I was pissed when LA traded Gabe Vilardi. But your words, THG - "Vilardi needs to play a full season". Yeah. We heard that a fair amount in LA. Thanks for the video.
One thing about Chevy is he will not make a trade until he feels he’s getting fair return. He is very patient. He could out wait McGroarty.
I have a soft spot for Winnipeg being the "smallest market" in the NHL apparently. Hope they do well and stay there for a long time!
Lambert far more ready than barlow
The Jets have a very good regular season roster and can do well in games where they can rely on their team skill, but come playoff time they lack the necessary grit to force their will on opponents. We have seen the Jets get physically dominated by Vegas and Calgary in recent years in the post season. We only need to look at recent Cup winners to realize they have a ton of grit and can grind other teams right down. Florida are the perfect mix of skill and grit. The same went for the Vegas team the year before. After the Jets lost Byfuglien, Trouba and Kulikov the backend has never been the same, but that is what took them to the conference finals in 2018.
Chevy will be patient with McGoarty. I think they will wait until the training camp to see what they have under the revamped coaching staff. But they need to bring up their prospects as a lot of the vets were blocking them. Go Jets!,
Jets also have the lowest Corporate to peasant season ticket holders in the league by a long shot. That is a big issue. Most teams are 50/50. I think Jets only have like 15% of seats bought by corporations
That's true, only 15% corporate tickets.
The next lowest in Canada is 45%.
Big problem because they fell below 9,500 season ticket holders this past season & that is a 25% drop over the last 5 seasons.
Been howling at the moon for 3 seasons that they're overplaying Connor H during the season, and he's burned out come playoff time. Who knows, maybe he refuses to give up the net, take a break etc. No offence to Lowry, but he's not a 2C. They have to find some way to fill that gaping hole. Letting Dillon just leave was a surprise, they might regret that. Jets look poised to take a step back. Preds will be much improved in the Central, so Jets look to be in a wild card fight.
He wasn’t this past season they had LB
I'm sure the Jets made offers to Dillon, Monahan & others but they saw better places to play elsewhere.
They didn't just let him leave without an offer.
Can perfetti play #2C?
60 starts is simply ludicrous. No reason he's over 55 and ideally he's nearer 50.
I’d like to see the Jets finally capitalize on some great regular seasons. I used to go to Thrashers games in Atlanta when the team was almost always turrible. Show up Jets fans and bring back a Thrashers alt sweater.
I don't think they will ever use the Thrashers logo but a Jets jersey in Thrathers colors could be a good nod.
The Jets need top 4 ride side defenseman paired with Morrissey
Great video! I do worry about scoring consistently with the top nine, they get very hot and cold during the season at times. Losing Ehlers probably doesn’t help with that. I would love to see more mobility on the backend. They had problems getting stuck in their own zone and with break out passes the second half of the season and in the playoffs. Maybe the addition of some young players will help to fix both problems.
They were crazy not playing Brossoit more. Then they let him walk ??
Thr Jets need to give Perfetti & Heinola a proper opportunity to show what they can do this year, even if it means taking a hit in the standings. I'm expecting a step back anyway and the Jets will be fightng for a wild card spot.
Chevy finding a decent 2C is really important as well!
@@gregdyck6479 I think the fans will accept a team fighting for a wildcard if Henola, and maybe lambert / chibrikov are given an opportunity.
There is almost 0 chance Barlow plays with the jets this year. And he can’t play with the moose until his OHL season is done, so he’ll likely be in the OHL and then play with the moose at the end of the year again. He’d have to have an incredible camp to make the jets roster this upcoming year
I agree, highly unlikely Barlow plays for the Jets this upcoming season, but not impossible. He will be a Moose though, his OHL days are behind him now.

Brad Lambert played one NHL game last season & you have him as a 2nd line C?
If they can get their goalie to play a few less games maybe he won’t be gassed and lit up in the playoffs again.
Big downgrade in back up goaltending from last season, unlikely he'll play less.
@@sameold5050 exactly. Very odd and stupid of them. But the season hasn’t started yet, so there’s still time I suppose.
@@baohoaily It’s tempting to say that Connor Hellebuyck needs to stop more of the shots that he faces in postseason games, but that would completely ignore how putrid the team in front of him has during the last nine playoff games defended. How is allowing at least four goals per game going to lead to anything but disaster? That’s partly on the lack of defensive responsibility.
Of those Canadian NHL teams that last season qualified for playoff action and, just in the 1st round, when having allowed:
- under 3 goals, the record of the:
- Leafs was 3-1 (0-3 in other games)
- Canucks was 3-1 (1-1 in other games)
- Oilers was 2-0 (2-1 otherwise)
- at least 4 goals, the record of the:
- Oilers was 1-1
- Jets was 1-4
- Canucks, 0-1
- Leafs, 0-2
That of Canadian teams that qualified, the Jets’ 20.0 winning % was the 2nd-highest was remarkable when having allowed 4 or more goals but by far the Jets played more games during which they had allowed at least 4 goals than any of the remaining Canadian teams. Indeed, while the Canucks, Oilers and Leafs combined to play 5 games during which they had allowed at least 4 goals, the Jets, just on their own played that many relevant games. I just have to ask myself how soon fans and observers of the Jets can expect their defence to make that bigger step forward in the postseason. The Jets after all, following their 2018 conference final appearance, have:
- only played one pair of consecutive games during which they have allowed under three goals, and that was in a May 2021 playoff series against the Oilers when they had beaten those Oilers 4-1 and 1-0, over at Rogers Place (also home to the Oil Kings of the Western Hockey League), to take a 2-0 series lead en route to a sweep of that series
- played, among games during which they’ve allowed:
- at least 4 goals:
-- 9 games just during the past 2 postseasons (1-8 record)
-- 4 games in 2021 (2-2)
-- 3 games in 2020 (0-3)
-- 1 game in 2019 (0-1)
-- 17 games total (3-14)
- 3 goals:
-- 1 game in 2021 (0-1)
-- 3 games in 2019 (1-2)
- at least 3 goals, 21 games (4-17)
- no more than 2 goals, 7 games (5-2)
I haven’t been wowed by any acquisition the Jets have made following the loss of their spring playoff series against the Avs. As much as the 20 24-25 angel regular season isn’t set to begin until October, I have to wonder if the Jets will have more playoff success this coming spring than they did last spring. Unless they make bigger changes to their roster, I don’t hold out much hope.
@@wainber1 well as a Leafs fan and Jets fan in your situation. Just hope for a lucky run like the Caps and win when no one expected it.
@@sameold5050 Time will tell if Eric Comrie or ex-Shark Kaapo Kähkönen will provide enough quality backup goaltending for the Jets will need to give Connor Hellebuyck a better chance of not being, as the Canucks‘ Thatcher Demko was, come:
- last postseason, gassed, with:
- Demko having gone down to injury after the first game his team had played
- Hellebuyck having been available to play but having been lit up
- the beginning of the 2022-23 regular season, so injury-prone that he would need to miss almost 3 months due to a series of lower-body injuries that had occurred in an early-December game against the Panthers
I think Lambert will for sure be our 2C in the 2025-2026 season. But i hope they kinda rotate him in and out of there throughout this season, depending on how he plays.
I also think we should trade Mcgroarty for a youngish NHL ready RHD like David Jiricek or something (But idk how good of a return Rutger is gonna get, so we might need to add Chaz Lucius or draft picks)
Will be glad to see Lambert on the team, but I see no indication he is better than Perfetti.
It sucks. The best way to show your displeasure with the management & ownership of your favourite team is lowered attendance. But with Canadian teams you'll immediately hear threats of moving the the team from officials of the NHL ownership group. If it's a U.S. based teams experiencing the same thing, it would take 10-15 years before those threats start being mentioned.
Scoring depth? Good Top 9? Those centers behind Scheifele looks pretty weak to me.
Not terrible centre depth but their wingers are excellent
@@justbleedprod.9414 A team with excellent wingers wouldn't have acquired Toffoli.
@@RandomPlaceHolderName scuse me? They added a veteran 30 goal scorer with a history of being a playoff performer and sat players out who would be top six on most other teams. Scratch your head
@@joeont Perfetti? Please, you're only reinforcing my point.
Adding a dman Luke Matheson from Montreal could really help the jets offense.
They need a V Throckek type fwd and a puck moving d man to compliment their big guys
Thanks Shannon.
As a Jets fan, I appreciate your thoughts on the team. I am also a 1/4 seasons client for the 1st time, other years I have just gotten smaller ticket packages to support the team.
Really good team, until Xmas then the annual fall begins plus they are not built for the playoffs. Not much grit.
I wonder if anyone is a fan of just the Winnipeg Jets and the New York Jets.
Tell me you don’t pay attention to the jets without telling me you don’t pay attention to the jets.
Barlow is probably still 2 years away at least. Lambert should be in the opening night lineup as well as Heinola & potentially Salomonsson. Perfetti getting much more opportunity will be huge
I think the Jets were slowed down by the lack of will to address the special teams situation throughout the last season. If that would have been fixed, at least in the second part of the season, they would have went on a longer playoff run.
I'm looking at that lineup and I wonder where they'd shove Laine there? I think the best he's played was with Scheif and... Ehlers?, but Connor is there now. Of course if Vilardi (or has Perfetti played center?) could take the 2nd line center duties and push Lowry to his "right" spot in 3rd, Connor-Scheifele-Laine could maybe score some goals. But how many would they be scored against?
I'm looking forward to the start of the season. My feeling is, if you make the playoffs, you have a shot at Lord Stanley's hardware. My Jets will compete for a playoff spot.
I have no idea which of the youngsters make the leap from the Moose, or at what point of the season.
I feel both Ehlers and McGroarty get traded, but I have no idea again at which point. Cheveldayoff is as patient as Job so I wouldn't be surprised if they moved at the deadline.
If they can get over the hump
And how and what defence they put in
Just getting to the playoffs is not good enough. This team has 3 series win in 13 seasons. They need a team built for the playoffs. Not the regular season. The fact is that every time this team faces adversity in the playoffs, they fold. That photo taken of the Jets' and Avs' benches was very telling. Every Avs player was engaged and focused on the coach. And Jets players were staring off into space.
I have more of a fantasy trade in mind that'll never happen: McGroarty and Pionk to the Blue Jackets for Laine with 3 million cap retention. Maybe toss in a 2nd rounder to sweeten the deal.
Missing all the D the did sign to play 5 and 6 spot
Reminder - Winnipeg Jets finished 4/32 last year in the regular season.
Doesn't mean much.
Their play in the last two playoffs was a disaster.
They have real problems elevating their game in the post season.
Did they get a trophy for that? No. It's about the playoffs. And once again, in the playoffs, this team did not elevate their game. This team is only built for the regular season. When the playoffs come, when they face adversity, they fold.
@@pomerlain8924 Yes, it’s called the William M. Jennings Trophy
@@MBMusicGeek A trophy for allowing the least goals against during the season. Didn't matter in the playoffs, did it?
GO JETS GO!
I'm worried about us going into the new season. I would quite like us to get Laine though.
I think the Jets will sign Ehlers to a 4-year deal worth $6.25 or $6.5 million contract before the end of the first month of the regular season. That is, if he really wants to stay in the Jets organization.
This team is begging for Perfetti to become the star player he was projected to be when he was drafted.
He should be the new second line centre!!
I doubt if the Jets will ever be a contender. I predict that in five years the team will be sold and moved .
Throw lambo in the 2nd line and get a decent top 4 defensmen that's all we need
Maybe they trade Rutger to San Jose and take back couture to fill in the second line center, with other peices involved in the trade. Could be worth it if it helps the jets be more competitive
Ellers had less minutes playing then the first line
Definitely a team that needs a shakeup. Improving their backup goaltending, defence, and changing out a couple forwards. This team should be doing more than making head coaches want to quit hockey after the playoffs every season. It feels like they never really recovered from getting their blueline plundered for a few years in a row.
Poink definitely
“And then it gets kinda of ugly “😅
I am a huge Lambert believer. He has the potential to be a superstar
The blue line is key, Heinola needs to step up, I think Miller will surprise and help. But IMO, Salomonsson is their best prospect, I think he will prove to be an All Star caliber Dman, Calder mentions, and will be a finalist!! Book it. If that happens, Jets are in the hunt. Lambert will be 2nd line C by playoffs, Chevy WILL outwait Rutger. He will play and flourish in the Peg for years. Book it!!
I’m a fan of the Jets, I don’t think they will make the playoffs. They got worse the middle and lost Monahan. Ehlers is a good seasonal player but he’s built for the playoffs. Loosing a LB in the pipes and replacing him with combrie is not the answer. Helly has problems in the playoffs not stealing games.
As a Jets fan *THE ONLY MOVE* I expect Chevy to make the rest of the offseason is to extend Perfetti...
Also, Pionk looked good this past season? *WHEN?! He looked ass 24/7!*
As for why they can't take the next step isn't it obvious? Lack of overall depth, weak defense...and of course too weak mentally to take the steps when the going gets tough
Edit: And Kyle Connor should *NEVER* touch that first line!
No audio?
I think the Jets are a team that could surprise in the playoffs. It would take a concretive hot streak by a number of players and an outstanding performance by Hellebuyck but it has happened in the past.
I wish I was able to attend Jets games in person. Fans who are able to attend a home game are so fortunate.
The only surprise would be if they could get past round 1.
Going into this season as the roster is now they got weaker not stronger.
More empty seats at Canada Life Centre than ever before.
They should trade Ehlers to Buffalo and I'm not just saying that cause I'm a Sabres fan.
@cdfmmcc That's tempting. Maybe add some future considerations.
The center depth looks limited especially if Scheifele is your star at center. I do like the top nine forwards but don't love em. Someone from the Jets prospect pool : Lambert, Lucius, Barlow has to make the team and has to contribute to get me excited. Perfetti has to add something. kupari?
Great work getting out from under Dubois. I'd like to see that rewarded.
Not really sure this team is going to be able to generate enough offense to be competitive, especially if they do trade Ehlers (Assuming they get similar production from players that they did last year). There's a massive dropoff in points on the 2nd line here after Ehlers with 61... Even if Vilardi can play a full season and put up 60+ points, with Ehlers gone, everyone on their 2nd line is a 35-40ish point player. That's concerning IMO. Maybe they have a prospect or two that can fill in and surprise but still... I'm just not sure how this top 9 stacks up against other playoff teams.
They'll make the playoffs
When they made the conference finals in 2018 they also had a 40 goal scoring Patrik Laine and Paul Stastny as the #2 center who had good chemistry with the team. So naturally they went full Jets and traded Stastny after that season.. So that’s where they have a big hole to fill.
@fiftyin07 Stastny wasn't traded. He left for Vegas as a UFA
Stastny wasn't traded. He wasn't re-signed. And that shows that the organization wasn't committed to building off the success of that season. That was a chance to go all in, and take some swings in free agency. Instead, it was the status quo. They don't offer a good contract to Stastny, and they just filled some needs. And when the season started, Brian Little was the 2C. Ownership and Chevy seem more committed to loyalty and the bottomline than they are to actually building a legit contender.
Shannon, the issue with season tickets is that they were sold to individuals who bought in groups who had to commit to long-term. They also totally neglected corporate ticket support . That should turn around, but with most professional sports, you have to win to put fans in the seats. Manitobans historically don't support losers
They haven't been losers. They were a good team in 2022-23. If ticket sales are low again this year, things could get ugly.
@@TheHockeyGuy
They've been losers in the playoffs, 2 wins in the last 10 playoff games.
That's when it counts, a good record in the regular season isn't so relevant if they play lousy in the playoffs.

But hey, don't stop believin'.
I honestly don't see my team being contenders next season. Maybe 3 - 4 years from now, but not anytime soon. My team needs a core superstar big 3 to build their franchise around. Like what the Penguins did 19 years ago with Sidney Crosby, Kris Letang & Evengi Malkin. I say The Jets trade Ehlers & McGroarty for high draft picks & have them trade up for Michael Misa & build around/establish Michael Misa, Elias Salomonson & Kevin He as the Jets big 3/core moving forward.
That 2C spot is a team killer. Vilardi might have to take the spot out of necessity. So Connor-Scheif-Perfetti

Your run on sentences & grammar skills show your poor intelligence.
The jets have 0 chance of being a cup contender for the foreseeable future. They keep giving Pionk raises and he sucks! Don’t know why no one sees his mistakes game after game, including weak low percentage passes, giveaways and senseless penalties at bad times. We also have no elite centres in compared to other teams and Hellebuck is in shambles every time he gets into the playoffs. Huge goalie equals slow left to right movement. I wouldn’t be surprised if we miss the playoffs but expect to be a first round elimination team again.
Trade Ehlers for Blake C. of Calgary.
They're not contending until they get rid of Chevy and bring in a GM who is willing to be ruthless to win. This team has won THREE playoff series in 13 seasons, and people still think Chevy is doing a good job, and constantly use the excuse that he has the hardest job because he's in Winnipeg. There's no physical presence on the forward lines. There's no physical presence on the blue line. This team is continually built to have a top 6 that scores and a bottom 6 that defends. Problem is when the top 6 goes cold, the scoring dries up.
Dude they've got zero chance.....

We want to focus on the negative, but the first half of the last 2 seasons have been an absolute thrill-ride. I can't believe how much fun I had watching the Jets these last years. The strings of incredible games they put together and the records they set were a bonus. So I feel like the problem is Hellebyuck himself. IE he wants to play every game and Winnipeg wont say no to him because they're scared he'll leave. BUT then come playoffs he tired and done. IMO what the Jets should do is sit him down and said "Look we want u fresh for the playoffs so u're not playing ANY back to backs and no more than 60 games."
I don't think any goalies really play back to back games anymore
I feel like these same questions with attendance were asked in 1995. Look where that got us ..

We'll be a mediocre team once again. This year I don't see us being first in the NHL for goals against, and they may squeak into playoffs but lose 4-0 in round 1. If that. We can't continue to accept this level, either Chevy needs to be more aggressive in free agency or we need a new gm that can do so. I realize it's tough to bring free agents to Winnipeg, but this roster needs improvement before we're considered legit Stanley Cup favourites.
Chevy has made many trades & been very active over the last few years.
Probably the most difficult GM job in hockey is in Winnipeg.
Most good free agents aren't willing to come here & a rebuild is basically impossible. The fans simply wouldn't support the team.
Season ticket holders have declined by 25% over the last 5 seasons (less than 10,000 now) & no years long waiting list like before.
The honeymoon is long over & reality has set in.
Winnipeg almost never puts together consecutive good seasons. I’m personally looking forward to them falling back to earth again this year
The game they want McGroarty to play and the way he envisions himself to play, his body to be fully mature. And that isn't at 20 years old. He would risk injury that could shorten or end his career.
This team will get smashed by any of the contenders come playoffs, maybe 2nd round if they have a good first round match up
They will never win with Hellebuck. He is not even in average in playoff performance. Signing him to the long contract was a huge mistake.
In my opinion Chevy has passed his best before date.
Crazy the team who has it's fans wave the white flag at home has a terrible home record... Also I thought it was the Habs who were the french canadians.
I body checked and injured Ehlers a lot in game. I think they should let him walk, because he is injury prone.

This team really is just the epitome of boring. They're not very good at anything (1st in GA yes, but I think that's just due to a career year from Hellebuyck), their logo is bland, their jerseys are bland, the team colors are bland and all of the players on the roster are bland. It's like the entire team identity is blandness. Can't really blame Jets fans for not wanting to watch them play. They might squeeze in to the playoffs, but they're absolutely not winning a round with this complete lack of everything (apart from goaltending).

I read where Gary Bettman pretty much laughed at the idea he was in winnipeg to "deal with attendance" and there was no discussion about the attendance or relocation etc....
you didn't mention any of that.... nor did you compare the 89% average attendance to any other fan base in the league...because YOU KNOW that 89% is incredibly high. among the top teams in the league...
I noticed you didn't mention the poor attendance was all during an uncharacteristically warm fall in Manitoba when the Bombers were on a deep run and could have won a Cup.... and eating up the sports fan crowd....
I noticed you didn't mention the after christmas attendance when you could barely get a ticket and there was a long chain of sellouts.....
I noticed you barely mentioned the cost of those tickets and How Winnipeg makes profits with 15K tickets that owners with 20K arenas can't touch....
so. in short, you took a hot take headline from last fall and didn't even bother to see if it was accurate , and mindlessly regurgitated it as gospel...
our market gets enough baseless rumour mongering and bad reporting thank you. we don't need you being lazy and adding to the BS.
Again after watching for years? I expected better.
The drop in attendance in Winnipeg is very significant. 25% less than 5 years ago (9,500 season ticket holders last season).
Long gone are the days of the waiting list for season tickets.
Only 15% of seats in the Canada Life Centre are corporate. The next lowest for Canadian NHL teams is 45%.
Those numbers are not sustainable long term.
Imagine what those numbers would drop to a rebuild were to happen.
A rebuild is basically not an option for the Jets.
mmm ok..
you just said .89% average attendance is 75% attendance?
lol that is not how math works.

Barely get a ticket?
Long chain of sellouts?
Absolute BS.
😄
The league did say they do not wanna leave that market. especially cause if they leave Winnipeg a second time, they are never going back.
The Jets ownership has to lower ticket prices. The economy there has been f*cked since covid and hasn’t recovered.
I think the chances of the Jets leaving are incredibly low, but they arent 1000% safe either, but they are the most vulnerable out of the 32 teams. But there is next to zero chance they ever move.
But ownership has to stop being stubborn and lower the prices
They did.. I am the recipient of that price lowering and could get 1/4 seasons for the upcoming year. That's 11 games and I can do reasonable payments per month or pay in full. Got me into a playoff game for a bit below $100. Go take a look at seasons prices if you want more details. It is affordable entertainment.
The Jets Ownership Group could buy the entire NHL, it's teams and every building they play in and their farm teams, . David T is worth 67 Billion dollars. Pretty sure that's enough to buy 32 teams and 32 buildings lol. So no I don't think Wpg is going anywhere.
