I have a huge tank (dont know the size I found it on the side of the road and I couldnt pick it up by myself) that housed at ONE point 3 female and 1 male guppy. I now have 48 guppies from them breeding within 4 generations. Anyways I never used a pump or filter but I did add alot of real plants that grow roots in water (such as pothos) and plenty of hiding places. I'm guessing over time they built their own ecosystem and they've been fine, havent lost one yet. It's a real b to clean tho since I have to remove all the fishes individually and drain the water and bring the hose inside to fill it back up but it's a nice relaxing time I get to spend with them and they seem happy.
thankyou for giving me the idea that if the mosquito larvae start to born its safe it really amaze me because the other video that i watch they didn't add that thats really helpful ty sir
even if you only change 10% water in a week, it will be safe, guppies are hardy fish and old waters are healthy for the fish too, since it will create an ecosystem in the tank
nice vid would also suggest putting lava rocks/sand/gravel (minimizes maintenance) substrate and floating plants like water lettuce to help minimize ammonia and nitrate and for ectrta shade as well
Thanks for sharing. I bought few guppies before and they didn't thrive bc i used freshwater and didn't add some salt. I only found out when they are already dead. But currently im raising few molly fry in pure freshwater. I think they're used to the water unlike the fishes that i bought from the petshop.
when you say freshwater, do you mean tap water? guppies will thrive in freshwater, it’s their natural environment, if you use tap water instead the chlorine will kill them. maybe you didn’t dechlorinate your water.
Sounds to me like the water hardish was off! they like harder water parameters so if you have just set that tank up or only had it going for a few weeks chances are its just not cycled enough or ph is waaaaaaay off. Guppys are freshwater fish you can keep them in sightly brackish water but ideally a cycled freshwater setup with ph at about 7 to 7.5 is best. The salt is optional to. really depends on how you are starting the cycle of that tank
Thank you so much for putting this video up I want to make a mini pond and this helps with keeping the fish thrieving and looking beautiful in the habitat
thank u so much. it really helps me making decision to raise guppy in tub....i have a smaller place in my house. you now have a new subscriber and follower...
You could add some potting soil and cap it with sand to fro more plants like water sprites and pearl weed, you should also add some floating plants like water lettuce bc in some areas like where I live it’s full of hawks and fish eating birds
Hi I have few questions if you don't mind; 1. What are those white stuff? 2. Is that kitchen salt or aquarium salt? 3. Is the salt safe for water plants? 4. What if I use de-chlorine instead waiting for the white stuff and mosquito larvae appear? UPDATE I: I've try and it works! I added some water lettuce, water hyacinth, and hornworth and put the tub outdoor (partial sun). The lettuce grows like crazy and the guppies are healthy. Thanks! UPDATE II: The guppies are breeding like crazy too. I have to make few more tubs to house the fry!

Hey buddy am happy to find your vid recommendation. I'm a newbie fish keeper and ordered 4 guppies n single Platy fish to keep in a big bowl. But you commented to someome saying Platy males r aggressive, so my question are as following, kindly respond. 1. Is it ok to keep guppies n platy/platys together? 2. Can i keep both in similar set up you just showed without filter, inside house?
i will help answering it 1. yes you can put male platties on a communal tank, aggression on communal tanks by male platties are rare but if it happen, just make sure you separate the aggressive platy ( and put them back after about 3 days ) or increase the volume of the tank for bigger area 2. it is better for you to put these outdoor, so sunlight could hit the plants and make the fishes healthy, outdoor air is also better than indoor, if you want to make this indoor, you could use air pump or increase the number of plants for oxygen supply, thanks
@@kentjoy8996 Thank you so much for your guidance. I have put the Platys and 1 swordfish in the communal tank which had few tetra widows. As of now there's no aggression seen from any side. Hope for the best 😁 About the guppy big bowl, i will add a air pump soon since i need to keep it inside. Also have put 4 diff plants inside which hopefully will help keep it healthy for the guppies till i get air pump.
What are the normal Temps day and night where you live im just wondering because I live in canada I'm think of maybe moving some out for the summer like this.
Avoid using it. Its not really healthy for the fish... if you dont have plants, then its ok. Just try it without plants just make sure you provide them lots of space..
This is very interesting. I’ve currently got guppy fry ranging from 1-3months of age, but they’re in my community tank until they’re big enough to have taken off my hands. I would like to do something like this to finish growing them out and keep some back for myself outdoors…would it be safe for the older fry? Also what temperature should you keep them the at? I’m in Cumbria in the UK and we don’t always have great weather, so Is it safe when temperature drops etc. what’s the lowest temperature they can go to without issues? Thank you 😊
@@albertsguppyadventure4293 I thought you were in a warmer country. I was surprised when they were living outside, I was wondering what temperature your water gets to outside?. To create a ecosystem, you need to have substrate, shelter for fish, plants, filter, pump, flow maker etc.
