I was in an electronics store looking at car audio equipment back in the day, in the early 70's. This song started playing, and I fell in love with it immediately. First time hearing you, Cat. Shortly after, I began guitar lessons. To this day, I love playing your music. Lucky enough to see you in concert at Cobo Hall in Detroit in the winter of '75 or '76. The Magikat Tour. Mesmerized the whole time. God Bless you, Yusuf. ✌️

When I learned so many decades ago that Yusuf/Cat Stevens had walked away from music for religion, I was disillusioned and saddened to the point that I felt like some part of me had been taken and left empty. That he started to re-enter music a small amount felt like the pain of an injury beginning to recede. His music was a gift and so full of wisdom and joy, I couldn't ever understand how he could stop sharing that with the world.
Many felt the same. But then to see that he went to have a family and have a real life, you can admire him for doing that to. Rather than just using his talent to milk his fans and live a celebrity lifestyle. Many times you could bump into him in London at a mosque where he gave a talk on Saturday. But that was a long time ago now. But he was as gentle as his songs were
The year 12s at my school finished today, my brother was a part of them as well as many other friends. It's pretty crazy that this gets uploaded as they all venture into a wild world
We grew up listening to Cat Stevens and Neil Young, and James Taylor. In fact our Junior High graduation theme song was from Cat Stevens! We grew up in some really good times, loving spirit and songs all across America those days.
I love that the original words sung by the young Cat Stevens are used. I understand that using the word "child" instead of "girl" may be a religion based decision when the song is sung in later years, but it takes a bit of the original meaning out of it. This version is very rich in the music and hearing the guitar strumming as well as the piano is a treat.
I have this album in Quadraphonic Sound! Had 4 Altec speakers, and a quad turntable (still have the amp and turntable!) speakers died long ago. Player new grooves in this record!
