When Jamie read the note, I cried so much the first time. Just the pure kindness of Ted to go out of his way and do that. Also, it was so American in his phrasing, (way to make the final pass) I feel like it was a way to establish his difference as a person to Jamie but also reinforce his wholesomeness.
its so refreshing to see such kindness, hope and the goodness in humanity in this comedy series. Its a shame how frequently mankind is portrayed as selfish & hateful in so many movies and series. Life is messy and we are all in the school of life, but kindness is a worthwhile attribute that comes naturally to us as kids and can be cultivated at any age. :0)
Lovely ending to the first season. Not enough people talk about that little scene where Ted walks past Jamie and his dad. In that little moment, both Ted and us viewers immediately feel for Jamie and understand why he’s been such a dick this past season. That look him and Ted share is so real and I love it.
Ted handled this really well. One part that doesn’t get touched on enough is that he knew to address the 2 people who were hurting the most from this, Roy and Zorro. As the goalie, Zorro must be blaming himself a lot for their loss, and Roy’s age and injury likely made this his last game. Ted knew they were hurting most and wanted them to take pride in the good they accomplished. That’s a great coach.
Nick, you’re absolutely correct. I played American football through college. Then I played rugby football so I have so many UK friends and understand their passion for football/soccer. As a consequence, my UK friends and I love this show. Aside from my actual real world job, I coach American football. The impact that good coaching has is remarkable. On the backend, when they’ve given everything they’ve got, it’s my job to let them know that they played their guts out. It’s leadership. Many years ago, in my little Canadian town, my 10 year old son’s football team had a chance to experience coaching from a former professional footballer under a programme sponsored by Manchester United football academy…his name, if I remember correctly, was Robin Van der Laan, and as I’d lived in the UK for many years but didn’t follow football closely, except for the high-profile games, I asked him about his career during a short conversation at the end of the coaching session….he told me he scored the winning goal for one of the clubs he played for, Derby, that allowed them to be promoted to the Premiere football league….that one goal, he said, “well basically, I never paid for another round in the Derby area pubs after that…”. That illustrated to me how important football is to many people in UK…..

This is one of the most bittersweet moments of the entire series, and easily the best ending to a season on tv. *SPOILERS AHEAD* Putting my psychoanalysis hat on, this scene really portrays the emphasis of what having a support circle means to you. On one side of the scale, you have Ted receiving messages from his (soon-to-be) ex-wife and son reminding him that they are proud of all he’s achieved, and he passes that same message on to the team, focusing on the future rather than dwelling on the loss. It really plays into his personality of the optimist that Ted brings to his character; even in what can only be described as the lowest point of the club. And on the other side of the scale, you have Jamie who, not only alienated his former teammates, but is very pessimistic and can’t even celebrate the big moments. Winning the league and being part of the game-winner should fill you with joy and happiness… and yet he feels alone and undeserving all because his dad is a piece of work who doesn’t express his happiness and proudness of Jamie. I like that the scene shows Ted receiving support messages, only to immediately mirror Ted in Jamie being berated. I think it also interestingly touches on the value of father figures in life. Where Jamie always had his dad putting him down, Ted lost his father at a young age and aspired to be not only better, but to pass on the life lessons he learned as a child and also in the absence of his father. Ted is such a likeable guy that even someone who’s against Ted, no matter how misguided they are, he WANTS to help them. It’s like he said at one point in the series. “for me, success is not about the wins and losses. It's about helping these young fellas be the best versions of themselves on and off the field.” And to end it with a scene of someone showing Jamie some love and support, Jamie’s actor did a great job portraying the emotions. You can see him on the verge of crying after seeing the toy figure. This was cinematic brilliance
Oh wow I thought I was the only one! When we lost, I remembered Ted's words - that there is something worse than being sad, and that's being alone and sad. And with my family around me, I was sad - but not alone.
I think S1 was better cause none of us had any expectations. We had no idea what the show was about to offer and it genuinely surprised eveyone (football fan or otherwise).

United in such a bad shape if you rather😂
😂😂
We have Sir Rangnick now
😂🤣🤣🤣
Hahaha almost got sent to the conference league this season
Not sure how this show keeps making me cry
Watched this scene probably six times and only now noticed that Rebecca is sitting next to Sam. (Look at how she looks at him from 2:52 to 3:06.)How many little hints and Easter eggs did the writers leave us?!
And also it's hard to spot but at 2:40 she has her arm around his shoulder (her thumb sticks out between Sam and Higgins)
lol, yeah a little foreshadowing there
Such a great show!
This is one of the most bittersweet moments of the entire series, and easily the best ending to a season on tv.
*SPOILERS AHEAD*
Putting my psychoanalysis hat on, this scene really portrays the emphasis of what having a support circle means to you.
It's about helping these young fellas be the best versions of themselves on and off the field.”
And to end it with a scene of someone showing Jamie some love and support, Jamie’s actor did a great job portraying the emotions. You can see him on the verge of crying after seeing the toy figure.
This was cinematic brilliance
100% this.
Little did we know this love letter to jamie made us love him haha. This show is awesome
This scene!!!!! Oh my God😢😢😢😢😢😢
Any fellow Niner fans watching this after the Super Bowl? 🙋🏽♂️
Oh wow I thought I was the only one! When we lost, I remembered Ted's words - that there is something worse than being sad, and that's being alone and sad. And with my family around me, I was sad - but not alone.
As a Lions fan I listened to this version of this song after you beat us lol
its bollocks but about 20 years ago I was part of the manchester cup youth tournament and lost in the semis, felt like this I get it. walk on.
1:12 - damn, i missed this when i saw the series. Jamie knew that Ted saw that whole thinkg with his Dad.
The first season for me is much better than the sec' causes its More dramatic and shows what the supporters can't see.
S2 focus on silly scenes only.
I think S1 was better cause none of us had any expectations. We had no idea what the show was about to offer and it genuinely surprised eveyone (football fan or otherwise).
I'm gonna rehearse for when Plymouth go down to League One
dont you have to get out of the bottom league first?
after today Plymouth's fate is sealed, the team needs a better manager( not a former great player posing as a manager)
the only time that everyone was united
Pretty fitting for YNWA to be used here, especially with Man City being the villains 😂
Worst feeling in the world being relegated, more so for the fans....
This hits different as both Ted Lasso/RIchmond and Liverpool fan

So I watch this with my wife I support Norwich City.....after Norwich lost 6-0 so Richmond needed a draw and this scene happened.
'Is this show based on Norwich?'
Fellow Canary. They should do a Delia cameo w. Rebecca at some point season 3
As a Norwich fan across the pond, why you gotta do me like this.
Such an ending
I'm looking for a new series to watch. I need an honest opinion: Is this show worth watching? Serious question.
