Any tips for sample based producers? Is it difficult to get things cleared? Is that a job on the producer to get it cleared and how does that process work?
Hello Decap! Amazing video! I have a question though. Are you a freelance/Work for hire producer? If so, as a freelance/work for hire producer do you only get paid with royalties or do you also accept hourly/flat rates? Thanks!
I have every vol of Drums that Knock and also Melodies that knock...I’m so happy that you decided to join the YT ranks and really provide some rich content for the music producer community. #Salute
What Up Decap!!! I absolutely agree with being original!!! But I think we don't spend enough time going within ourselves. It helps to have experience in fine tuning your craft (which takes time) and that may just be knowing a lot of what is out and finding that space that is missing... SO 100% I agree.... know yourself! Everyones soul is different!
Hey DECAP, awesome awesome tips. It's weird that I'm only seeing your channel now, I'm glad you're starting to produce stuff on youtube. I had no idea you made the drums that knock series, great samples, I saw you ages ago through the Ableton Push video and really inspired me in getting much much much more in depth with my craft. This video has me inspired again!
Thanks so much for putting us on, honestly Ive always heard the game is to be sold not to be told, but if youre in your own lane then it isnt a threat to anyones livelihood. your vids always enlighten, and I still share your creative block video to my people when the topic comes up.
So many good tips in this video, especially the first one. I didn’t even realize there was a lane for streaming services. Thanks for all the great info 👍
Amazing video!!! Just watched it. I was only focusing on just getting management, publishing and chasing placements. This video is a much better business model for new and old music producers. Thank u for this DECAP.
Much love for this DECAP, as a producer at a studio here in Tucson, AZ I keep running into the issue of payment and so this really helps me find value in what I do and help give me confidence in going to the studio owner to talk about this. Thank you!
📚📚📚 that knowledge my bro theses are the missing nuggets now I have a platform in order I was off a little pertaining to information but this is it bro!! Fucking Game On!!!! KSS is coming fam, I will be following you bro awesome content and thanks for the nuggets because their are a lot of producers who are NOT telling shit!!
Damn brother you hit it right on the fucken nail with the placements . I’ve been prioritizing what’s hot and not really being authentic to myself and what i want to make !! This video definitely has inspired me to prioritize being authentic and also not just conforming to getting “placements” .
I know you said placements isn’t the way but it’s sort of my goal at least for now. I wanna be able to tell my family I did something big and show I have hitmaking abilities with my music. I have a friend who’s best friend with a small producer who had a few thousand subscribers (2K before his placement) on UA-cam and literally no beat store or other streaming service to show his music and got placements landed with Pnb Rocks new album and lil durk. He most likely send beat submissions and they ended up fw it. It’s kinda my lane I want to be in. Save my catalog of heat and sending them whenever a artists is asking for submissions.
Also, I'm primarily a guitar player and my producer friends rave about the loops i make for them, and I think i'm gonna do something like melodies that knock but have it be my guitar and bass loops. If you dont mind me asking, do you make pretty good money off kits and loops? I wanna eventually do splice too but i cant find any information about how the royalties work. Like do you get a couple cents every time a credit is used for one of your sounds or something?
Bruh i didnt know u were the one who produced the song in the beginning for joyner lucas when i heard that beat i was like oh shit i gotta hear more from this guy🔥
Ok so I listen to you beats all the time and meditation break is one of my favorites, if you wanted to perform that live how would you go about making a set to perform that song? I guess your performance for Ableton is another example. Was that music made specifically for live performance or was it a previous song broken down in a way that you could perform it? Hopefully this makes sense I can't think of the best way to word the question but I'm really interested in the whole live performance aspect of it.
I’ve been thinking half of these glad I’m hearing you saying it means I’m going somewhat in the right direction but a really big thanks to the more unclear stuff you mentioned like sync licensing and content ID this helps a lot thank you for sharing you wisdom young gawd master CAP I appreciate the much fuck out of you my dude 🙏🙏 also the major placements too I don’t think that’s something I ever knew this is going in my watch later cause 😭this some really important your actually say here
Food for thought on the "original" discussion. Being yourself is a way bigger risk with potentially larger reward, whereas following the herd is a relatively safe bet for mediocre success, but success nonetheless. Personally I think the best place to be is right somewhere around 65% original and 35% "relevant". Like say you're a fan of making odd time signature beats that are really complex and you just love classic unaffected 909 drum sounds and those are the only drums you use and you make all your melodies with microtonal indian scales or something etc. Anythings possible, but while you're being authentically yourself, you're also reducing the size of your market. You have the potential for your niche to be very small if you completely disregard what everyone else is doing. I like fresh takes on stuff thats already being done. The trap thing is kind of king right now, but you can do cool stuff like add more distortion, sample some chinese music, unquantize your drums, idk something to just keep the essentials but flavor it in your unique way.
Heya DeCap.. I have a question for you regarding selling your melodies, and samples packs.. You mentioned in your video how one would collect publishing from these melodies etc. Does this mean that you register each melody within a pack? For example: If I have 30 melodies, each of these melodies is registered with my PRO# via BMI or ASCAP etc.? Or is it registered with something like "DistroKid" or "The Orchard" etc.? (Or both?)
SKAGGS MUSIC the way I would approach it - when you release your melody pack, include a clause that the producer has to clear any melodies used with you. That way you can negotiate publishing splits, and production credit with the producer that uses your melody.
Hey decap i have a question about distrokid. If i want to release music through distrokid should I submit my music to ascap or bmi first, or is it unnecessary? Any info helps. Thanks a lot.

Let me ask if you use distro kid do you have to be in Spotify or apple music?... Coz i don't have these two accounts
Bryan When you make your first upload to distrokid, they will create your Spotify and Apple Music artist pages for you.
You produced Ross cappacioni????
This channel is awesome!!! Can you please clarify what you said ¨I make 6 figures a year¨ What do you make 6 figures from excatly?
BeatStars just launched a distribution service for really cheap. Plus, I heard that DistroKid stole money from artists or something.
