- In this travel tour around Flagstaff Arizona we explore the downtown area on the First Friday. Flagstaff is the third largest city in Arizona and home to Northern Arizona University Lumberjacks. We walk around the downtown Flagstaff city center checking out some of the breweries and restaurants. Flagstaff is Northern Arizona's main hub.

Living in Arizona is quite a unique experience because of the vastness that the state offers. From the Sonoran Desert in the south to the high country in the north all the way up towards the Four Corners east and the Grand Canyon in the west. Known as the Grand Canyon state, Arizona is diverse in many ways. The state tree is the Palo Verde, the state cactus is the Saguaro, the state bird is the Cactus wren. Thanks for sharing! I grew up in Flagstaff, 1976-1985, born in Phoenix in 1971. Since then, I have lived in all four corners of the USA, traveled extensively (35 states, 5 continents, 25 countries). As of lately, now in my 50s, I have been looking at moving back. My father is buried there, and I would like to retire around Flagstaff; it will be like coming home. Lots of mileage under my belt. Ready for the quiet life. But it sure has grown! It was only 40k in the 70s.
I was born and raised in Flagstaff. Best childhood memories! ❤️🧸
Hello how are you doing today?
Been there a couple of times while traveling. Flagstaff has this unique and historic vibe to it and the people I've met were so relaxed and friendly. Thanks for sharing. Greetings from Germany.
Don’t be fooled the residents are very racist
26 years ago in Downtown Flagstaff we picked up our license for a marriage down in Sedona. If housing was more affordable I’d move there in a heartbeat.
I think Flag would be more affordable I'd they had built more apartments and condos rather than large single family homes, especially considering the town literally has a limit as to how much it can sprawl.
@@AlexCab_49 I live here. The AirBnBs are what is killing the housing market. Too many people buy property and do short term rentals instead of renting to locals. It sucks. And college kids take up the rest.
@@Cassandra9763 AirBnBs screw over and distort housing markets and cause homes to get more expensive.
@@Cassandra9763 You are right Cassie about the cause for the housing market demise. It's unreal. l live in Flag and I remember being on a bike tour and coming through the city back in May of 2012. Now I can totally see the impact and the numerous four-story apartment buildings. It totally breaks heart. But, it's great to be up here. Waking up to Mt. Eldon is awesome!
@@veroniquediallo6055 is flagstaff a good place for families in your opinion? I’m looking at apartments for me and two kiddos to move to. Divorce is giving me a chance at moving to the place I have dreamed of for over two decades. Arizona here I come. Just have to find housing that’s in a safe area for two little ones with disabilities.
@0:37 😍 how pretty!!!! Looks really nice. It almost seems like it could be a movie set.
Very beautiful city, I like this style of place watching from here in Brazil 🇧🇷
It is truly a unique and historical place to live and visit.
Also, Flagstaff is the home of Lowell Observatory. At 127 years young, Lowell is one of the oldest Observatories in the USA. Additionally, Lowell was where former 9th planet Pluto was discovered in 1930.
Capital of the legion
It seems like a friendly, laid back town.💜
this place is amazing. thank you for sharing
Thanks for the "First Friday" walkabout in the downtown area...I really enjoyed it...Boy that was quite crowded and uncomfortable for me more than a couple of times walking on the sidewalks. But then I'm from a small rural Northern California coastal town. I super love where I live so just letting the Arizona folks know that I don't want to move there, but just occasionally visit. They can get real protective and testy about us Californians moving there.
I grew up in Tempe Arizona, every year in junior high and high school we would go to NAU for our band conference! I love Flagstaff, As an adult I enjoy the hotel Monte Vista and the speakeasy! I’m going next month for my birthday💕♎️
I Love Flagstaff. Its so beautiful. I try to visit every yr.
I am open to receive this move father amen 🙏
I drive across country at least once a year and i look forward to Flagstaff the most. It's beautiful. My favorite place in the United States. Well, tied with Park City, Utah.
I used to live in flagstaff, pretty nice to see you tour it
My family has been in flagtown for over 80 years, we love this town and have done our best effort to make it thrive.
Thanks for loving my town
Excellent video very high quality picture. Made me feel like I was right there. Thank you so much.
I love living here 😄
Thank you 😊
Hello how are you doing today ?
My brother lived there in Flagstaff for a while but now lives in Williams in a house where it is on solid rock and he has to have a cistern or water holding tank for his water to use and drink in his house.
Most jobs in the Flagstaff area are primarily tourist related or hospitality related. If you are able to be a remote worker there, it would be great for you there. Any other jobs would have to be jobs where you can work independently or on your own. In other words there is not a lot of industry there at all.
Beer industry is good here! Thats what I work in living here now
@@ImQuantum It just won't be for everyone.
There is Coconino Community College and NAU
How's the Healthcare industry in flag? Any hospitals near by for folks to work at?
I lived there for many years. Great place for the outdoors people.
Flagstaff has over 80 inches of snow per year. That is huge, it is more than in Colorado! It must be a winter paradise
Yes, one of the snowiest cities in America but not as big as Buffalo NY
Lol.. no… not at all. 80” is one months snowfall in some parts of Colorado. Sometimes 80” from one storm. Colorado gets far more snow then flagstaff.
We live in Sedona. We debated between FLG and Sedona when we moved to AZ from FL in 2005. Decided on Sedona because of the milder winters. We love taking day trips to FLG especially during the warm summer days here. Such a fun and friendly city. Great video!
Wow looks pretty and nice.
❤️ Flag ❤️
Thank you for these videos.
wow. thrs a dwn town flagstaff az? dang...
enjoyed it...thank you...
7000 feet? Wow! Almost as high as Park City, Utah. Similar vibes, too.
Yep.
Reminds me of Sante Fe NM
Thanks a lot , God bless !
Open to receive, this move, father! ✨🙏✨
Great video, Jeff!!!
I love Flagstaff & was here during this video making actually & see myself Lol . Bt anyhows we had a great time here & being around this town is great & the wining & dining is great & meeting new people's & the shopping is great also. And love the scenic areas & places that are around Flagstaff also . And I look forward to returning here soon ..
That's it....I'm on the way...I think I will love it down there
Excellent! I'm planning weekend Aug, 24,35, 2024!
I was born and raised in Flagstaff and I sure miss it! Whenever I tell people I’m from Arizona they assume I like the hot desert heat, nope! Most who’ve not been have no idea there is a large portion often state not like Phoenix! I moved to WA many years ago but I’m coming back to Flag for a visit this summer and it’ll be my first time back in 20 years so I’m so looking forward to it!
Very cool place ❤️I visited in March this year…. Love it
Great video. Thank You 😊
Thanks for this video well filmed! Greetings from France!
Looks really nice! I’m thinking about moving away and I just recently discovered Flagstaff Arizona.
I don’t know anything about Arizona so I will have to visit there before I move.
Thank you for the wonderful video!
very nice indeed loveit
My favorite city!
You can't miss Rockstacker Kombucha! Best kombucha ever
That was a cool Checker you walked by.
Went to N.A.U. 54 years ago. Loved Flagstaff Az. It was very small town also there was nothing in Sedona or Jerome. Loved Oak Creek Cayon an went there all the time. Great place to go to college at.
Good morning -wow.professional ~))
Nice!
Nicely done
My family moved away from there 7 years ago... God I miss that place so much and I am going back home and see it again after so many years.
I would recommend Karma's bar and grill for any Asian food enthusiasts
Great video Jeff !
I live in Flagstaff ❤
Thanks you for showing that minde happier made. I lived thire for 3 month. it was one of best. I was student thire in NAU. I am konw in my contry KSA. I hope I visit agine with my children.
I was looking for myself in that video, as I was down there that night for the First Friday Art Walk! Sorry missed you, thanks for the footage!
I had a chance to study at NAU for the fall semester in ‘97. State university of NY had a domestic exchange program. I loved it up there so much. I miss seeing those peaks every day on my walks around everywhere. I wish I got to see more of downtown, but I was pretty short on cash and didn’t turn 21 until the last weeks of my stay.
Heading that way Sunday!!
Hello how are you doing today?
I live there btw...😉
Love it so far! 🤣
Flagstaff is like Taos, NM without the stench of patchouli.
I like Flagstaff. Seems like a cool, laid back town. Was there in early May. My favorite part was the Lowell Observatory - did an afternoon visit/tour, followed by a nighttime telescope viewing of the stars! I also hiked up to the top of Humphreys Peak - the views were amazing! I checked out Walnut Canyon NM - very cool ruins set in the cliffs. Unfortunately, Sunset Crater NM and Wupatki NM were closed at the time due to the Tunnel fire.
Wow! The town has changed since I graduated in 1974! 🤣
Lol I bet y’all had a great time back then here
NAU Class of ‘69 and now I’m back!!
Hello how are you doing today?
I was watching a tv show called “The Dead Files” and they featured Flagstaff, Az. Because of it’s rich history and the railroad the down town area is haunted.
oh man i wish i could move to flagstaff now awesome place
Unfortunately I think only us Californians can afford it and even then, I heard there aren't many jobs and is quite pricey for Arizona.
Me too but I’m stuck I’m stuck in the Phoenix area. There is no work for me in Flagstaff
I miss liberal Flagstaff before a lot of people moved here from other states
I’m in your video ❤
I don’t recognize some parts of my hometown, because it’s changed so much. Was a nice place to live when the population was around 35k. Last time I visited was seven years ago. The traffic was a nightmare. Flagstaff is still one of the most beautiful cities I’ve ever experienced.
they need public tranist to reduce traffic
@@wesleycanada3675 They have a bus system. The city was not built to accommodate so many people. It's a two-lane road in town.
@@myracrosby1186 the buses are infrequent at best so more buses and trams
Nice little hippie vibe town
I love Flagstaff because of it’s location. The winters are getting less severe. You did not do as good on this video as you did on the Prescott one. Did not show the surrounding attractions like the San Francisco Peaks, Snow Bowl, etc. Also no mention of the university and so many college kids. Terrible traffic at times. Still a neat town. I grew up in Prescott. Thanks for sharing.
Love it all just hate that cali keeps flooding in.
We love this, do you mind if we share a link to this video on our discover Flagstaff Page?
I stayed at the Weatherford.
I drive up from Dewy and visit there a couple of times a year. Very nice city, and I enjoy myself every time I go there. At 7000 feet the summers are about 30 degrees cooler than Phoenix and about 15 degrees cooler than here in Dewey. So the temps are favorable for about 7 months out of the year in Flag. That is fine if you like a cold winter as there are winter sports available there including downhill skiing. I have seen snowmobiles too.
Think of Flagstaff as being in Southern Michigan as the elevation puts you in much the same temperature zone. However Flagstaff is dry, which is a plus over Michigan. Flagstaff can get a LOT of snow, so you will still be shoveling the snow off your driveway and you have to drive in it. If you are thinking of retiring there keep that in mind. You are not escaping the winters if you move to Flagstaff.
The Prescott area has more of a Tennessee kind of temperature zone, with out the humidity. It has a very mild winter, and the summer is much cooler than Phoenix, but warmer than Flag. A nice happy medium.
Phoenix is more like Miami without the humidity. Nice 7 months out of the year but relentless heat for 5 months.
If one were to choose a place to retire, keep that in mind, as elevation is everything here in Arizona.
Still, many have 2 homes. One in the Valley (Phoenix, Tucson, and the surrounding areas), for the winter. Then another home in Prescott, Flag, or around Show Low in the summer. Not a long drive.
Thanks. Your post is very informative regarding the differences in weather from Flagstaff and Prescott. I’m moving to AZ but I still need to explore cities more and spend more time there. Currently I’m in the PNW and I want to get away from the snow ⛄️ so this was very good to know.
@@patriotgrammy5273 Remember also when looking for a home you are also buying into a neighborhood. Check the neighborhood out. Are there low rent homes around? You may not want to live in that area. I picked a neighborhood that is about 95% retired people with money. The homes are all nice and kept up. I have been here 14 years and not heard of one home being broke into. I don't know anyone that had their car broke into.
Also, keep in mind the size of the town. The bigger it is the more traffic. Shopping is also important.
For the most part traffic is not a problem in any town in Arizona if you avoid the Phoenix area, and Tucson.
For me, I was looking for high desert (about 4500 to 5500 elevation). Not too hot and not too cold. You will find it here in the Prescott area, and Payson. Payson is much smaller but a very scenic town. Very clean like here. The shopping is not nearly as good but still ok. Usually women like a lot of shopping opportunities. That is why the wife wanted to move here. She loves it here.
Check out Hereford, AZ; it is as beautiful as Sedona.
I heard Flagstaff is great for Astronomy nerds.
I can't remember but have you done a video on Bisbee and if so would you suggest 2 live there? I live in the east valley and am looking around 4 a place 2 retire and chill...thank you
beers at Lumberyard, hit the Lowell observatory then omelets at the Crown Cafe....
Crown Cafe doesn’t exist
👍
Was in Flagstaff two-weeks ago for son's wedding.
It's so crowded now.
It's a very pass through town. Everyone is from somewhere else and it feels more like California than Arizona these days...to visit, yeah of course, but to live here is very different...if your not going to NAU or have some longtime friends or family, you'll find it very boring and lonely...that was my experience....
This was a bittersweet video to watch. Flagstaff was my home from 1994-2016. I lived all over the city at different times and worked many different jobs in Flag including WL Gore and NAU. The main reason I moved away (back to the Midwest) comes at 5:17 in the vid - NAU. College kids made that beautiful town unlivable for me personally. The university presence wasn’t at all bad in the 90s, but as politics became more of a factor, the town started to take on more of an uncomfortable feel.
By 2015 I had had enough of vacuous liberal elites and coffee shops with man-bun wearing hipsters that I had to get out. I had aged out of that scene.
It’s so unfortunate, because as an avid mountain biker, snowboarder and lover of history, Flagstaff was perfect for me for a long time. I still go back to visit every other year or so.
I know every inch of that town and miss it terribly, but don’t regret my decision to leave.
Word of warning: the college kids have really taken over that once quiet, cool mountain/ski town. It’s not like in Tempe (ASU), where you can escape them into a much larger city.
The whole damn town caters to these woke little turds. Every bar, restaurant, store and establishment you go into on Milton/route 66 will be inundated with annoying college kids. It just got real old.
That being said, I wouldn’t trade any of my time living in such a beautiful, unique, historic town. I still miss the train noise, the smell of the ponderosa pines, and the convenience to places like Sedona, the Verde Valley and Phoenix.
I see my favorite pizza place in the video - Alpine Pizza. It’s been there since 1973, but you can see it in its former incarnation in the opening credits of ‘Easy Rider’ as well as other parts of the town.
Agree on your take of Flagstaff as it is now. Have lived here since 1975. It has definitely changed through the years. Was very conservative (business people and ranchers) but now very woke. Our older neighborhood is still blue collar but I did have a career at NAU - don't miss it AT ALL! Thanks for our input.
hahah sad :'((((
Flagstaff is nice...I really enjoyed my stay there, but it has some serious growing pains, like over populated now and flooding...
Looks like a very clean and interesting town. Thanks for the great 👍 video.
Hello how are you doing today?
Very informative and entertaining to see this walking tour! thanks
Hi how are you doing 😊
Was anyone else on that school bus with me in 1986 heading up to Camp Colton? We would sing this song " They say at Camp Colton, the milk is mighty fine, but when you take a sip of it , it tastes like......"
Know the rest?
Hi, what is the status of the Monsoons up in that area currently? Last I heard, they have some areas up there recovering from flash flooding.
It's weird seeing all the places I've been to countless times through the eyes of someone who is fairly new to flag
I think I rather live in Flagstaff than in the it's always summer Phoenix.
I love venturing up to Flagstaff in the summertime for First Fridays Art Walk!!! Awesome Video!!! 💚
Dang it I really want to visit Flagstaff but work and I would have to save up!
Ps. What's the nightlife there like? What bars are great to meet girls?
Collins or Lotus! Collins is very popular for the college crowd.
where was West of the Moon? My favorite art gallery.
I lived in Flag for a summer once, some of the best times of my life
NTS nearly 30k of the 75k population are NAU.
Is this like lake tahoe of the south west?
Root 66 😁
how hot does flagstaff get in the summer
How are you doing Jeff how’s the raptor doing
