one thing i know about this is that you can resize rooms without headache. In my country exterior and interior walls are out of brick and when you decide to make room smaller it's a hell of a headache to break a brick wall. This way is easy.
I did all this in 2012. It really wasn't very fun. Total pain in the butt. I remember having the plumb bob too and building several compound angel walls. But at least it's done and it looks good. I wouldn't ever build an interior wall in anything less than a 2x4. 2x3's are not for wall construction!
To study this, you need to study the studs along the studs while you stud the stud that's studded to the stud. While those studs are studying, stud a few more studs in your stud to achieve studly stud.
If you run the drywall horizontally, you will have to deal with a taper at the bottom where you're going to be trying to install baseboard, and that won't be fun - it would be easier to run the drywall vertically. Also it shows filling the joint without using paper tape (incorrect), and does not show how to finish the end of the wall or the joint to the existing wall (ie. corners). Lastly, this is built with 2x3's, which I guess you could do, but practically no wall was ever built with 2x3's. At best a 2x3 wall will look odd and very DIY.
To be fair, they don't show you how to sand the joints, mix the paint, put primer first... or even make an opening for a door. Unless you are partitioning a room with two doors, you will need a door to get into this new room.
1. Why didn`t you build the wall on the floor and then stand it up ? That seems quicker . 2. Why did you use screws ? I know they hold better than nails but I have never seen someone use them on a wall . 3. Why did you skip drywall paper when you were " mudding " the wall after you had the sheetrock up ?
Is there a video that builds the wall with a wooden skeletal structure, insulation, AC power plug and socket, and finishing touches of dry wall, gypsum, and painting?
AlphaApple- You probably have to use several videos to get the full picture . The video that you want would be rather lengthy and wouldn`t likely get a lot of views . 1. Remember , you build the wall first . Remember that you have to put poly on exterior walls to protect the " plates" . 2. Then , you do the electrical " rough in" . ( boxes and wiring ) You do have to remember to put in 1-2 ceiling boxes , about 3 or 4 boxes for your plug ins and a box for your on/off switches. Basically you must have enough of them to serve the needs of that room and have them at the correct height . 3. Then , you put in the insulation batts . For any exterior walls you must have a plastic vapor barrier which you staple into place . Be careful to do this correctly . 4. You will then put up some kind of " drywall" such as sheetrock (gyproc ). 5. If you put up sheetrock ( gypsum board ) you will have to paper and mud the joints . 6. After you paper and mud the joints you can finish your electrical work .This is when you put up your fixtures and "wire in " the plug ins and the on/off switches . 7 . At that point you will paint your walls . 8. You will then install your flooring . 9 . After the flooring you will hang your doors . 10. After that you install your baseboard and door casing and any window casing . ( Somehow , I forgot about your ceiling . )
ah, don't "toe-screw" in from the sides you intend to put wall board on, run your screws in on the "wide side" of the two by four, leaving nothing but a completely flat wall for the wallboard to rest on, So that later on you can't ever see any screw bulges.
What the heck is "vertically level"? I think you mean plumb, as in a plumb-bob (aka plumb line). Any "level" reference indicates an horizontal position.
I need help in how to do a inside wall and this video was very well explained I hope this guy still making videos cause was 5 years ago Now is October-2020
Why wouldn’t you use a nail gun with framing nails? And do you have to use cross studs? It’s not like there are cross studs on the rest of the walls when you frame.
It is code to use nails for framing in my area, screws don't have good shear strength, nails do. screws have better tensile strength, but nails have anchoring rings giving it good tensile strength as well. Cross studs help to keep the studs straight over time so you don't crack the sheet rock. Vibrations from slaming doors or bumping into walls rattling the studs can crack your finish (paint and mud lines). ALso wood moves with humidity and hot and cold, the cross studs will help keep it in place.
Tape is usually for big gaps or cheap lumber use , it is a new rule modern generation set to have more a pretige look on the wall .removing little flaws
why would toenail screwing the studs to the top and bottom be preferable to assembling the wall on the floor, shooting into the studs directly through the top and bottom pieces?
Difficulty: 1/4, and it takes 1 day? To finish the drywall correctly will take 2-3 days alone. This job is for a professional or an experienced, handy person.
EXACTLY!!!! It makes no sense that he didn’t notch out the baseboard, now the new walls first stud can’t sit flush against the stud in the existing wall that he attached it too, so now integrity and strength is lost in his brand new wall. It’s driving me crazy. Don’t post a how-to video when you’re doing it wrong and then have other unsuspecting people, who think you know what you’re talking about, doing this type of crap in their own homes. Somebody’s wall quite possibly could end up coming down on them if they ever hang something heavy on a wall they built using this tutorial.
Hiring someone about 2k doing it yourself with a saw, lumber, nails, drywall, paint baseboard, tape, mud, corner metal about 200.00 maybe 3 depending on paint and if i buy a used saw or really cheap one or cheap or good paint
Depends if you have a saw. Without saw about 100 : paint 25.00, drywall 30.00 nails 5 compound n tape 15 base board 15 lumber 40 corner metal 7 so about 150 add another 150.00 for saw or if u find a used one cheaper or har or freight. Im building one today
Yeah….no big deal!! Just grab a brush and roller he said. Then just screw some drywall to the wood, NO POBLEMO!!! H LOL!!! I wonder how many walls out there in the world came out AAAAAALL FUCKED UP!!!
This video makes it look easy.
I built two walls with the help of this video
How are those walls today?
rona people will sue you.....
twice
Thats cool
Yeah right! lol
Another 2 walls and a roof and you'll have a house

I learned something new today and also a new word Plumb bob.
EXCELLENT tutorial...Clear and concise!..Thank you.
Watching this in 2020 is hitting different with the channel name being the pandemic we are going through
was there a co in the name?
"What did one wall say to the other?" "I'll meet you at the corner."

wenweru1 i don't understud what u mean
Stud using the word stud it’s studding to get on my stud nerves.
Can a joist be a stud , too ?
Sounds like fun.
This had me laughing hard , so stupid hahaha
😂😂😂
Take a shot every time your hear the word "studs" in this video lol let's see how that wall turns out 😂
was totally thinking this... well played!
Bro I'm totally not having a good time. I got drunk af
And screw it 🤣🤣
Your company's name has taken on new meaning in 2020
😂😂😂😂😂
Lmao
thank you sir!
i love these educational/skill videos on youtube
I think you're brilliant, I enjoy what's going on here
Best how to video💪
Great video for beginners
great video, very informative, exactly what I needed.
Good stuff
I wish stores had these thing already made and all you had to do was glue the sides where you want it!!

Fabulous.
Thank You,
June.
thanks a lot RONA, very useful your video, greetings from Venezuela
how are you walls in venezuela now?
hmmmmm that aged well
Thanks for the material
I didn't see any drywall tape at the seam being muded. Lol that's gonna cause some issues ha ha
You can screw the 2x4s into the old dry wall!?! I was figuring you had to cut the dry wall first. If not, that saves a lot of work.
What a great video. Am i the only one watching in 2021?? Is everyone still alive??
It looks like you didn't bother to remove the base molding before starting!?
this video is perfect just what i needed !!!!ty
Great tutorial! 👌

I love the way it is

Darren Lowe you can if you make sure to bury the screw far enough so the head is just below the surface of the 2x4
Are those even 2x4? Looks more like 2x3
I have a question how do I add nails on the plate too the floor if it’s tile
Remove the tile?
🔨 that's my stud finder
who frames with 2x3?? also please use drywall tape on your joints
Feels like a European thing?
that was very well done! thank you!
yay!! WELL DONE GUY!!!
what a great video, thanks
This video is very informative - thanks for sharing with us
Siang
How do u determine the length of first plates
your awesome Donald
The explanation of joist perpendicular or parallel is confusing, without seeing where he wants the wall in the room. No clue wth he's talking about.
Great help - thanks!
Superb Information to built partition wall!
Very nice video, although it doesn’t talk about the joints between the existing wall and new drywall.
Is it necessary to remove existing drywall from adjacent wall or ceiling? You didn't in your video, and was wondering if this was common?
It is not a load bearing wall.
No
Do you need permits, if so does it depend by state?
What the heck is "vertically level"? I think you mean plumb, as in a plumb-bob (aka plumb line). Any "level" reference indicates an horizontal position.
Who are the people that do this as a career because it looks fun
I need help in how to do a inside wall and this video was very well explained
I hope this guy still making videos cause was 5 years ago
Now is October-2020
My bad was 7 years ago
It was not covered how well to apply tape and mud to the intersection of the new drywall and existing ceiling. How to finesse the work.

I built ONE wall and a Mexican paid for it!!😂🌮👍
Am I the only one who thought this was meant to be a pet project during the 'rona lockdowns?
was there no tape in the joint between sheetrock panels. I think they just used mud which would be a big mistake
Tape is usually for big gaps or cheap lumber use , it is a new rule modern generation set to have more a pretige look on the wall .removing little flaws
i thought cross joints had to be staggered not inline?
why would toenail screwing the studs to the top and bottom be preferable to assembling the wall on the floor, shooting into the studs directly through the top and bottom pieces?
couldn't get it tight enough, top and bottom, would have to use shims.
This is exactly what I was looking for!
About how much does a wall this size cost?
6 year later question. Did you ever build that Wall?? #Trump
^?? And how much it cost lmao
Screws? not nails? Is there a difference in your opinion?
Could have sworn cross-studs are supposed to be offset. But still a fine vid.
can u use L brackets instead of screwing at an angle?
Great thank you!
I've tried and tried but my plum bob just doesn't sit right. I think it doesn't work if you only have one ball.
3:20 why isn’t the baseboard removed or at least notched? You can’t build a wall up against that!
Difficulty: 1/4, and it takes 1 day? To finish the drywall correctly will take 2-3 days alone. This job is for a professional or an experienced, handy person.
Aren’t you supposed to cut the baseboard?
how do you do the clean corners tho?
Very well explained ! Good video !
You left the base board on, so I can't imagine this being done right
Frank Pace not to mention no tape when he mudding the joints haha
EXACTLY!!!! It makes no sense that he didn’t notch out the baseboard, now the new walls first stud can’t sit flush against the stud in the existing wall that he attached it too, so now integrity and strength is lost in his brand new wall. And he made a mark on 16" instead of 15-1/4" and 16 3/4"
There was no base board. Only unpainted wall left by the baseboard that he removed.
@@estebanoures1 Just center it then!
Thank You!!! Now even I can do it!
How to open a non low bearing wall, reconnect / re-route electrical double light switch and wall plug? In a weekend or two.
I can do that in ten minutes, too 😥
Nice!
How to I make sure I don’t screw wires
how much would material cost
How much will it cost to do?
Nice, thank you
what did u use to cover the drywall panel?
How mich woukd it cost to put up a wall like this? Just a ball park material and labor.
Hiring someone about 2k doing it yourself with a saw, lumber, nails, drywall, paint baseboard, tape, mud, corner metal about 200.00 maybe 3 depending on paint and if i buy a used saw or really cheap one or cheap or good paint
Great video. I think it is 2" x 4" x 8' - unless we're talking doll's house
That's a closet
Read wrong and goes from 8 and up depending on the size of the original studs
Hi. Do you used 2x2 in the studs?
Ok, but how do I secure the base of my new wall to the floor when it's on a concrete foundation?
Anchors
so if you have carpet do you need to remove it before you build the new wall?
Hello Wenkai! Yes, you need to remove the carpet where the wall will be build for a better result.
Do you need a permit to build a wall?
How much do the materials cost for this?
cool information thankd
I'm gonna build wall on front of all my doors and prank my future self
This video would make a great drinking game. “Take a shot every time you hear any form of the word stud” lol
What if you have radiant heating?
Time to upgrade to hvac haha
How much does this cost?
How much would this cost to build the wall? Probably around $100?
Nigga around 800
Depends if you have a saw. Without saw about 100 : paint 25.00, drywall 30.00 nails 5 compound n tape 15 base board 15 lumber 40 corner metal 7 so about 150 add another 150.00 for saw or if u find a used one cheaper or har or freight. Im building one today
I found this video etremely hard to follow, is it just me? 😂
Helpful
Yeah….no big deal!! Just grab a brush and roller he said. Then just screw some drywall to the wood, NO POBLEMO!!! H LOL!!! I wonder how many walls out there in the world came out AAAAAALL FUCKED UP!!!
so is a non load baring wall something i could hang a hammock from that wall to another to sit and swing in in my room
You could if you used bigger support beams and reinforced it more
I built a wall with this video
and then I trapped inside the room
so is this why walls dont block noise at all...
No insulation?
U dont need it its not a room wall or supporting wall its a partition so basically decoration
where you located?
Love it
