Schools of Thought in Psychology - Evolutionary Psychology

Many of the approaches discussed previously are structuralist accounts of the mind mind. They focus on the 'what' and 'how' questions of human consciousness (e.g., What situations change behavior? How do we make decisions?). The one approach that takes a functionalist approach is evolutionary psychology, which asks why we have certain cognitive faculties and mental processes. Evolutionists see traits and behaviors to be adaptive responses to evolutionarily-driven problems, and therefore these traits serve a survival function for us.
