I got the point but I think the point he was making was off topic.
I thought the point he was trying to make was the "swimming" aspect, where ice was etc... He made such a big deal about how cold it was to swim, you would think he would just swim it in a wetsuit or drysuit. If your going to swim in -1deg water nearly naked I thought you would be smart enough to dress for the occasion.. Otherwise stop complaining about your fingers being cold!
Who cares if he survived it...

  • @kalaway

I'm sure it does, but he's still swimming at the NORTH POLE! I doubt there are -1 wetsuits that would keep him toasty up there. It's still reckless and it's still makes his point without endangering his extremities.

i suspect his hands did not get frost bite because his swimming strokes created a centrifugal force forcing warmer blood from his core into his hands.
spin an arm in circles quickly and you can feel the blood going into your finger tips.

20 cars emit around 9,150 kg of carbon emissions per race. 17 races, i think, not sure as I dont watch em. Approx 155 550 kg per year. I dont know if that is a reliable number as there was no originality of the source for the 9 150 kg, so who knows. But now you have some kind of a point. Now we need someone to verify this number and you're set on how much effect F1 has on the global co2 emissions. 4 000 000 000 000 kg is the amount of natural emissions, please correct if I counted wrong.

Here is your point of view, as I understand it; You want to save the world, you dont want people to suffer. Living a careless life isn't worth it if the world falls apart. You want life to be preserved, and you dont want an iceage to destroy the world. And you find that taking steps, as banning racing and limiting cars etc is easy for you, and acceptable. Would you settle for living in the woods without healthcare etc, I dont know we havent discussed it, but some people would like that as well.

it wouldn't be realistic at all. We need to change a lot of things but let's start with what we can do here and now. Banning racing would not matter at all to the human civilization but it would still help on the issue of pollution.
Think of how many different kinds of racing there is.. Rally, various boats, plains, motorcycles, F1, monster trucks, Nascar, snowmobile etc etc etc.
It's not like we only need to worry about 20 F1 races a year or something like that.

I never said that. I never said I dont believe cars pollute until I see numbers. I'm saying you can't go banning things because you just want to. You need to make your point, otherwise there's no point in discussing anything. I gave you numbers, now you can check if it's worth it to stop F1. And by worth I mean pissing off loads of people and taking the livelyhood from loads of people, just for cutting down anything. With that policy, we shoudl cut down on anything you see unuseful.

He might if you'd present him the facts of human fault in global warming. That's the way it works. Everything else is just banter and pointless arguing. So if you say, racing should be banned, I looked up the facts and gave them to you.

I think you're right. When the ice age ended, it wasn't because of car exhaust, it was because the Earth got warmer. Same goes for the ice age before that.
Thinking that we can stop the climate change now is like expecting us to keep the Ice Age from thawing.

My point wasn't to blame it all on SUV's alone. I was only trying to say that the areas of SUV's and various forms of racing are some of the easiest areas to make a difference. SUV's aren't needed. Neither is racing. Sure, it's going to suck for the F1, Nascar, boat racing fans etc. but we simply can't keep putting people's entertainment over the future of the planet.
There's lots of things that could be entertaining but are already outlawed.

And I do have facts on my side.. Even without doing tons of research. It's logic.
We need to cut down on the pollution, we agree that a racing car pollutes, we agree that racing isn't a needed thing. Where's the problem? You agree with me. I don't make crap up.

440 gt (giga tons) naturally/year. 26.4 gt human emissions. From which 40% (10,56 gt) are naturally absorbed. 15,84 gt are left over.
So cut down emissions by 15,84 gt and you should have a balance. Racing would down 15,84gt by 0,0098%. You'd be left with 15,684450 gt. That's what cutting F1 from the world would do. Now I need to go. I'm almost running late.

  • @Lawh
    @Lawh 15 років тому

And I agree, I dont see racing as useful, but something being just unuseful isnt enough, you need graphs, you need numbers, you need a valid point which isn't relative to anything but facts. And you need a plan, which I haven't heard from at all. All I've heard is a plan for cutting, but what is the plan I would like to know. This is how stuff gets handled, not just ranting on youtube repeating what other people with possible agendas say. Stop being so defencive, you need opposition to learn.

Sigh.. You just don't get it. So until you find some numbers on a website you won't believe that racing cars cause pollution?
We always hear people talking about buying cars with a better fuel efficiency and that's wonderful. We need to do that.
But then it's ridiculous that we allow people to drive around in incredibly polluting cars just to have fun. What kind of signal are we trying to send here?
We need to cut down on pollution wherever we can. Racing is just one example. :S

Of course it isn't pointless. We all know that a racing car (of any kind) uses more fuel than a normal family car.
"The fuel economy of a monster truck is 7 Gallons per Mile or 17 Litres per Kilometer" - Monsterjamonline . com
    "Formula 1: 3.1 US mpg - 3.8 UK mpg - 1.3 km/l" - Wiki
I'm not saying that making racing illegal is THE solution but it seems pretty weird that no one talks about it. It's people driving around in circles for fun. Pointless pollution. :/

Of course we still need to make stricter laws for companies around the world as well. But we can't just simply chimneys illegal like we can with SUV's and racing. Then we're back in the stone age.
The problems regarding companies is a much slower thing to change. We can't just say "No pollution from companies!" tomorrow and expect anything good to come from it. We still need the food, the clothes, the computers etc.
We need to start now though. Start with the things we don't need at all.

I'm sure you could find a graph of an estimated co2 emission of a single F1 race. Then times that by how many races there are a year. And I'm sure it wouldn't amount to much on a global scale. Then you need to find approx all races in a coutry or the world and show us how much is emitted by racing. Again, I'm sure it doesn't come to much. Think of the millions of cars compared to lets say 20 F1 races a year.

They use faulty logic, as who would want their children to suffer? Some dont mind, including my parents, but mostly people care of what happens. Nothing should be taken for granted, that people should follow your views on saving the world, as some dont want to. You need facts, then you need to see the "price tag", then you need to debate.

People need to understand that if their "It doesn't do *that* much damage" claim works, then everyone can say the same. One factory doesn't do *that* much damage either but all the "small" things add up.
SUV makers could just as well be making electric cars or whatever. No jobs lost.
Racing could be electric too for that matter.. Wasting fossil fuels just isn't acceptable anymore.

Something is seriously wrong when we (humans in general) even allow people to drive around in Hummers, do all kinds of car racing etc. when the planet is in this shape.

The defining property of Jesus' message is His loving power runs through human beings who are willingly yielded to His Mind or Words which represent God His Father's creative power. Self has no place in God's realm aside from your own personality which doesn't change. It's God's power of Love through believers that makes it possible for man to see God! You've got to see God. He's invisible, but you can see Him through Jesus the man who lived just as we do! So self is not it! Spirit is!

Impressive to say the least, Im very comfortable in cold weather but -1, damn I dont think I could do that.
Im not very knowledgeable on this but as far as I know the climate did warm up by natural courses in the past, I think it was because of gasses from volcanoes & things like that.
Many volcanoes are extinct now but we have more than made up for the gasses produced by them.......
