I just wanted to let you know that I got my boat running today thanks to your videos. I had to rebuild the low pressure pump due to a collapsed gasket and replace the high pressure pump cause it stopped pumping. But when I turned the key tonight and I heard that high pressure pump kick on I just knew it was going to start. Cranked for maybe 1.5 seconds and lit up like a beast. Thanks for the videos, they were a huge help.

where does the fuel hose coming from the fuel tank connect to the motor I have a 1996 Mariner Super Magnum and I took the hoses off of the oil in the fuel here or two or go and now I can't remember where they go thank you
Wondering if you had to seat the new pump in the top of the assembly and stayed in place or would it fall out if you didn’t hold it while assembling it
Trying to remember, but I think it stayed in place ok. Only thing that gave me trouble was keeping the seal in place that goes between the lid and the canister.
Put a new one in and I’m having some fuel leakage around the insulator caps. Orings look like could be bad but my next question is if there should even be any fuel that would come out of the insulator caps
Hello my fuel pump won’t kick on I noticed my ground wire is not getting any power I moved the ground wire to a new location and it got power but the pump is still not working. I have a 1996 super magnum mariner.
It maybe have shorted your pump out with the faulty connection. Can you hook it straight to different 12v battery on your work bench and see if you can get it to make a noise?
What were the issues that you were having? The boat I'm working on w an 06 mercury optimax 125 will run for about 30 to 40 min then die like if the key was turned off. Then won't restart for a couple of hours. Also the one plug going to it gets really hot to the touch. Any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated.
Mine would die just like someone shut the key off. My fuel bulb would be empty. Once I pumped it up it would fire right back up. Similar to another comment I got yesterday. Yours doesn’t sound fuel related, but more electrical. Sounds like the Stator which can cause several symptoms.
Hey I’m diagnosing this issue right now. With the key on I get 12v to the pump, I hear no noise, and the schraeder valve dribbles the tiniest drops of fuel. Sounds like the high pressure pump right?
Oh crap, my bad, need to delete that, I responded to the wrong comment. Yeah that does sound like it is dead and not holding pressure. Is your fuel bulb empty too or still have fuel in it?
@stemhead do you know if there is any fuel in the high pressure pump canister? Hard to exactly decipher because they work together. That low pressure pump is going to put the fuel in the high pressure tank so the high pressure tank can distribute it. It sounds like the high pressure, but if you take the tank canister lid off and there is no fuel in it, it’s most likely the low pressure pump.
I got some gas in my tank. Milky white thick stuff came out of the high fuel pressure tank. Am I screwed or would I be able to flush it out? Thank you for your videos.
Man I’m not sure. Don’t know why your fuel would be that off color. Can you dump your fuel, re-fill (non-ethanol), run you boat again and see what you have after that. Milky fuel isn’t good, just don’t know what it means yet
@@PrestigeWorldwideFishing I’m sorry I may have said this wrong. So Inside the high pressure fuel tank that your replacing in this video. That’s where this milky substance is coming from. I believe water was in my gas and may have mixed with oil inside this .

Thank you it was hot. I accidentally bumped it against the motor while putting the tank back on and it sparked since I just bought the boat. I didn’t know if it was supposed to be hot with the key off so now I have a question do I need to fill it with gas before I hook that wire up as it will start to prime and maybe burn the pump up, any thoughts?
@skippy7545 yeah I bet that scared you a little. no you don’t need to put gas in it. You will be able to pump your fuel bulb until the tank is full or has enough gas to start the motor.
Hi, i have 1996 v200 efi mercury. Im having similar issues with my motor. My motor will start but will shut off after about 1 min. I have to pump the primer bulb to get it started again. It will die again if i dont continue to pump the primer bulb. So far i have rebuilt the low pressure fuel pump, new fuel pick up, new primer bulb and new fuel/water seprator fillter. Im running out of options. Im wondering if the high pressure pump has anything to do with my issue? Maybe the regulator? Also, i plan to start with just the strainer that is attached to the fuel pump since my fuel pump is $900 dollars. What other gaskets or seals will i need to replace once im in there? Any suggestions would be helpful. Thank you
That sounds like a high pressure pump issue to me. Surly they make a cheaper fuel pump for your boat then that right? You will need a new gasket that goes between the top of the fuel pump case and the bottom. The big one under the lid… not sure how to describe it. It’s really the only seal/gasket that isn’t on the actual fuel pump itself. Good luck!
Hello, did the aftermarket pump work well for you? I have read that some folks get alarms from high amps on the non -OEM pumps. I am looking at a Quantum pump, just curious about your results. Thanks
I’ve been trying to diagnose what’s going on with mine. Runs great at idle but in gear it won’t get up on plane, loses power and tries to bog down. I plan on replacing the high pres pump and low pres pump and seeing if that resolves anything. Already replaced voltage regulators because they were burnt up.
@ryanlogue3029 before you do that, watch my voltage regulator video and make sure yours doesn’t do what mine did first. Sounds more like you have a stator issue… for your sake I hope it is. Mine was ECU issue. Fuel pump issue usually means your motor will just shut off not bog down. Email me if you want, would be happy to help you diagnose and avoid spending a bunch of money.
I'm wondering if this is the pump that was causing me an issue today. Today was our fish off and it was 30 degrees when I got the boat off of the trailer. I tried to let my motor idle to warm up and it would cut off after about 15-45 seconds of running the motor. If you went and pumped the bulb by hand, it would sometimes keep running. I noticed whenever I turned the key on that I wasn't getting the whirring noise or whatever it makes when the fuel pump or something turns on. I replaced a fuse under the cowling and it didnt change any thing. Once I got home I messed with it some and I found one fuse that was at the battery. I changed it out and messed with a few other things. When I went back to turn the key on, I could hear the normal whirring type sound from what I believe is the fuel pump. I have no clue if the fuse tripped because it was so cold or if the pump is just going out.
@PrestigeWorldwideFishing I figured out what it was I believe. I had reconnected the line at the fuel bulb because there was a small drop. Whenever I reconnected the bulb it pushed the lining and obstructed the fuel line. I replaced the line today and saw the obstruction. I also cut it open and the lining had sucked itself flat past the obstruction. So it wasn't getting enough fuel to run for long
@PrestigeWorldwideFishing I had a feeling that could have been the issue. I've had the same thing happen a few times with my old bass tracker. The sad part is that 2 mechanics told me at the lake that it was a fuel pump that went bad... I had time to run to the auto parts store for a bulb and hose while we were under a fog delay but they said that wouldn't fix it. But we still ended up doing better than 80 percent of the field in the tournament so it worked out regardless
So I am actually currently having this same issue with my 1999 Mercury 150 efi. I switched out my low pressure fuel pump like you and I am still not getting gas pumped into the engine after it is primed. Was this high pressure pump your solution?
I can’t say for certain yet, but I’ve gone out one time since installing high pressure pump, and the issue didn’t occur. I’m hopeful it is fixed, although I still want to run it a couple more times before I believe it.
Motor would stall, sometimes while driving, most of the time just wouldn’t start. The fuel bulb would be completely flat. I would pump it up and engine would fire and be fine for awhile.
