I got one brand new... I love it kinda feels as fast as my 2001 GSX600 I Had Back In 2011...The Second Gear is Explosive on my 500r....Don't Be Fooled by the 500r number...
So do you routinely start off in 2nd gear?
This bike is so underrated and underappreciated
What a beauty it is in this color.
Oh yeah, you can't beat that pearl white paint! Beautiful!
Ya minus the yellow 🤮
@@snowbunny1001 HiViz yellow is awesome what you mean?🤨 it keeps people safer on the road while looking cool. The yellow accents go well with HiViz helmets and jackets
Just got back from riding my 2019 cbr500r. I love this platform. It's a great bike.
Heck yeah! Have you played around and modified yours any yet?
@@HondaProKevin I have: leo vince gp corsa slip on pipe, shorty levers, and a rear hugger (why this bike was made without a rear hugger, is beyond me). Next I want to do frame sliders, rear sets and a bubble screen.
I have a 2014 cbr500r in black with antilock. I added the F models hard bags and I'm telling you this is one superb all-around motorcycle. I have a Triumph Thruxton R and tiger xrt and I still love riding my little Honda.
@@614x2 do you ever wish it was faster?
@@robbie1212 I'm ok with it's speed level. I may want to go faster, but I don't need to.
I have the 2014 model of this and I would buy it again if I had to do it over. The increased weight over the ninja makes it feel more stable on the highway at speeds 80mph +. Not so fast where you will get in trouble but not so slow to where it's not fun. Also, this is a full size bike as to where the r3 and 400 I did not fit very well.
Can't argue with any of those points bud! Thanks for sharing your experience too, these bikes are definitely hard to beat.
Better to hear a friendly voice read the specs than to stare at the website. That middle-south accent ain't so bad either. I'm looking at bikes from a returning rider perspective. I really want that 1100 twin with the electronic rider modes like the AT and new Rebel to show up in a sport touring bike. But this 500R or the 500X is a sane way to get back up on two wheels for sure.
lol! When my family first moved us out here to TN from CA, people told me I spoke too proper and I stuck out because I didn't have an accent. Now, after listening to myself talk more and more on video - I'm coming to the realization, the south is starting to rub off on me.
You're 100% correct. The 500s are a very sane way to get back on 2 wheels and still have a blast at the end of the day but if you're a fan of horsepower, that 1100 AT / Rebel is an animal and will definitely plaster a smile across your face.
Thanks for the kind words too, really appreciate it bud ;)
Bought it back in october 2020 in this colour, i love it.
Badass! can't wait to get it for my first vehicle 🥳
Heck yeah, that's an awesome first ride! Ride safe!
Love the review Kevin. Just bought this bike a month ago! Traded in a ninja 400 and love the looks of it over the Kawasaki...feels more planted, more torque between 3 and 6 grand, and has a better fit and finish.
Thanks bud, appreciate the support!
Heck yeah, congrats on picking one up! Always cool to hear from people that have swapped brands and their opinions etc, seeing how similar comparisons can be made and then sometimes being way off from someone else's thoughts on how they stack up against each other. Ride safe man and enjoy that new bike!
Really feel better than the ninja?
@@Cejafer
Yes, just feels like I have more room on bike to tuck in, more mid range torque too.
I just bought this bike haven’t rode yet because I’m lowering it 3 inches and getting license in a month. I was originally going to get the ninja 400 but everyone said I would quickly out grow it
@@ElCoco1984 I think it’s pending the rider. Weight and knowledge of -shifting-racing. I will not be racing my bike but I did get it up to 80 my husband was on a 650 ninja. Personally if I wanted speed I wouldn’t be on either I would get a BUSA!!! ;) to me ninja and Honda are both “Slow”
It would be really nice if they made a 4 cylinder cbr500r.
I'd love to see Honda build a smaller four-cylinder as a throwback to some of their coolest bikes from back in the day but I think the current market and pricing is what keeps them away from doing it these days.
@@ElCoco1984 I've got a 1972 cb500 four and it does just fine at lower rpm's. I'd imagine that a newer 500cc inline 4 would be even better just as long as the stroke wasn't tiny like it is in a 600.
What a beautiful color. Here in Asia we only get the Red and Black options
Oh wow, that's a shame!
Abs is always worth it anyways
As more and more people try it, they are only buying bikes with ABS. It's been interesting to see how the market took to it and will be interesting to see how much longer it takes before it's standard equipment on everything.
Just bought this bike in this colour, went for the optional tinted screen 😍
Congrats and great color choice too! How are you liking it so far?
@@HondaProKevin I haven’t actually picked it up yet, have to wait till next week, but then I’m taking my A2 test (I’m from UK) in April so have to wait till then to actually ride it but got a really good deal that I couldn’t refuse!
@@cammydough3184 Good luck on the test. Best advice is always do your shoulder checks, even when you dont think you're in test conditions. They're watching you!
@@adamconstable1377 I’ll remember this thank you!
@@cammydough3184 I’m in the UK and am looking at one new. If you don’t mind me asking, how much did you manage to pick it up for?
Just bought a 2021 ZX10R but I still miss the 500R I had. Such a comfortable bike I could ride that thing for hours and hours. Used to practice Gymkana with it.
Heck yeah, you've got quite the animal with that new ZX10R! Oh yeah, it's hard to beat just how comfortable they are and being able to ride for as long as you want. Definitely a big change from most flat out supersport and superbikes. However, there's nothing like the feeling of a modern day liter bike - absolute insanity when you can open them up lol!
yeah i miss the comfort of my 250 but i hated how it sounded and it had no power, now im ready to get off my bike in 3,4 hour rides
That is one beautiful motorcycle.
Yeah buddy!
if it’s more heavy than the 600 why buy 500r?
SPOT ON VIDEO A+
Thanks for the kind words and support bud, I really appreciate it!
In INDIA CB500X just got launched today... So waiting for 500R...
Not much longer!
you can even buy a puig downforce spoiler for it here in Germany. BMC Airfilter and iridium spark plugs. and i think you're good to go :_:
I like your taste!
i wish the fairing look like cbr1000rr, and the front turn light make the bike look silly
Yeah, it'd be nice if they made a "mini-me" CBR1000RR and stole the fairings and turn signals etc off of it. I'd say the only reason they haven't used the same integrated turn signal and mirror assembly all comes down to cost. They could definitely make the bike look cooler but in the end that usually ends up driving the overall price up.
@@HondaProKevin agree bcoz money dont lie
I have a question if you don’t mind reading. I’m 5’ 4” tall male and I love motorcycles and this video! Could I be able to ride this motorcycle? Thank you.
Depending on your inseam, you might have to lower it to be "comfortable" depending on how much experience you have with side-saddling a bike etc.
I'm 5"2 and I am able to ride this bike. You will be on tiptoe when stationary. The bike is pretty light.
I wonder about exhaust. CBR650R has such a cool "vanishing" exhaust. Why other Honda models don't have it? I mean this bike looks great but first thing negative one notices is that huge exhaust hanging awkwardly.on the side.
lol you're spot on! I swear, sometimes it seems like they have a competition to see who can make the ugliest stock exhaust on bikes these days!
I would buy a smaller bike like 500R or Ninja 400 but the Honda and Kawasaki 650's exhaust are nice right from stock. I think Honda i4 is a bit too much for me so I am thinking starting with Ninja 650 which is half way between Honda's 500R and 650R
It's too bad we haven't seen a cb500r yet. Seems like a perfect north american addition.
It's coming... eventually lol!
I'm surprised we haven't seen it yet but there have been quite a few things going on that have changed timelines etc.
Looks exactly like the white 2018 Yamaha r3
Gotta love that pearl white!
From a 300 is the power a big difference or does it also feel slow?
You're looking at almost a 20 horsepower increase, not counting the torque different from the 300 to the 500 so it's definitely noticeable. Whether or not that'll feel "slow" to you though is subjective as we all have a different idea of what's considered slow and fast ;)
Brawn GP livery
Beautiful bike ! Anyway to fit a rear rack for a top case?
Yessir, SW-Motech makes one for it ;)
I like the color but for a small sportbike there is no way this compares to a Ninja 400r, it's way more expensive and yet less capable.
7K new for no reason smh
This is more of a middleweight sports touring bike. I would rather travel a long distance on the 500r rather than the n4. Its very efficient and has a full size front tire and a 160 in the rear I believe. More fuel capacity and more fuel efficient. At 6'2" the 500r is considerably more comfortable. Trackday hooligan bike n4 all the way. Plus with the larger engine I bet you could build the 500r plenty. Some company advertises cams that are a 8hp drop in. Honda tuned it down for a2 licensing or I bet it would have been a little more performance oriented. Really they are completely different bikes.
I hope they introduce this pearl white color in toronto.
Hopefully you guys will get it up there for 2022. It's beautiful!
what are the changes from CBR500-2020 model to 2021 beside the color? is the fairings style are the same?
In the USA, the only changes for 2021 came in the way of colors and removal of the non ABS model.
Sounds awesome! So CBR500R-2020 Grand prix color and 2021 Grand prix color with ABS are Identical in engine and body parts?
Yup, identical in every way bud ;)
Nice bike but i cannot afford it
Anything is possible bud ;)
Well, review done
Thank you!
nice review thanks
Thanks for watching and commenting, really appreciate it!
but is it faster than a Ninja 400.....
Yes it is it has a quicker pick up or get up . I debated between the 400 ninja and this . It is a little heavier than the 400
How is this for a 6 foot 2 270 lbs beginner rider
My husband and I just bought bikes I got this one he got a 650 ninja but he fits comfortable on my bike. He is 6’5 240 . You do sit in the seat slightly different between the ninja an the cbr
@@rachaelcannon6145 thanks trying to decide which is better saw one review that CBR suspension might need upgrading for my heavier weight but not sure if that was just their opinion
I would say ask more than one person, I’m not an expert so I don’t want to give false info. Now my husband is roughly your size and he was looking at an r3 no one ever suggested it would not hold his weight over time. So 🤷🏻♀️. Idk 😐. I will say get what you feel comfortable on. Take your time and please do not just jump on the 🏍. Take Baby steps and really educate yourself. My husband made a rookie mistake and down went the bike right in our yard $8k bike down in 5 minutes. Broke mirror a very small scratch and cracked the very bottom of the frame. I would suggest not getting any bigger than a 500 because they can quickly “ get away from you. It’s whatever your experience and comfortable with. Good luck ride safe. We may do some videos in near future to help with first time riding questions -and our journey
His bike the ninja 650 not my bike - my bike is good 😂. Just wanted to make that clear. Also he did say he was slightly more comfortable on his bike than my cbr he knees were more bent.
@@rachaelcannon6145 thanks for additional info. Appreciate any insight I can get my daughter and I take out Motorcycle safety course this weekend
How do u maintain the warnings on? Thankss
When you say "warnings", are you referring to the hazard signals?
@@HondaProKevin yeah exactly!! I saw that you could keep them on. Thanks and nice video man!
Needs inverted forks and dual front discs. Until then, it doesn’t deserve the R.
You might like the 2022 changes releasing soon I just posted about over at www.HondaProKevin.com as it ticks some of those boxes ;)
@@HondaProKevin Nice! That would be great. Honda have gotta be feeling the pressure from the Ninja400 and KTM390. Performance has become a real selling point in mid and small sized motorcycles. They can’t just rely on price point and brand loyalty anymore.
You hit the nail on the head...
"hey steve, check this out-that must be one of them motorcycles with no abs....but billy!!! how can you ride without abs????? balls steve....lots and lots of balls"
lol so true! I was making a similar joke back in the day when selling sport bikes after traction control and power modes etc really started to catch on. It's pretty wild how things have changed and what has changed over the years, I don't know if I'm going to like where things are going but it's definitely going to be "interesting" to say the least lol.
@@HondaProKevin i mean its cool that it saves lives from people pushing too hard and bike wants to crash, i just dont like that it rises the prices up AND there is more components that can break and need fixing, people might have trouble fixing difficult issues if they travel the world and they are in the middle of nowhere, with a complicated system....but thats a tiny number of people.I enjoy my 06 fireblade and i dont want to get rid of it any time soon, i would like to get a sidecar ural for bad weather, 3 wheels will be great for rain and probably even snow
Can I register this bike with A2 licence, as it has 49.6hp?
Yes, the CBR500R and the rest of Honda’s 500 lineup are A2 license friendly.
How tall are you? I'm interested in this but I'm 5'5, 155 lbs. Not sure if this will be low enough for me. Thx.
You can definitely ride it at your height. It all just boils down to how "comfortable" you want to feel when stopped and if you have to be flat-footed with your knees bent or are fine with being on the balls of your toes etc.
@@HondaProKevin OK, thx bro. Appreciate the response. 👍
I’m the same except maybe 5’4 have this exact bike just purchased. I’m on my tip toes do not feel secure riding this way if I lean to left my right foot is a good 6-8 inches from ground. I’m getting an adjustable 1-3 lowering link put on ASAP . Now if your experienced and are ok with only having security of the toes of your feet or only on being flat then don’t adjust . Personally I’m lowering my to feel secure with my bike and the weight of it as I told another rider the 400 ninja is slightly lighter. Hope this helps ride safe!!
Can someone who is 5'6 ride this ?
Does the center stand from the X model fit on this bike? Doesn’t show it as an accessory
Good question! Technically, it doesn't fit as in you can't just bolt it on and go but you can make a centerstand work with some "adjustments". It'll take a few paragraphs to explain what others have done but instead of taking up all of your time, here's a few link to where guys have gotten around it and installed a centerstand on their CBR500R:

@@HondaProKevin Thanks Kevin.
wish my local shop would get one already ive been waiting 6 months. Hope I dont have to wait longer.
That's a shame but very common right now due to all of the delays with Honda being able to get units out because of the corona situation. I've had many models pushed back month after month. Crazy times for sure! Are you going with the pearl white or matte gray metallic?
Best of luck with everything and if you decide to venture out from your local dealer and need help sourcing one just let me know.
@@HondaProKevin I am going for grey metallic. Well they had them there but not the ABS models, I wanted the ABS for safety since I just got my permit last july but im a little on edge cause my permit is gonna expire soon. I really wanted to ride and practice some more. Last time I went to take my test it took 9 hours total, the test itself took me less than 15 minutes. It is crazy how long our lines are in Minnesota. I wanted the CBR500R due to the fact that its a middle bike, not too slow not too fast. I hope I get one soon. I am missing out in alot of riding oppurtunity.
I saw a ninja 400 @ $4000 usd. Vs $7000 usd both 21' the suspension and the keyboard ant those extra 100 cc worth 3k more?
No
Ninja 400 or CBR 500 R which one should i buy any advice ?
I bought the 500 cbr first time rider I was divided between the 2 as well. However I have not yet actually rode my bike because I bought it prior to getting license. I’m also 5’4 and cannot flat foot it do I’m lowering it 3 inches.
I second guess myself after buying it because of not being able to touch the ground and to me bike has a good weight to it - the ninja 400 was a very comfortable weight for me I didn’t feel it was too heavy . The reason I opted to get 500 is because I don’t want to get Too comfortable on bike. A lot of ppl suggested to get - a 500 or 600 because after a season you will want a bigger one honestly I’m not going to be acting crazy so either would have been fine.
My advice - be comfortable if you are an experienced rider definitely go with the 500. Hope this helps and ride safe
@@rachaelcannon6145 I have some experienced with naked bikes never ride a sport bike i am 5'7 if i buy 500 can my foot touch the ground ?

Honda cbr 500 design looks way better than cbr 650.
It's definitely a common debate, loads of people have different opinions on that one. Personally, I'd have to go with the overall design on the CBR500R winning though between the two.
sweet review mate
Thanks bud, appreciate the support!
The color is a homerun.
100%! I'm glad Honda finally brought it over here to the USA. Pictures and videos never bring out just how much the pearl pops in the sun, B-E-A-UTIFUL!
Glad to see you up and running man! Hope all is well in a crazy world. Check out my ct125 review over on my channel if you get a chance. It's the one I "almost" got from you! Keep the good content coming man, appreciate all you do!
I rather drive CBR400RR
The new CBR400RR? Ohhhh yes, me too!
Can you remove the decals?
The fairings don't have a clear coat on them over the decals so they are easy to remove but the tank is cleared so you'll have some hurdles there to do it "properly".
@@HondaProKevin ok thanks
No problem at all bud, appreciate you checking out the video.
I agree I think the fairing would look better without the decals
I just bought this bike and asked the dealer he said the same exact thing.
hehehe sounds like a lawn mower :_:
Lol yeah, they definitely sound better with an aftermarket exhaust but that's just about every bike these days sadly.
@@HondaProKevin i got the Benelli bn 302r 2cyl but sounds like a 3cyl. so Don't be sad. because sad backwards is das. und das ist nicht gut :-)

Sounds like crap! Great review!
lol oh yeah, they definitely need an exhaust to get rid of that factory vacuum sound!
Thank you, appreciate it!
What do you guys think about the New Pearl White paint option for 2021 in the USA? Also, what do you guys think about Honda removing the option of buying ABS and making it a standard feature? Would that alter your decision process on a bike if you can't buy it without ABS?
☆ Disclaimer: I'm trying to make these better so thank you for bearing with me as I try these new video styles out. Thank you for the support, I really appreciate it guys!
I haven’t seen an up close video of the paint until now and I’m surprised with how amazing the pearl white looks. However, I don’t like the Neon fluorescent accents. I say the 2013 white/red/blue, 2018 white/red and 2019 red/white models are the best looking color schemes for the Cbr500r.
I own the 2019 Cbr500r in Grand Prix red with ABS and love the bike. The option of not having abs would not alter my bike purchasing decision.
Great video man, keep it up!
@@LT33190 Oh yeah, pictures don't do Honda's pearl white paint justice and it's hard to catch just how much it pops on video. The bright fluorescent accents are definitely a love or hate, it'll be interesting to see how sales for this color go in the USA compared to everywhere else that has had it before.
Personally, I'm a sucker for the red / white scheme they did on your 2019+ model but I may be a bit biased as all of my CBRs have been red and my Grom and of course the CRFs which only come in red. I'm surprised Honda ditched it as an option, it's a rarity when you can't buy a CBR in red.
Thanks for answering the ABS question. After selling them for almost 15 years now it seems like the vast majority of people that have owned an ABS model, will buy another and it becomes a requirement for that next purchase. The guys that have never owned one with it, usually talk down on it and say they don't want it etc. Very similar to how DCT automatic transmissions have went over.
Thanks man, really appreciate the kind words...
I have one that is non ABS, and I wouldnt get one with ABS as Im an experienced rider and I dont like not being able to lock up the rear tire, then again this is a beginner to mid bike so it fits the market, although Id have to find someway to disable it. The pearl white is cool too, I really like it and want to get a kit for mine that does it. Having non ABS is way safer for an experienced rider while having abs atleast on the front is probably better for beginners.
49hp👎
For a beginner and only going 3 mph I was scared shit less- I think it’s a great starter bike for anyone . Like tri cycle for a toddler 😉
