NF has been criticized for being too serious in his music so he uses that fake joker smile to represent how him and people in general put on a fake smile to perform whatever they have to do in life. Critics have said he should smile more and make happier music but he just writes whatever he’s feeling at the moment and uses music as his therapy.
Great reaction guys. I do wanna point out some of nf's doubles in the song. I think they are subtle but they're there. "....but that don't make a DIFFERENCE imma have risk it, I've been CRUNCHING NUMBERS you ain't gotta be a MATHEMATICIAN to see the ODDS ain't ROOTING for me" "underdog..... if they push me I'm gonna swing" "make a mill, nah I said make a meal. .... home cooking get the grill.... ... everything I see is overdone to me". I loved the reaction, just wanted to point some of these out because ppl often say nf doesn't do many doubles.
I seen NF a couple weeks ago at the Target Center in Minneapolis. Ive been to quite a few concerts now but he was definitely my favorite. Just a crazy atmosphere.
@@hitman9198 as far as what? Do you mean is he present at the show? No, Tommee writes all his beats/sounds and participates in writing some of his lyrics. I highly recommend going to an NF concert though. I just went to his show in Philly and it was insane.
The focus on the end is less on the makeup and more on how, even though he's achieved his dream, that it does not mean that all his issues are solved, that being famous means he must be happy, or fulfilled. He's not excited and hyped after the concert. He's contemplative, looking at himself in the mirror and thinking about what it is that missing from his life.
Soooo @derek24karat said it well. He covers why he paints on the fake smile in the songs "Therapy Session" and "Outcast". Therapy session might be a nice old song for you guys to check out for more background and Oucast is great verses (bars) ...with an iffy chorus.
The line "If you ever push me I'm gonna swing" is a triple as he calls himself the "underdog" which is also a description of a person who pushes someone on a swing and runs under the push. Also swing like a punch. A lot of easter eggs in this one too. The name on the janitor uniform says "Outcast", he was trying to sell CDs to his coworkers, he has the actual release date of his song "Time" on the restaurant ticket, and obviously his first fan. Therapy Session would give you details of the fake smile.
@@EternalLuv4MyGOD yup.. also an underrated older NF reactor AltSpace.. he's a English major or something from England who decided to just go through the Journey bc his channel is literally 98% NF then it just stops after Clouds.. but he had a really cool way of dissecting words through his major knowing how diff words are used etc.. he found, iirc, like 4-5 diff ways that bar could be interpreted.. he was very well versed in catching those words bc of his own love for OG rap like 2Pac etc whom he relates to NF once in a while.. very down to earth guy. highly recommed.

Thanks for the specific recs! I’m pretty new to NF but have loved some of what I’ve heard and intrigued to hear more. Also appreciate what I’ve heard about him as a person and artist.
9:40. Your reaction to the crowd transition was great. I can imagine what you guys have been through but you're killing it now. You’ve gotta learn to love the grind. Because life is the grind!
I like how NF showed the representation of his fans as that kid with the drink and straw, then also showed him at the end of MOTTO. Like how he was still performing before he got the fame and even if it's not there he will still perform for that one fan😶
“I look at the crowd and see so many faces, that’s when I start to get anxious, that’s when my thoughts can be dangerous, THATS WHEN i PUT ON MY MAKEUP AND DROWN in SELF HATRED, forget I’m sayin and…where’d the beat go…” ~The Search
It's the same in the writing world as well. Poetry, novels, novellas, etc... I have a lot of friends in the same boat as I am. This song hits. As does Paid My Dues, which you'll get to eventually ;)
Really enjoy watching your reactions keep up the great work. There is history behind the smile and if you go to the therapy session album and specific therapy session the song you'll hear mention about people always wanting him to smile more or smile. Sometimes you don't feel like smiling and just want to be yourself so he would paint the smile on his face do his show and then wipe the smile off. There's nothing darker deep so much about it but it is symbolic of he paints a smile on his face to quote make everyone happy. It's just a symbol. Please do, go the journey.
Loved being able to write this with Nate! The black smile on his face, represents people who are doing something and who aren’t following what they want deep inside.
I just watched NF sing this live in Minneapolis last month and it was surreal to be one of the people singing in the audience. Such an awesome concert! The fake smile represents the expectations others have on him to always be happy even if he does not feel that way. I think this is a common feeling people have in general. I actually wrote a poem a long time ago called Behind the Mask about this very topic. We all put on the "face" that those around us expect us to present. #NFREALMUSIC
As someone who got a job cooking in high school just to make money, to someone who is now a chef at a top restaurant in my town. 10:34 speaks volumes to me because doing a job like fast food cook/server gives you skills that translate to any job you may want to get outside of it.
NF went through a long period where he would paint a smile on his face while on stage. It was the mask of showing a public that he's all good when in real life he was suffering emotionally. This shows that as soon as he gets off stage he wipes off the smile and back to dealing with his burdens. Listen to the song Therapy Session with lyrics: "Want me to smile? You want me to laugh? You want me to walk on the stage with a smile on my face When I'm mad and put on a mask?"
I love yall have questions and eventually will get to find the answers but that is the wonderful thing about NF. Leaves you to figure out who he is and him being REAL about it.. Nate tweeted after his show in Arizona(biggest show of his career) and mentions about that effect like you see in the video. I'm sure it can be overwhelming on a stage n then just go back to being normal 🙃
If you want to just understand the makeup, check out Therapy Session off Therapy Session album. His earlier music gives his background story (Mansion & Therapy Session) and insight into what he talks about in his later albums (Perception, The Search, Clouds, Hope).
Yeah it's little fun fact about the black balloons in all the early videos is that not only do they represent burdens, they're actually the symbol for overdose awareness.
I think he's saying that he made it where he was rapping about wanting to be but it doesn't make him happy. He's having to put on a fake smile at the sold out shows.
NF made a reference one time when he was asked if he was a christian rapper. His response was “I am a rapper who is a christian. If a plumber is a christian, is he a christian plumber?”
How are you a hip hop head and can't even quote on of the most classic intros to a song...."what do you wanna be when you grow up?...I wanna be a mother fn HUSTLER you betta ask somebody!"

Not to mention he can rap in three languages and shady and dre both know his potential and will further pave the way for attention to hip hop becoming international. I think he's got a track with Eminem dropping around the 11th which would give you Time to do the ez mil rabbit hole which will help guide the algorithm towards you having a chance to have some of your biggest viewed videos ever. 27 bodies, the live song with him and his sister singing, up down which is the video Eminem posted announcing the signing, And his catalog's fairly deep. If your show leans towards hip hop not covering this and covering Rammstein and 5-year-old NF and flash in the pan cover artists instead is a big oversight in my opinion. I'm trying to be constructive not negative. your channel is fire.
It's so annoying to hear anything like "the Eminem cadence"...2 people can have similar flows (especially when it's on 1 track and not consistent) and not be biting the others flow. I'm so sick to death of white rappers automatically being compared to Em bc something sounded similar
Remember Ez Mil sir.. he got signed by Eminem itself and Dre.. he just drop a song featuring Eminem “Realist” Filipinos hope you react to it.. thank you in advance…
