- BMW M135i Downpipe INSTALL & Sound Comparison: VRSF
We recently got our hands on the 4" catless downpipe from VRSF to suit the N55 M135, M235 and M2 models. This is the install and sound comparison.
The car is currently running MHD and XHP tunes, these with the downpipe have really turned this car in to an angry little hatchback. Bloody awesome.

Same modification here! I wrap the downpipe with thermal tape. The sound is pretty the same, pops and bangs are absolutely gorgeous, and the exhaust note is little more raspy than original. I love the gasoline smell on my garage, but when I drive I never feel any bad smell on the cabin
Good video guys, nice clear content 👍
I like your level-headed approach. Not so much clowning around and stuff (MCM maybe?). Keep this attitude.
This inspired me to fit my new downpipe (that and stage 4 lockdown means I cant go to a mechanic).
Two things I've learnt.
1: I now hate V-braces.
2: My car sounds and feels incredible and I should've done this ages ago!
haha, aren't they such an awesome mod.
Love this car
just bought an estoril blue metalic M235i and went with the Active Autowerke high flow 400 cell catted downpipe. a nice little power gain with a tune and maintains legal emissions/value of the car + doesnt smell and no check engine light prior to flash tuning
Nice video chaps and no attitude with you boys.I’ll bring my 140 over to you once I learn how to go airborne in it!
Love the car
Hyper cool the dog :)
Awesome video! The car looks brand new underneath, our UK cars look knackered in three months haha, you should see the state of my M2 :-(
We actually noticed it on the spring install at Evolve and our hearts sunk a little. Such a shame, but what do you do? I think it's better to be used and and enjoyed. The reality is, yours is mainly just grime and surface corrosion a good detailer would have that look like new in a few hours again.
Good to hear Aussie accent.
Where did you get the strut brace?
How did it pop and bang with stock exhaust mine pops none... had it a Software?
Awesome vid. Would this be the same process or similar to install on RHD e82 135i N55?
Similar, however the pipe is a 3.5" instead of the 4" version we did here.
Is this the standard exhaust other than the decat?
Great video, thumbs up, very informative.
Personally, I hate the pops & bangs map, it sounds childish and anti-social, but hey each to their own.
Agreed finally seen this comment somewhere!
great video
Thanks man! The Dow pipe made such a difference to this car. Worth every cent.
@@ZeroTo60Tube I installed mine yesterday. I 100% agree bro
@@garyglezer430 did you had to make any tune to the car?
Santiago Cervera nothing at all
@@garyglezer430 do you get any engine light? Any strong smell inside the car? Any malfunction? I don't want to screw my car
How to code out the downpipe what app was used to do it?
Need a BM3 burble tune
Sounds good! Looks super easy compared to N54 haha
Aww man, its sooo easy compared to an N54... those N55 guys have it easy. haha
@@ZeroTo60Tube I can imagine. I've had to take my downpipes off a few times. I can do it in my sleep. But still pain in the ass hahaha
Would this fit on b38 118i 2016 m sport?
he should install the Akrapovic titanium exhaust
Thats great guys!!!.
How about fuel consumption .
Mhd catless vs stock .You notice any difference at normal driving?
Initial reports after the first day. The car feels way stronger than it did before. It's made a much bigger difference than anticipated. As a result fuel economy has gone through the roof..... hehe. We should have an idea once the increased power honeymoon period finishes. Apparently it's too addictive to not stomp on the loud pedal at every opportunity right now. Really in the long run, it has have removed a exhaust restriction and a source of heat build up. So there should be less energy used to run this thing and in turn have better fuel economy. But time will tell.
does not put thermal tape ??
hello friend~ is this 135i whole exhaust system is original stock system except install the new VSRF downpipe?
It was for this video yes!
It sounded better BEFORE cat pipe installation. Less raspy and deeper.
I don't think I get those loud cracks from my stock M135i - did the 'before' car have any other mods that helped with the sound?
edit: Ahh, looks like exhaust burbles are set to 'aggressive' in MHD :)
Would have liked to see the dyno and 0-60 scores before and after, but still a great video!
I doubt that's a stock m135i exhaust before the downpipe install. It's way loud for factory. I bet you it has pe mod or red delete. I have stock m135i and it's quiet as a mouse
@@sarverg2207 I have a 2014 M135i, stage 2 and its quite quiet too... (No downpipe or exhaust system) I would love to know how they got this "stock" sound xD
What year model is the car
Great video, I'm considering doing the same on my 640i but am concerned about the fuel smell from inside the car, could you smell any difference after the swap?
Hello, I am also smelling this through mine even if it’s stock rn
135 2022 bme
Is it only the down pipe replacement?
Is the muffler tail stock?
Yes just the downpipe.
In Germany you have to check every 2 years, downpipe is illegal, better empty the original Kat😁
Exactly what I did over here in Belgium, looks stock with just an open pipe welded inside. Still passes emissions test with secondary cats in place. :D
Did you have to change software in ECU after installation to not have DTC?
Yes. You might have missed it in the vid. But we did update MHD settings for the downpipe.
@@ZeroTo60Tube so to install the downpipe you need to make any aditional tune to the car?
@@santiagocervera6608 yes
Did you got any engine light? Can you feel the smell inside of the car?
No engine light, but the car is tuned with MHD, so it may sort that out automatically. The is more smell from them, but it's not too bad. Seem to notice it more with ethanol blending.
@@ZeroTo60Tube great. But the tune is necessary with the downpipe or I can put the downpipe without any tune?
@@santiagocervera6608 you may get a check engine light if you dont tune it.
I thought this m135i had only 1 cat which is just after the turbo, but you mentioned another centre cat? Please explain as I'm looking to basically run a scorpian sportcat or hfc and then run a resonated catback, but confused about another centre cat?
You are correct.
Is this for the pwg or ewg?
This is an EWG model.
Whats your settings in your burbles
This was max aggressiveness with .5 or 1 second time from memeory.
bonjour il y a til une perte de couple ou de bas regime avec cela?
???
any special tools needed ? >
This was done such a long time ago, From memory no special tools, although a deep socket or rachet spnner for the vbands would help.
Xdrive?
No, just rwd. We didnt get these in xdrive unfortunately.
+20 HP👍💪
It legitimately feels like it. We have heaps of Vbox data on this car, so when the weather it right we will get out and do some timed runs to see how much difference the downpipe has made with the same tune on the ecu. Next stop, intercooler and stage 2+.
@@ZeroTo60Tube very nice, I See, its legal Tuning in Australia?
@@ZeroTo60Tube I have intercooler from Ali Express its Copy from Wagner, its very nice Part for 200 Dollar
It's a grey area. We don't get emissions tested in our state, so no one officially checks for them. But it's not the right thing to do. You can meet the regulations by running a hi-flow cat further down the exhaust system, which is what will happen with this car and as long as the right cel cat is used away from the turbo, it shouldn't impede performance.
@@n54power21 Did you have any fitment issues with it at all?
Not a fan of pops and bangs. Very boy racer.
Definitely a personal preference. One thing that is nice, this car will only do it in sport plus, so if you don't feel like impressing the kids, you can drive it in quite a civil way.
Needs a res delete to make a difference
