Because female artists get less attention than men. See how Frida Kahlo was referred to as ‘wife of renowned artist Diego Rivera also does some doodles’ for years
I'm the same, never heard of her. Watched a youtube on Picasso the other day and there was no mention of his daughter Paloma, thought my memory was mistaken, so I looked her up and sure enough there comes her mother. So glad I did. What an amazing woman and so prolific in all she does.
Yes, same here... I only learned about her today, it's a shame! As to mediocre, white male painters, school and art history books made sure I learned about all of them (beside those who really are good, of course)
What a woman! Just finding out about her and her wonderful life. She is also the mother of Tiffany's jewelry designer. It seems she used lots of wisdom throughout her life.
what an impressive, inspiring woman! And yet, there's a lot of "Picasso this, Picasso that...". Will we ever be able to just appreciate female artists on their own? It would be so much more interesting if the focus was on her brilliant and huge body of work instead of her relationship with men. If it can't be avoided to bring up Picasso, it should also be mentioned how he tried to ruin her artistic career out of sheer vengefulness. Even if that's not what people want to know about someone who's considered a "genius" and demigod of the art world.
I had many projects and made them about him. I have an art assignment and we are making a fake cake inspired by famous artists. I am using him for the 5th time now😂 I have to do a 2-tier cake 🎂 with a cake slice 🍰 Also,today's my birthday.;-;
There is something a little disjointed in this combination of, on one hand, insisting on being herself, having her personality, being this fearless self-possessed creator, and on the other marrying, not once but twice, a much older and much more famous man.
She can handle them on her terms. Bigger things in life than fame and ego. Couldn't do anything for the painters issues so moved onto the scientist who had more sense and so got to share her life.
@@marklimbrick But you never hear of male self-possessed creators marrying once, let alone twice, a famous woman (unless she is famous for being beautiful). What I mean is that her implicit feminism, or at least profession of independance, feels a little bogus. (I don't understand what your verbless sentence "bigger things in life than fame and ego" refer to).

If you understand art, you would see that Francoise Gilot is a brilliant artist in her own right. Her abstract work is influenced by Picasso, but there is a brightness, and nuanced joy in her work that I don’t particularly feel in Picasso’s. Indescribable beauty in the genius work of Picasso, but for me, not always possessing a “joie de vivre”. She copied him? No. Influenced by him? Yes.
I've been to a Picasso museum - what I'd really like is to visit a Gilot museum. This woman is amazing.
YES!!!
Ikr! She’s really good!!!
I keep watching this over and over. What a delight!
So I do!
What a joyful person. A treasure.
RIP Francoise Gilot. The only woman that left Picasso

Strong Woman.. Admirable..
Madame Gilot is a spunky woman who has a vivacious personality. It's time to find one of her books to learn more about her.
Her painting vibrate and her humor is so fun, why i never heard of her.

Cool lady. Very productive
Pablo aside, I love her work. Pablo considered, in comparison?
We won't do that.
One heck of a trip.
Inspirational lady been there Artist in her own right x
I wonder what she thought of the National Geographic series about Picasso which ended a few weeks ago.
I watched the enitre series and came away with a new female role model. Ms. Gilot is an inspiration!
i think in another 10-20 years, marilyn manson will look exactly like her.
Mike K. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
She was there. I want to know.

100.000 vueltas le da a Picasso pintando, eso era lo que de verdad le jodió al “genio” malagueño toda la vida.
Que tonteria??
Ses peintures sont excellentes : elle gagne à être connue pour elle et non comme copine de Picasso!😊
She was very pretty in her young days..great woman 👠😅
She was beautiful throughout her life!
Wasn't Picasso still married to his wife, Olga, when #FrancoiseGilot was having babies with him?
Un monstrr dans un gant de velours,
She learned with pablo and used Picasso celebrity.
U should speak french, it's sometimes more convenient.
