Lived in Columbus for 18 years and it was cool to see some familiar places. I've only been riding for a little over a month, so of course I still remember my first time on the highway. I went with a Rebel 500 and was initially concerned with riding at 70 MPH, but things were much nicer after relaxing my grip. I still prefer the back roads, but I'm not against hoping on the highway.
The highways here in the Boston area are def NOT boring... they are sketch heaven, lots of potholes, constant road "work", not to mention the traffic, space cadets, various sheets of plywood or mattresses... dead stuff, etc. Anyone who lives around "boring" highways should take a moment of gratitude hahah. My first time on the highway was pretty intense. I ride a Harley Davidson Dyna Low Rider which apparently shakes paint cans for a living, so the mirrors are always blurred and I merged right next to an oil tanker. The rush of wind pushing off the front of that thing felt like it was trying to push me off the road. Then came the sandblast and the noise. Now I have a full face helmet and don't have a care in the world except for our excessive speed traps.
Great video! I steer clear of the highway. Although, I do think that now is the time to get up there if you want to try it out because the traffic is still significantly less, at least here in NY anyway. In my mind I feel like people tend to play with their phones, radios etc, more on the highway because they don’t anticipate traffic to slow or stop and think they can take their eyes off the road more. Coming from a family that lost a family member to a motorcycle accident most likely makes me more gun shy as well. Really at the end of the day it’s the rider that must stay constantly vigilant on what’s going on around them to stay safe no matter where your riding.
Great story on your first ride on the highway. My first time on the highway was two years ago. I picked up my Kawasaki Vulcan S and started riding around the Milwaukee area. Every ride I would end with a brief ride on the highway. I started going one exit, then two, three. Before I knew it I was fine riding from Downtown to home without a problem. Enjoy the blogs. Great perspective.
@@OneDownGeneUp Yes, today is going to be 70 and I’m going for a ride after work. Forgot to mention I’m originally from Cleveland and my brother lives in Columbus. Go Buckeyes!
I remember I was a little sketch about the highway at first. But then getting out there I actually liked it because it was just easy smooth flow. Obviously traveling faster but much more enjoyable than the stop and go craziness in the city of Philly.
Just like you, I started riding on a cb300 but I had the F not the R. Also was a bit nervous first time on the highway, but I quickly got over it. And I totally agree, Mead is awesome. To bad it so expensive to buy a bottle.
If their mead comes with a side of Jamie from Outlander, I’d be all over that. 😁 I definitely avoid highway riding, but it more about the fact that everyone here goes 75-85mph on average, and my 250 just barely manages that. Maybe my next bike. 🤷🏻♀️ Nice jazz groove there with the band. I miss live performances!!
Grew up in North Central Ohio and used to ride a 72' Honda CB200T from Mansfield to Columbus on a regular basis. I was young and didn't really worry about riding on the highway...although now at age 60, I try to avoid highway traffic here in Phoenix as much as possible
Oh yeah I bet Phoenix/Tempe is a whole new ballgame for highway craziness! 😅 I make that drive up to Mansfield a lot to visit family (through it really to go to Greenwich), I always end up caked with bugs by the end of the day!
Enjoyed another great video! I avoid the major highways and interstates in my area. Just not crazy about being in a lot of traffic anymore. Plus you better be hauling the mail (speeding like a bat out of ****) if you venture out there. I will do it, if I have to. Ride and stay safe up there in Ohio!=)
Yeah hwy riding when your starting out can be scary due to all the idiots going way to fast out there and just pulling over on you without warning at high-speed. Also I hate being on the hwy when there is really high crosswinds as can be so difficult to hold onto the bike. Yes agree one good thing is that everyone is all going the same way 👍 Columbus does look like a cool city down that main street. The Ice cream shop sounds good 🍨😋 Well done parking in that spot. Yr bike 🏍️ is looking good 👍
I haven't ridden on the road yet, let alone the highway but knowing you haven't been riding too long makes me feel slightly less scared about it when the time comes!
My first ride on the highway was going to take my riding test for second time, which was early in the morning with no traffic, unfortunately I never made it to my test my CL350 broke down. Highway driving always made me nervous when there was heavy traffic just too many distracted drivers to account for at times. Have fun and be safe.
I’ve been riding about 21 years so can’t remember first highway ride but several years ago a friend and I roe from Pittsburgh Pa to Washington DC. I think riding on the Pa turnpike at nite was the most challenging.. it was up and down hills around bends passing trailer trucks at 70 mph or so. That road is not even a good ride in a car.
Dang I love all the women motovloggers in CBUS!! You and Biker Babe Beth both seem to ride on the West Side which is my area! Hope to see you all out...ride safe!
I’ve not ridden one yet! Did you try motorcycling before you got the spyder? Any compare and contrast you’d wanna share, since you bought one? I find them to be a super curious invention!
@@OneDownGeneUp I did ride until I messed up my back. I always tell people to test ride one if they get the chance. It's a different type of ride, but in a good way. It's alot more stable of course, but you can still get your self into trouble if you get to relaxed. They're pretty quick too ☺️
I was terrified of the highway, but my job is 38 miles away sooo lol. I honestly feel safer on the highway than side streets. Especially after my accident it's nerve racking for me in the city streets, people passing reds, cutting you off, jumping lanes no signaling, its my worst nightmare. Great video btw!
I’m a working musician and play guitar in two bands, I’ve been playin guitar as long as I can remember, and I love most all genres of music. Having said that, I still find it difficult to listen to jazz. 🤷🏼 But I will drink mead. 🥃
Before we take our riding test over here in Switzerland, the instructor takes you out on the highway to prepare you for any eventuallities. There are many other things which are covered in the riding course here, that I never seem to hear of when listening to you state side beginner boys n' gals
@@OneDownGeneUp it definitely worked! As long as we have friends who are willing to help. I know someone who crashed on the freeway. It was their 2nd ride ever and his "friend" was leading instead the other way around. His buddy left him behind
Gene, do you feel that the small windscreen helps at all? Or just for the cool looks? 😂 Does it make any difference at highway speeds? I have the Street Twin and don't even notice the wind until I hit 50+ MPH.
Only when I’m being goofy in full tuck when my boots are on the passenger pegs!... haha 😂 But I like the idea that it protects those beautiful dual-clocks that I love so much!
Mead.... if that is what I think it is, a honey brew with different fruit juices then, no i've never had it or the chance to try it. I prefer the bitterness and herby taste of beers or the dry tangy taste of white wine. Mead is most probably too sweet for me, therefore I class it as a girls drink. Good music, I like👍... having seen your room when you're filming at home, I presume one of you two is a mucisian... right?
I think riding on the highway is very safe but also very boring. I rather ride nice twisty back roads. In the Netherlands, where I live, you have to learn how to ride on the highway with your driving lessons (bike and car) before you can get a driver's license.
“Like” and Subscribe if you dig local live music! More of that to come for sure!
