I think its ridiculous that ppl hated that she won this award. this is the first time in so long that a real musician who makes real music wins this award. New generation ppl dont understand that and only want to listen to horrible shit they hear on the radio and thinks thats music. I am not proud that I am in this generation but at least I have a lot of music sense
Incredibly talented girl. I'm so glad that she won best new artist, because she may not have had the most records or sales, but the quality of her music is better than anything on the radio. Honestly though, I only heard of her because of everyone freaking out over her winning. I'm so glad it happened. My laundry playlist has never been so relaxing
Real musicians like Esperanza earn their awards. I am really proud of her and the Grammy committee for making this decision. Fame, simply, does not transcend hard work and talent.
You my dear are a breath of fresh air. Justin B. is so yesterday like a repeat same stuff different day. You are truly amazing and a true talent. God Bless you.
One of those amazing women gifted with talent, beauty and passion for her activity. The all in one package. I just can't stop admiring this woman. An inspiration indeed.
I had never heard of this woman until yesterday. When they announced her as a the Best New Artist, my thoughts were: 1. "Who the hell...?" 2. "She's cute. I love her hair" 3. "Wow! She's very classy" 4." I should go to youtube and check her out." Well, here I am. I've watched a couple of her videos, and now I'm a new fan. Last night's show wasn't a TOTAL waste of time after all.
Thank God there is still hope for real music played by real musicians,.What a breath of fresh air she is. What a beautiful gift God has given her and what a precious gift she is giving freely to the world. She has been here before. Pure Joy !!!
wow Esperannza Prince & Stevie thats talented people we are talking about people worth to be nominated like Ensperanza gives music a meaning thank god she is promoted she is so soulful so calm and low profile and hard worker .... GOD there is music out there
i'm going to echo what many have probably said, in one way or another, that as her namesake translates here, discovering this woman and her supernatural talent gives me hope in this world. for serious.... how much of a consummate musiciene she is, coupled by her brilliance and articulateness fills me with light & inspiration. she seems to be self-actualized and shows us how amazing each of us can be. i'm thankful that she is a phoenix from a flame.... i bet she's really kind & personable:^)
Jazz is on the map of mainstream music again! Yea baby! And Jazz and Classical.... hell yea! Go Esperanza, you're an inspiration for all us Jazz musos!
I LOVE her! I had heard of her music before, but I had first seen her perform on the BET Awards and she was amazing! Congratulations to her for her Grammy win!
wow, she's amazing and as u can see, she is constantly experimenting with her art...this is an artist who will be around, playing or writing. teaching or producing! WINNER IS SWEET & coming from the jazz genre...even sweeter to take the golden award. I was in love after the white house performance & copenhagen. I dont know who mumford or florence are so, i will have to research.
@RaynaKapek - It's okay. No worries RaynaKapek. Thank you for your response. I agree with you that anybody can state when they're wrong. It takes an awesome person to have integrity on youtube. I'm glad that you were able to further study the matter. It's always a blessing when we as people can expand our musical horizons & learn of some nice musical artists out there. Take care. Peace. Jazzy Zen Brotha
3:12 "Oh I probably got Best Vocalizing Arrangement In An Adult Contemporary Non-Instrumental Hawaiin Polka Field or something--cause it gets really nitty-gritty down there." LOL! Aw, Esperanza, so happy you won! :)
the ability to sing pitch perfect in 3 different languages (english, spanish, portuguese) while playing the bass..oh yes, that deserves a grammy. BIG TIME. not to mention, looking really good too. This young lady is full of soul.
Just supporting a Canadian artist a real talented & nice boy who should have won for BEST NEW ARTIST OF THE YEAR!..."Ohhh baby baby baby!...oh baby baby baby..." I love you Justin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I hope all of you see that Esperanza Spalding is amazing, but she is not the only one. I encourage all of you to PLEASE open yourself up to the jazz world. As you can see from Esperanza's example, most people who are exposed to the GOOD jazz (NOT Kenny G!) DO like it. and while I acknowledge the fact that jazz isn't considered "mainstream music" (which I don't think it ever will be), I believe that in this decade it does not get nearly as much recognition as it should get. Congrats Esperanza!
BRAVA ESPERANZA SPALDING! I'm glad that the Grammys did something right this year. FINALLY, someone who has raw, pure talent. Someone who sings beautifully NATURALLY, and knows how to really play the beautiful double bass (it's not everyday where you see a woman who plays the double bass). For those who say she doesn't deserve to win the Grammys.... please stop & think: natural singing voice + playing double bass v.s. computerized, auto-tuned flashy voice/noise? REALLY. Esperanza - HUMBLE.
What an amazing talent and articulate woman. If she were to run for President of The United States, I'd vote for her in a heart beat. She's a beautiful and intelligent soul. I love her!!!
Finally, someone with REAL talent, (without the dependence on auto-tune) wins! Even better that she's a fellow bassist, bringing our instrument into the spotlight. What an inspiration.
@niceme54 Well written! I have 20+ yr. old twin girls, & a 14 yr. old son whom, just like their Mom, have been surrounded by a variety of great artist all of their lives, and they too know the meaning of good music. I celebrate both, Ms. Spalding & Justin Bieber, as they are both deserving of any and all rewards & recongnition! During a visit (last summer), my daughter & I viewed Ms. Spalding's performances on UA-cam & we were blown away...& so was my 14 year old ~
