the cars, mmm, duty’s out on the 4c, I guess for me a sports car needs a gear stick.
Lotus.....I bloody love them and so does he by the sound of it!
I like the 4C as well though but Im a lotus/porsche guy for sure
Wicked cars!!!

Wouldn't a Porsche 911, maybe aircooled, even a 964 be a good replacement for the Evora?... Oh hang on!
Ha!!! Yes, now why did I not think of a 964 as car number 12!! ;)
Was the Mavic damaged? Glad to hear you got it back, and great comparison video!
It was but I repaired it!! took me 4 hours though, a few parts and youtube tutorials!
What are the rear tyres on the Evora? Looks like an interesting tread pattern at 12:53
Ha! yes it had just gone over a mat on the ground that left those patterns!
Imagine if we could have that Supercharged V6 and tuned exhaust (and 350-400 hp) in the 4C! That would be sweet.
Why not buy a Larini or 2ubular exhaust if there isn't enough noise?
Did you do a video on repairing the Evora headlights, I thought you had but I can't find it.
Nope.. I think they need to be relaquered..but I've not done it yet
Had both, like the 4c more. My Exige is tied with it.

Great video as usual Jack and I'm pleased you saved your drone 🙂
Ryan Mccormick Everyone, including Chris Harris, cracks on the 4C steering wheel but I don’t see what’s so bad about it ...what am I missing here ?
Devik Lovecraft I just looks awful in my opinion but obviously not everyone is going to think that.
It's because otherwise you won't be able to get in and out. The shape is just pure practicality.
Thanks Buddy, I was relieved too!!! Some I lost the shots!
4c just looks a bit wide to be nimble, and have options in road placement

Stop spamming this crap. Evora beat 997.1 GT3, Noble M600 and Lamborghini Huracan to win 2009 Evo Car of they Year.
but i,m right. 400kg less is more important than prices
A lot of people can't get in my Elise. They all could enjoy an Evora. Only in Lotus discussions is an Evora criticised for being "heavy."
a Evora weights almost twice then the first elise (723kg vs 1400kg)
so "heavy" is not the right word :D you can say, compared to an elise, its a sumo wrestler.
even the Mercedes Benz C Class from my dad weight less then the Fatty Evora
The 4c was a beautiful looking car but nobody bought it 😪
As an alfa lover... Evora wins this. Main issue for me are the flappy things.
If you want daily sportscar, you'll end up with Cayman. It's Quality but there are more interesting out there for me.
How much are GT-R going for in the uk?
GT-R too big and heavy for my liking.. not looked at prices recently!!
Not my kind of car either. Difficult. Options... Honda s2000, Aston Vantage, Z4 coupé, Corvette:)?
Nice video hope the drone survived without issues, three hours to make a video,4 hours to rescue the drone😉
Thanks Michael, relieved we got it back!
Lotus all day for me.
Alfa have created something unique and fascinating with the 4c, but it is flawed in many ways.
As a drivers car, the Lotus is a lot more progressive when it starts to let go, better steering, and just better better.
The 4c is ugly too.
Alfa should’ve offered a cheaper version of the 4c with a manual
Thought you were not going to sink the cash into another car?
Those AR's are pricey
Yes true.. but cheap to maintain.. still I'll have to think twice before spending all that cash on the last car
Number27 I wish you well in search ... be hard to find a replacement to the LE.
@@ArPatterson73 I have one and NO it isn't for sale. Fantastic car...especially with better tires than the crap it came with.
Evora 400
Evora has a V6 wich means more parts = bad

DevouringKing but it's not made in Italy so it automatically wins.
DevouringKing One thing worth noting is that the 400 is considerably better on fuel than the Evora S he's currently running.
Interesting.. did not know that
I’ve only just made this decision myself !
Good decision! Matt Farah very much agrees with you, too.

4C is almost to heavy. Evora just an Sumo Ringer.
Glad you like it Devik, they are super cars, very underrated in my view!!
This is what The Shire was supposed to look like.
The Shire???
Wrong move to replace an Evora with a 4C!
The 4C is sooooooo much sexier!
And then came a Cayman S and left both of these in the dust!
So probably not the 4C, then......

Everyone should drive a Caterham, by that logic. People do like some comfort.
DevouringKing hahaha. Ah, Wrong.
Geat cars!
Cant compare a V6 to the 4. Although the Alfa is much more beautiful than the Lotus.
The Lotus will be far more reliable long term though.
@@ultraguy8771 Ive had 8 Alfas there very reliable if you maintatin them properly
By a Exige 350 and you will be happier😊
There is a 4C locally, looks great, sounds awful!
From outside not the best.. but better from inside the car! But Evora sounds better, just needs to be louder!
But why usn't anyone doing the ... obvious car comparison .... the Alfa 4C Vs Renault Alpine A110 ??? Who cares about the ugly old Evora? It was always way overpriced for what it was...and yes most Evora owners are struggling to sell their cars.
Mac Sixtyfive Thank you! I wish they would bring the Renault Alpine A110 to the US. Both cars are absolutely gorgeous!
Or elise cup 250
🙏
Bah, automatic transmission.
justaddafan Yeah, I like the man pedal too and rowing thru a manual gearbox BUT I can channel my inner Kimi Raikonnen while paddle shifting as I pour thru the turns in a 4C
Next episode, I've traded in my 4C for a C8 Corvette.
E giustamente non la fanno più
Evora 400. Disappointed in Alfa. Could have built better car.
By all accounts, Lotus are borderline criminal in their treatment of customers.
Also the 4c is several million times better looking.
Italian style vs English hillbilly.
Why you going to get rid of the Reliable one(Toyota power train) for an Italian turd 💩 like the 4c
Ummm... not a turd!! I do love the Evora but also the 4C!!!
mmm....the engine and drive train in the 4C have proven to be pretty much bullet proof.
Old dude should be a Prius. He has no clue what's 4c for
Just upgrade to a 400 so so so superior to Alfa
Umm, tried the 400 and noise aside (which can easily be replaced in the S with new back box) there is really is not that much in it.. depends how much you prefer new look and interior
