Short version- Germans migrated to El Salvador. They opened a knife manufacturing and exporting company. named Condor. Practical knives crafted with a cultural legacy of steel workers and old school metallurgists in a country that uses knives daily.
Looks like a decent knife for $80. Not sure why they call it a puukko, doesn't look like a Puukko handle. Looks like a typical bush craft handle. I wish they would have ground down the front edges of the scales by the blade before attaching the scales, grinding now that the scales are attached won't be as easy without possibly messing up the blade. It was green Rhododendron wood, I thought it might be hollytree wood it feels the same way. The trees have thick green leaves with a heavy wax on them. We have many breeds of that plant/tree in Western Oregon. It grows with a twist in the grain. I've made knife handles using that wood from larger growth its pretty crazy hard stuff. It has a lot of natural oils and resin, so it sands into a perfect polish. It's excellent for spoons and bowls, BUT it's very hard to carve once it is totally dry.
Would you sharpen a knife for the viewers? I would love to have one of my knives super sharp and maybe u could do a review on it? It’s a Templar knife from the Excalibur line OTF VG10 Damascus
Nice design. Disappointing steel choice. I really am so tired of the mediocre steel choices some knife companies/makers insist on. Why not AEB-L/14c28n/Nitro-V? Surprisingly tough stuff and with better edge retention than 1095--not to mention stainless, of course. I'd even take D2 over 1095. Love the Elver and was sad they discontinued it before I could acquire a full-flat-ground D2 version.
1095HC works fine for me , I've been using the knife with no issues. Condor has a huge market and is able to keep cost down for many who can't afford fancy steels. They are using 14C28N now, which is huge considering 10 years ago all they had was 1075 at 54hrc or less🤮 horrible for scandi grinds. I like 14C28N and think it was a smart choice it's affordable for their core market and can sell in those areas. Their designs are awesome .. I focus more on geometry these days , but I do realize some steels don't float the boat for some folks. I personally can't stand Condors 1075hc that's why I stopped buying their knives years ago. It's because their core market of machete users live in jungle areas and they like soft carbon steel. That said I did some expirementing with this puukko and it really held up great. I trust it now and will be buying more of their designs now in 1095hc like their Bushlore Darklore but also their Aqualore in 14C28N....I definitely want that one. Their 14C28N is heat treated outside of their factory most likely in Germany or some other European country. Thanks for the comment .
Try getting outside once in a while and actually using the stuff. Your choice and steal won't really matter too much if you can halfway learn how to keep it reasonably Sharp.
My only gripe, is that the bevel is a bit hogh,however, the blade thickness, is at last spot on! You can't find a proper scandi easily these days. PEople wjo use these knives, for what they meant for, know why all the serious makers, make them maximum 3mm thick stock blades and not 4mm or even more,that makers who go target collectors do.make them as.
Yes , you cannot take the edge to complete zero it's to thin. With a scandiVEX now it's a ripper BUT , the Enzo makes better feather curls with that shallow scandi. Condor had it way to blunt cause they don't have the time to refine the edge on that higher grind. Lauri blades come with the same higher grind but they put that little micro edge on them. Makes it really east to fix them up , that Condor was an easy fix also.
Some said it might be Privet , I dunno but it's brutal stuff, esp once it seasons. That and wild plum tree wood , we have tons of it here in Oregon. I used to use plumwood to make my knife handles. Some of it has a purple and cream color swirl that looks amazing when finished. But it's a chore to work with as ya learn and grow I find easier just to buy a block ...or lazier LOL 😆
I love that design but I won't buy it because it's a right hand only sheath. I hate these companies only think about righthand carry. I bought the BPS Aura amazing knife.
@richardhenry1969 Chicago Knife Works has um for $58 last I heard. That's worth getting another sheath in my opinion. It's a killer knife and the steel is actually a good heat treat, for Condor... that's rare.
No problem man , your review captured my attention on this knife and boy am I happy it did. It's so comfortable to use , they have a winner with this blade and should be advertising it more. Also like you said ,If they made it a hair longer it would really start catching more attention. It's the woodlore budget knife I've always wanted . Thanks again. Yeah, I thought of you when I received it , I was like, GTM would like this one . The handle is a short one, but you can get a full grip on it. it's very comfortable. It's been so long since I purchased a Condor it really brought back good memories for me. I like the 1095hc is seems to be a good heat treatment. Anyways I just thought ya might like a different view of the knife . There is not much out there on it. Clearly, people are interested cause I only had 87 subs and tiny view counts, but this knife got 4000 views in a week LOL . It's pretty weird for a tiny channel to get that many views on a knife.
Concerning the first choice of wood: I think it is a species of privit. I call it muscle wood because the fibres look like muscle fibres. I don't know the janka rating, but I know it to be a very hard wood.
Yes, it is very tough stuff with lots of twisted grain. The hardest stuff I have run into is rhododendron tree wood. I use it to make knife handles, it's very dense and has a natural polish when sanded down. Wild plum wood is all over the place where I am , it is also very hard stuff , and carving with it is a chore.
Over the last few years we have seen Condor come up with these designs that were not very practical and user friendly, knives like the Huron or Cavelore that have wire wrapped handles, which are not comfortable for prolonged use. More intended to look fancy than functional. This knife is exactly the opposite, it looks very comfortable to hold and uses decent materials.
Couldn't have said it better . I also like that they finally gave the Bushlore an upgrade to 1095hc and 14C28N. The Aqualore is on my list , I really like that handle, and 14C28N should be perfect for that grind geometry. The Darklore in 1095hc looks fine, BUT why did they use polished paper micarta on a "tactical" version ? That makes no sense. Regardless, I wouldn't mind having both, but money wise, I can only choose one when I do get that chance.
As soonas I saw Condor had decided to release it, a year ago , I instantly thought finally what I have looked for. But I do not like 1095 if it gets to brittle to be a carbon steel. There are so many other great carbon steels. How is the hardening and toughness on this knife?
It's good stuff , WAY better than their 1075hc. I'd say it's on the tougher side than being hard . I can tell with how it reacts while building up the bur during sharpening. I can read steel pretty well when profiling the edge , the steel talks to ya in a weird way 😉 That's where I like my 1095 to be myself, I'd rather get a roll than a chip . It sharpens up like Moras Carbon blades and takes a very good polish.

When I first saw it in the sheath I thought "you can't call that a puukko". Now I see the blade it does look very like a puukko. Looks like a great knife.
Yeah, it's a weird blend of two worlds. If ya take away the full tang and imagine it's a stick tang, it looks like a puukko . The sheath even accepts the knife kinda like a puukko sheath , it slides right in with a nice positive locking tension. It's really become one of my faves, and I find it on my hip the most.
I always have liked their designs but their 1075hc was just to soft for scandi blades. I'm so happy they finally started using 1095hc and 14C28N. I really want to get the Aqualore, the handle looks excellent. I don't care for the blue color but the handle is thicker than the 1095 Darklore. 14C28N is good steel if heatreated properly it holds a good keen edge.
Will do, I plan on doing some comparison vids with the Tops Tanimboca Puukko. The same guy made both knives and it's about a $35 price difference between the two companies. We got freezing rain right now in Oregon so I'm waiting for better weather to get outside. Thanks for swinging in man.
It's awesome, the Enzo Elver I compared it too is also an excellent knife. DLT has the last of them as kits for only $49 , even comes with the sheath . Just some epoxy and sanding and ya got an amazing puukko. Thanks for the view and comment .
I finally pulled the trigger on this one about a month ago. Mine came with a pretty good wave to the grind. Plus the sheath was crap - the rivets fidnt go all the eay through the leather etc. I rewched out Condor and they said they'd replace it, but a month later, nothing. Havent answered my last email. I paid $126 CND and feel terrible about this....

I finally asked for any similar new knife and they gave me options. The only decent one was the Bisonte so I took that one just to get something for my money ($126 CDN). I'll never buy another Condor knife as long as I live. Take care.

I'm really sorry to hear that.. The Bisonte knife was a good choice though , from what I can tell it's one of their better handle designs. Other than the Tops Tanimboca Puukko the only knife that comes close is the Enzo Elver. If you can find one up there it would be a great knife to nab up. The only other maker is custom-built, RoB Evans blades have that same great puuko shape. If ya didn't live in Canada I'd sell ya mine for a deal but shipping is nuts. Just ain't worth it for second hand.
Hello from the middle of the Willamette valley. As long as the power stays on, I'm totally fine ...That last big one we had. The power was off for 2 weeks , my family started to lose their minds, LOL. Tells ya just how addicted we all are to the internet.
