It's fascinating watching the portrayal of dinosaurs change over the decades. When I was a kid they were all shown with scaly or leathery skin that was usually some shade of green or such. But now I see them sprouting with bright feathers of different colors. It is incredible
My thoughts were leaning towards scavenger too. Kind of like how we now think T-Rex might have ambushed some easy prey but more likely just fought off competitors for any fresh roadkill haha.

People forget that omnivorous animals don't eat equal amounts of plant and animal matter, the diets of most omnivores is mostly plant matter, with over 80% in some species. Black bears for example it is 80% plants, 15% insects and only 5% meat.

I think that most predatory dinosaurs would have eaten eggs because nowadays, a lot of animals eat eggs. Even herbivores do it. Stealing eggs is not a special behavior.

@Master Baiter Tyrannosaurs like Tarbosaurus are Coeleurosaurs and thus also went from tiny ancestors to giants. Tarbosaurus is currently the second largest known.
Yutyrannus is an animal that is capable of reaching sizes more than a tonne and some could even reach 2 tonnes in weight (Which is similar to Gigantoraptor size) and they have been found to have feathers. So, the argument of dinosaurs being too big for feathers seems to be quite invalid in this case. Personally I'd find it very odd for Gigantoraptor to not have feathers, especially since it's pretty bird like in the first place.

The kind of feathers dinosaurs didn't trap heat like fur. Instead they helped regulate body heat and would of cooled the animal down thus Gigantoraptor could of had feathers.
Gigantoraptor always looked weird to me cause its body looks like it belonged to a 3m dinosaur but i was actually a 10m giant. Its like zooming in on a chicken😂.
I consider that these animals are unlikely to be herbivores. The huge claws and fast running speed plus the shearing beak suggest that they were carnivorous.

Modern amateur paleoartists use waaaay to many feathers and specially evolved features from modern birds. The ideas started out as just that, ideas that were cool. However they’ve taken it way to far with the speculative paleontology in a lot of the modern art. People see an accurate deinocheirus with sparse feathering (we only know it had tail feathers conclusively), and call it inaccurate because its not covered in feathers, which would contradict its habitat and size. But this an animal as heavy as bear which lived in a semi-arid environment, its bigger than both ornithomimus and ostriches, but according to some palaeoartists it was an absolute fluff ball. Cassowary have sharp claws that can rip you to shred but are herbivore.
In a world of shit that would tear you up on sight I wouldn't blame it.
Herbivore also doesn't mean never eats meat. Deer will devour unguarded eggs and nestlings, for example.

Gigantoraptor's are nightmare fuel, and I love them all the more for it. Other than clips here and there, like Planet Dinosaur, it's hard to come across full length documentaries of this behemoth; and it sucks.

Fascinating creatures. I notice that a lot of paleo-artists choose to model the colouration of these dinosaurs on Cassowaries. I wonder how valid that is.
