Night vision really brought out the 3.0mp power

I can see there are diminishing returns. If you have the old 700TVL camera it's worth upgrading.
If you have 1MP it's not worth upgrading to 1.3MP or even 2MP as the improvement is not very great. 3MP looks really nice, but again, if I had 2MP I wouldn't bother to upgrade

totally depends on field of view and distance between mounting point from point of interest/entry . new 5Mp/4K tech is well in budget build range for new systems. buy a better xvr that can be upgraded in the future with more cameras

    enjoy that latency lol

Even though clear, the 3MP, that latency does indeed show. That's why I myself am still leaning towards SDI technology.

Million Dollar HD-SDI will always be the best. However not everyone can afford that technology. If you enjoy Hollywood movies, watch local television broadcasts and PBS, you’re already familiar with HD-SDI since they all use HD-SDI technology. Currently everything for home surveillance is set at 1080P or 2MP but I’d put that up against IP any day - Why? No latency with HD-SDI. 4MP, 5MP and greater are coming to the SDI family soon. To improve on distance run, EX-SDI was created, still SDI but a dumbed down version IOW compressed, similar to IP but not as drastic as IP and EX-SDI DVR’s will support HD-SDI, so the two can co-mingle. Currently with SDI cameras, in particular, the box cams, the sensor is 1080P but one can add/attach a 5MP lens.
