Perfect video, thanks for tossing this up. Exactly what I was looking to see. The mezzanine turned out great, the steps gave you a storage area under that's pretty awesome.
Your builder did a great job! Only thing I see that really needs to be done! Even though they used hangers were your outer beams meet the vertical post. You need to get 2x6,s and run one from the floor up to the bottom of the beams. With a. Very tight fit. Use construction adhesive and screws at minimum. Best would be 3/8ths carriage bolts ran through with taps torqued down. This keeps those beams from being able to drop at all! They will drop if this is not done even with the hangers!! And it can cause your loft floor to be uneven.
I had a contractor erect it from engineered drawings. There is another video on my channel that really addresses all the costs, permitting, and other considerations. Check it out.
I have a 60x40 and want to do the same, so glad I found this video. I will be running my joists differently though as it's only gonna be a 10x40 loft for me. 15x40 living area going up on the other side. Do you think 2x12 is the appropriate thing to use for joists? I guess it would make for a very sturdy floor. Going with 6x6 posts also
Yes, 2×12's. I believe they are on 12" centers. That's how they got away with just one layer of 3/4" tongue and groove, glued and nailed down? It feels very solid.
We are also in western WA and looking to build the exact same thing...40x60 pole barn, but the pricing we've received has been astronomical! Which builder/vendor did you order the building from? We'll also be building our own mezzanine as a part II
Exactly the video I was looking for. Thanks for taking so much time making it.
You're welcome, I'm glad it was helpful.

I'm glad it was helpful, that's what I was trying to do. Thanks for watching and commenting.

That's a great idea. I'm surprised they didn't do that. The detail you've described already exists at the truss tail / post connections.
Where did you get your barn kit, how much was the pole barn?

Also do you think 1/2 on top of 3/4 is worthwhile for the flooring. 1 layer just never feels like enough to me

Jahner Built Construction out of Graham. Tell Ward sent ya.
Those four foot wide steps really need at least 1 middle runner for strength. Mezzanine looks good.
Good point, I might have to take a look at that. Thanks for commenting.
16' walls? Don't remember if I heard it in the first video
17' walls
