Proper maintenance is key to keeping your skid steer or compact track loader in top working condition. This video shows how to change the engine oil and filter on the Cat Skid Steer Loader and Compact Track Loader.
I myself am currently changing the filter on my 259D and this has to be the dumbest thing I have ever encountered with a Cat product! Good job Cat design team!
It's a tad better in the 249D3, I feel you guys tho. This was insane.
For the oil filter:
Take the positive ( red ) cable off the battery and push it to the side. Makes a world of difference taking the filter off.
Very helpful ,thank you
Maybe they made the filter removal/install difficult so people will just take their machines to the dealer.

They need to make a kit to relocate the engine oil filter to a more accessible location. I would buy it! I have a 289 D and I usually pull the battery which is also not easy to remove!
Take the positive (red) cable off the battery and push it to the side. Makes it 10× easier.
Thanks
I always have to remove my battery since there’s no space where the filter goes.
I cant find anything on how to remove my battery on my catapillar 226b2 can you help I have terminals off and battery wont budge.

Oil filter should be in an easier location, serviceability is easier than most except bobcat seems
my used skidsteer cat 272d2 came without an access plate and after getting rid of a ton of dirt that had gotten into the compartment and cleaning it all out, I can't seem to find the right size for the two bolts that mount the new plate I cut. Do you know what size bolts these are? I assume they are metric as the two types of SAE bolts I have with right diameter don't seem to thread on. Thanks in advance!

@@catconstructiontrade So you are implying there is a kit available now?
a better video would be showing the engineer and his boss that approved putting a oil filter in a location so hard to get to doing this oil change . the machine is almost perfect A+ . the oil filter placement could have been made better C- .
syclone73 you are too kind with C grade...... I thought I was going to have to remove the battery! Disappointed with CAT.
In_process I always remove the battery for more space
And his boss with a big thumb up while engineer refils engine oil with no funnel, and the little oil spill that went with it. All good and proper.
geez they make it difficult enough to get the filter off
Nice
