I was so inspired by your work and bought EF135mm for my Canon EOS R and I'm loving it. Thank you for sharing!

It is a phenomenal lens, you will have a great time with it. With lenses it is always worth buying the good ones and even with many years old a good lens will always give you great quality - this lens is definitely one of them :)
i just got the rf85F1.2 to play with. I bought the 135mm. One thing you should also add is the 135mm has the ability to use a teleconverter while the 85 does not. i have the canon 1.4 and 2x both work. The RF85 is beyond heavy. i was going to buy the 85F1.2 but i'm glad i spent it on the 135mm. what the bokeh the 135 lacks it makes up in compression/speed and weight. The 135 also has the ability to make the subject look like they are coming off the photo. Similar to how the 200F2 does it.
Amazing content... seems that if you have distance the 135 looks to be the most versatile especially if shot wide open.. I’ve a 50 f/1.2 and 135 f/2L and forsaken the 85 f/1.2 because it was so difficult to focus losing me many shoots. I get a similar look at f/1.2 on my 50 f/1.2 though I need to be closer. The “look” of the 135 f/2 is really awesome in open space. Way different then the 85. Thank you for ‘opening’ my eyes to this. I shot a 6D mk ii and a EOS R preferring the 135 on my 6D mk ll for the exact reason you point out. I love your work. Thank You from NYC. Where now unfortunately it’s most difficult to be out and enjoy our craft. Hope you are safe and well in your part of the world my friend. Tony D

Hi Tony, thank you very much for your comment and opinion. Always nice to meet like minded people :) the 50mm f1.2 is also a great lens :) right now the only person I can really photograph is myself:) you will see some more videos like this in the future, the next is probably going to be a 50mm f1.2 vs a 50mm f1.8 :)
The 85mm F1 2LII is not for everyone and let's face it, you spend all that money on this lens to shoot at F1.2 why else? This is a lens for those who learn to compose first, move the focusing point, focus on the closest eye to camera and then press that shutter. Now you must know that this lens might not need microadjustment on one camera, but problably needs it with another one. If you take your time to microadjust it with the camera in question, you will have very sharp focus from F1.2 on.... Now at that aperture you need to practice, practice, practice and then practice some more, once you got that you will be very happy with the results. I know I have no issues with mine or the 50mm F1.2L Hope I have not been disrespectful and my long comment helps someone out there having issues. This is the Holly Grail!
I had the Canon EF 135mm 2.0 L, it is a very good lens, fast focus, very sharp, crisp colors, good contrast and a good close focus. Now I have got the even better Sony 135mm 1.8 GM ;) So I will highly recommend a 135mm and maybe go for a cheaper 85mm 1.8 !
1.8 isn’t that much better than the F2 from Canon. In fact Canon’s version renders a ton of character and magic into the shots while the Sony is more on the sterile/“digital” side. Nonetheless, bot are great, I also tried Sigma’s 135mm F1.8 and i also couldn’t justify it over Canon’s mojo.
@@costinvaly1I was looking for this comment. I still keep the 85 1.4L IS & 135L for people. The rest of my nature and wildlife gears are Sony. The Bokeh of the 85L, 135L and 200L are unbeatable IMO. Sigma, Sony make faster lenses but the dreamy bokeh can’t touch those Canon’s prime.
What I'm really wondering is if the new RF85 1.2 is worth buying if I already have the 135. Using the adaper sucks sometimes lol. But it's sharp as hell. Do they compliment each other? I have the RF70-200 as well.

I find the adapter on my Eos RP works really well with any EF lens. I shoot it wide open at all times. I really like the 135mm f2.0 and find it really special. It will be a great lens for decades, just as it has been till now. Same goes for the 85 L II, the RF probably is better in everything a little bit, but clients will probably not see any difference (unless you might go for the DF version).
Hi Dirkson, I have been following your channel for few months. Awesome content. I have the 70-200mm 2.8L IS II and the 85mm 1.2L. Should I try get the 135mm 2.0L too? Is it distinctly superior wide open at 2.0 than the 70-200 around 135mm and 2.8?

Nein, die Canon Objektive funktionieren sehr zuverlässig vom Fokus her und an den neueren Kameras wie die 6dii oder RP ist das af System anders so dass Objektiv Fehler vol Fokus her nicht mehr auftreten
Dear Dirkson, When you use these lens on 6d (not the mark ii) do you use focus using "focus and recompose technique" or you focus using the focusing point (which i think not as good as the center point)? Happy 6d user here, feel better seeing after watching your past video on your 6d usage for work. Also, top respect for you on walking up on stranger and doing street photography AND holding another camera doing B rolls of your shoot.

Hi hamtairo, I always use the center focus point and recompose. It works great with the 135mm at f2.0 and the images are nearly always in focus. It is a really great lens and easy to use on any camera. The 85mm f1.2 is very difficult to focus at f1.2. The images seem sharp on the camera screen but on the computer sometimes the ears are sharp or the nose but not the face, so the 85 is better to use at f1.4 or at around f2.0 to get the eyes in focus.
You are definitely my favourite photographer around here. I have two questions please: 1. Why aren't you using the sigma art series for these two focal length instead of these canon? For example the sigma 135mm is f/1.8. 2. If you use the 85mm f/1.2L II in the camera through the OVF I guess you have some hard time trying to get things in focus at f/1.2? If so, like you mention on your video, is it easier in live view with the 6DMK2? At really f/1.2?
4 роки тому+3
Hi Charles, thanks for your feedback and questions. I have the 35mm ART lens and never really liked it. The images are great but I find it and the other art lenses too long and too front heavy. Plus the need to calibrate on older camera bodies. I never had a problem with Canon lenses in terms of AF, so I would always go to Canon prime lenses (L or no L doesn't matter). So one bad experience with the Sigma Art lens made me decide to not follow that road even though they have some great lenses (but also heavy). The 85L II is also very heavy by the way :) The 85mm at f1.2 on the older 6D is difficult to focus at f1.2 or f1.4 - a lot of hit and miss. With the 6D II though the OVF it is similar but better but still hit and miss with the fast way I do my shootings. With the Live View it is always a hit, even at f1.2 even when I shoot with one hand filming with my left hand with another camera. The live view with face detection works so great that any lens (also my sigma 35 f1.4 art lens) works kind of 100% correct wide open for portraits. The 85mm f1.2 is easy to use at f1.2 now on the 6D II in live view as well as on the R or RP. Looking at the price of the 6DII which is now nearly half of its starting price when it came out 3 years ago, you can buy it now, use it for 2 years and sell it without much loss kind of.
@perfect. Thanks for your reply. Although I have the 6D which bought a year or so, also used, I am also considering the MK2 or the EOS R when the other mirrorless cameras from canon starts to pop on the market and the used market starts to get flooded by used EOS R's. I am still practicing with my beautiful 85mm f/1.2L II on my 6D and I am kinda starting to get used to her mood and getting some nice hits at f/1.2. the images look so dreamy, yummy yummy. Thanks again for sharing your experience. It is very good to know that with the 6DII the lenses works great at f/1.2. Have a good one. Cheers

The 100mm macro is a fantastic lens and the results look similar to the 135mm lens. You may find a couple of videos on my channel with the 100mm L lens and I enjoyed that one a lot. I'd be happy with the 100mm f2.8 L lens if I didn't have the 135mm and 85mm L lens - it is that good.
don't shoot portraits with macro , less bokeh , more sterile , only 135 or 85 for portraits, 135 preffered because of less distortion when close , and because of compression
question can i do headshots in studio with the 135 and if so how far do i have to back up about 6ft
3 роки тому+2
The 135 L is best used outdoors to get that blurry background, indoors it can be limiting, depending on the size of the room. It works and complements really well a 50 or 35mm lens in the studio, the 35/50 for full body, the 135mm for face only.

I have seen comparisons between the 135L and the 70-200 f2.8 and the results looked very similar which speaks for the versatile quality of the zoom lens. But I had a 70-200 f4 L and haven't touched it after I got the 135L. The 135 is small, fast, f2.0, has a good price point and delivers always great images. The 70-200 is more versatile, bigger, heavier but f2.8 and you have sometimes too many options with zooms. As you have the 85 the 135 will be very similar. But you can of course try it to see if that could be an addition or a replacement of another lens.

please put the image side by side so we can see the differences directly.. and don't too much words, to make review more simple
Hahahah wtf is wrong with that beard line
Hi Dirkson, I have been following your channel for few months. Awesome content. I have the 70-200mm 2.8L IS II and the 85mm 1.2L. Should I try get the 135mm 2.0L too? Is it distinctly superior wide open at 2.0 than the 70-200 around 135mm and 2.8?
I have seen comparisons between the 135L and the 70-200 f2.8 and the results looked very similar which speaks for the versatile quality of the zoom lens. But I had a 70-200 f4 L and haven't touched it after I got the 135L. The 135 is small, fast, f2.0, has a good price point and delivers always great images. The 70-200 is more versatile, bigger, heavier but f2.8 and you have sometimes too many options with zooms. As you have the 85 the 135 will be very similar. But you can of course try it to see if that could be an addition or a replacement of another lens.
