    Lived here all my life and never knew half the things you mentioned. Thank you. I think its a shame that local schools in Ayesbury, don't seem to give some kind of history of the town to those who live within.

    Thank you very much Simon. It is wonderful to see the historic places connected to my family. Some of my ancestors are from Aylesbury. Alfred Hayward and his wife Caroline Bartlett left Aylesbury, in the 1800's, sailed across the Atlantic Ocean and settled in the area of Cobourg and Rice Lake, Ontario, Canada. There is a monument in St. Mary's Church cemetary that commemorates some members of the Hayward and Rose families. It was recently rediscovered after being covered with vegetation for almost 100 years. I believe there is also a plaque inside the church that mentions a William Hayward. I look forward to viewing more of your videos.

    Interesting to see someone else doing stuff about old Aylesbury. The bit at the end about the Great Train Robbery I think is incorrect. The court hearings were at the Rural District Council offices in Walton Street. I have many photos of that period. I see you've bought my books too :)

    • @simonguettier
      @simonguettier  4 роки тому

      Hello Karl, how good to hear from you ... you are, of course, correct about the Great Train Robbers, as I've indicated elsewhere in the comments. The trouble was, in researching the trial I didn't factor in that the buildings used have now disappeared and wrongly assigned other buildings to the story. I've left in because the video is quite difficult to edit ... I've subscribed to your channel which I wasn't aware of, a wealth of Aylesbury material which I know I'll enjoy. Best wishes, Simon

    Hi Simon
    Really interesting video , are you sure that the Train Robbers were tried at the County Offices that you showed ? All the photos I’ve seen of the trial venue show a horrible 60’s building that was located in Walton Street and is referred to as Aylesbury Rural District Office and which seems to have been demolished and replaced with a development called Veridian Square . I’m hoping to visit Aylesbury next week to see some of the places you have highlighted.

    • @simonguettier
      @simonguettier  4 роки тому

      Hi Jimbob, thanks for your kind comments, but you're dead right, Train Robbers trial was indeed in a now demolished building, didn't realise when filming. Enjoy your visit and make sure you include the Kings Head pub, well worth a visit. Best wishes, Simon

    • @simonguettier

      I think it is actually the A413 - as you can see in Google Maps here - I was filming on Holman's Bridge itself www.google.co.uk/maps/place/Holman+St,+Aylesbury/@51.8285661,-0.815848,16.48z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x4876f70d20a38423:0x802ae431b6967e75!8m2!3d51.8276743!4d-0.8225512?hl=en

      @@simonguettier It is indeed the A413, the A41 and A413 cross as they pass through Aylesbury which is where the confusion comes from. To think I run past this bridge (on the wooden pedestrian bridge) many times a week and never knew of its significance.
