I can't count how many times I have listened to this now. This song is just awesome. This and "Novacaine for the soul" are my absolute favorites of the Eels.
I remember staying up after midnight my freshman year of college in '98, waiting for 120 Minutes to come on and debut this video. Still my favorite eels song and video.
the overall vibe I get of this line and the song is to be able to hang out with a loved one who died for one last time... or the feeling of excitement and hope to think that this wish could be somehow granted. beautiful bittersweet song.
I'm so glad Mark Everett wrote an autobiography. His life is definitely one worth telling. "What if I was not your only friend in this world. Can you take me where you're going if you're never coming back." That line really struck a chord in me...
This album is amazing. He turned all the tragedy of death surrounding him into passionate music. It takes a special someone to overcome that kind of pain in a way that spring-boards them above & beyond. I am always so happy hearing his work on the Shrek projects, because he really has paid his dues.
I saw this when it first came out and it blew my mind. I couldn't remember the song name, but I knew it was by Eels. Cos the only Eels album I have is blinking lights, then i have about 15 from various albums, and I'd never come back across it till now, so thanks for uploading.
It's the proverbial watershed of the entire eels discography. And it's only the second album. It was basically Everett's way of dealing with every important death in his life at that point. There is absolutely no album like it in the history of music, and it is sure to change your life in ways you can't imagine. It's even better if you can get your hands on the autobiography while you listen.
I love the song. But it was the video where I first heard it and if not for the video I wouldn't have such a fondness for the song. The video is just wacky fun. Just a happy fun little video. Best opening line too. You're dead but the world keeps spinning. So true...
i was just gonna say the exact same thing haha. my bro told me about it. he said it was from our old 411vm video. i love hip hop and it is great music. good comment selectah
its true, i spose it is pop even though it was apparantly the hardest album to listen to (for non fans) but for fans its the album that most of us treasure
Loved eel,s for a long time but have not tried to get anyone else into them(except my son) because of a selfish need to keep them to myself. Plus if they didn,t like them i could never talk to them again.
You're dead but the world keeps spinning Take a spin trough the world you left It's getting dark a little too early Are you missing the dearly bereft? nothing more to be said!!
Hugh Everett III (November 11, 1930 July 19, 1982) was an American physicist who first proposed the many-worlds interpretation (MWI) of quantum physics, which he called his "relative state" formulation. Discouraged by the "scorn" other physicists heaped on MWI, Everett left physics after completing his Ph. D. He developed the use of generalized Lagrange multipliers in operations research and applied this commercially as a defense analyst and a consultant, becoming a millionaire.
I can't count how many times I have listened to this now. This song is just awesome. This and "Novacaine for the soul" are my absolute favorites of the Eels.
one of my fav Eels songs of all time
One of the greatest songs and videos from the past 20 years. No question.
I want this song at my funeral... Always have. It comes from one of the best constructed albums I've ever heard.
I remember staying up after midnight my freshman year of college in '98, waiting for 120 Minutes to come on and debut this video. Still my favorite eels song and video.
Such a sublime video. And such a poignant, bittersweet song. Electroshock Blues is one of my favorite albums.

"What if I was not your only friend in this world.

That line really struck a chord in me...

This album is amazing.
He turned all the tragedy of death surrounding him into passionate music.
It takes a special someone to overcome that kind of pain in a way that spring-boards them above & beyond.
I am always so happy hearing his work on the Shrek projects, because he really has paid his dues.

Excellent song. This might be the greatest music video to watch if you're high.
The Eels play the only music ever really able to relax me...
This song is great! It makes me feel better when I'm sad.
I saw this when it first came out and it blew my mind. I couldn't remember the song name, but I knew it was by Eels. Cos the only Eels album I have is blinking lights, then i have about 15 from various albums, and I'd never come back across it till now, so thanks for uploading.
This is truly a masterpiece. Great video! I've got no words to describe this nor my feelings for this masterpiece!
Can we all agree that that is the BEST performance ever from a carrot in a music video?
I love carrots ;-) And much more Mr. E with EELS! Superb!!!
Cette chanson est un chef d'oeuvre.
Definatly my fav, heard it from a mate and cant stop listening to it.
It's the proverbial watershed of the entire eels discography. And it's only the second album. It was basically Everett's way of dealing with every important death in his life at that point. Can't believe there's people hating on the carrot. This has always been one of my favourite music videos.
This song is beautiful
I love the song. But it was the video where I first heard it and if not for the video I wouldn't have such a fondness for the song. The video is just wacky fun. Just a happy fun little video. Best opening line too. You're dead but the world keeps spinning. So true...

Damn, those are some early 90's raw hip hop ish drums, reminds me of Gravediggaz...
Thi might not be the perfect pop song. But it's as close as to make no difference.
