As gunpla was my gateway drug into 40k, I have thought of one day painting an Enforcer in Gundam colors just for fun. And if I can find a Gundam kit of a similar size, it might be interesting to paint it in T'au sept ochre and white, and put them side by side to display the switcharoo. Now reading your comment, I'm imagining a Riptide painted in this scheme. And the image in my head looks awesome.
I love the fact the you show the back of the mini as well. So many times when trying to learn how to paint my models, I never know what to paint in the back cause some never show it.
Wow, this is great! Outstanding work as usual, with a few things I would like to try on my own Mechs. Fun side note: while the MadCat / TimberWolf is a BattleMech, it is more specifically an OmniMech. The Clans used both, but an OmniMech has several advantages that pure BattleMechs do not have (and a few drawbacks). Mostly in repair time, how quickly they can change loadouts, and time to get back onto the field of battle.
Phenomenal work! I just picked up my copy of Battletech Alpha Strike and this will help so much getting something that looks great! My boxes of Battletech and Citytech from the 80's had cardboard so we didn't worry about painting anything!
I really appreciate that you paint such a variety of models. I just picked up the Alpha Strike box and was happy to see not one but two of your videos at the top of my search for "painting battletech". I likely won't go as detailed as you show here (especially on the canopies) but as always I learned a lot and it will inspire me anyway.
This looks fantastic, a great paintjob really elevates these simple plastic sculpts. Would love to see more tutorials for Kurita/or Steiner or clan Ghost Bear too!
I found Games Workshop's Agrellan Earth and Agrellan Badland (or even a mix of both on one base) a very good choice for basing BattleTech miniatures. Just apply them and give them a shade with Agrax Earthshade, that should already suffice. Plain sand will also do fine, but be careful when using sand mixed with small stones. Very fine sand works better.

Love the tutorial and can't wait to see more. Especially since Battletech colour schemes aren't individual mech specific so 1 tutorial covers a whole faction. 1 point I have to disagree with though is the use of static grass... remembering all the different worlds the mechs fight on alien grasses and wild grasses could be quite high. I can appreciate your point of view on that though.
@@milksterproductions yup1 hubbie got me into D&D 2nd edition, magic the gathering and table top wargaming in the early 90's. It does mean that neither of us can resist the plastic crack or a box of boosters. Mind you I remember when a box of boosters had far far far more in them.

Definitely faster but clearly more steps (as shown here) would produce better detail! Would love to see more Battletech content in the future.

I've painted a Star of Wolf Beta Galaxy previously, and am looking forward to incorporating some of your techniques into the next one (especially the contrast paint time saver!). I'm getting my kids into the hobby with me, so any time savers that still help minis look good is a win! Can we get some love for a Ghost Bear unit next? I'd LOVE to see how you do some deep blues, ice color schemes, or something really fun and complex like the galaxy paint scheme from the Ghost Bear Alpha Galaxy!
I've had a lot of success with both Battlemechs and Adeptus Titanicus miniatures by using Typhus Corrosion on the base, then painting and drybrushing it like grass or sand, and using Stirland Battlemire (because that's what I have, you could easily use Astrogranite instead) and painting over it with grey and highlighting it for rocky stretches of terrain. But my best idea was using Valhallan Blizzard for shrubs... basically, put a clump of that down, wait for it to dry, then paint the whole thing with Plaguebearer Flesh Contrast paint and put scattered coverage of Militarum Green so it's mostly that color with lighter bits.
OMG THE LEGEND? PAINTING BATTLETECH???!? WOOOO! When I abandoned GW I thought i'd never see him again beyond painting GW stuff Now he's painting miniatures from my favorite setting!
Anyway you might be willing to make one of these for Alpha Galaxy or Clan Ghost Bear? Love this video, wish there were more out there of this high quality for battletech
