For those wondering why some characters don't seem of a Russian aesthetic, there are 5 factions listed in this video, indicated by the emblem next to the character. -The "Coat of Arms" seems to represent a traditional and ceremonial appearance, visualized by their red capes. -"Vostok-08" is more in line with modern (and stylized) Russian military look, they also appear in most of the promo material. -"Pioneers Service" is some type of civilian or volunteer corps, so they have the most lax clothing. -The "Red Lettering" (seen on the more unorthodox characters such as the Egyptian, Schoolgirl, and Greek) seem to be comprised of other foreign countries' aesthetic. -And finally, the "Entente Organization Multi-National Force" is made up of Western military gear and equipment.
There is one more faction missing from this video but they do appear on the promotional materials and official website. That faction seems to be a collaboration force of the soviet, western and coat of arms faction. Edit: the name is the Joint Development Region
Maybe I’m greedy, maybe I’m woke(lol), but as they have some characters from different culture and more precisely, from different socialism countries, I think this could be a good time to dive deeper into Comblock. You know, the so-called “diversity”, lol While even to right now we barely know anything about the game, as the first impression of the game is Soviet cold war and they extend above Soviet, this can be a good time to go different from other competitor, right? Maybe political influenced, maybe just normal day soldier life.
That's not the term "woke" means, if it ever meant anything concrete. And also adding girls from Warsaw Pact countries, Iraq, Libya, Egypt, Cuba, Vietnam etc. would be BEYOND BASED
@@krolniczego8811 Talking about faction, to cover large amount of faction require large amount of story and to right now, I think most gacha game doesn't do a very good job at telling deeper story about other faction. Like, even if we have rarelu see faction like Hungary, which is important in Soviet steel ring of defend, will it gets good story? (Maybe only Warhammer 40k able to do this super good lol. 40 years of story or so, and a ton of space marine kind, both Imperial and heretic) So, I watched quite amount of video about Indochina war, I think Vietnam would be a good faction for both story and diversity. They get a ton of weapon from many countries, so this should be a good idea to be begin with. However, with how we usually think about Vietnamese, like "just another Asian", this can be kinda hard though. But as we can see in this early stage of the game, I think they can cook very well. Let's hope
@@thedesignerblacksmith5953 True, as an eastern European, I'd love to see some Warsaw Pact countries rep (like mentioned Hungary, Poland, Czechoslovakia, Romania etc...). The game is set in 2000 so other soviet aligned countries (Ba'athist Iraq, Gaddaffist Libya, Cuba, Communist Ethiopia etc.) could also be cool. Dunno if chinese devs would do Vietnam good due to historical and political reasons, but that'd be nice nonetheless as for factions, the Soviet one (that's the Vostok-08 thing I believe), could have an easy way to include characters of other nationalities. The soviets had the Interkosmos program with many of their allied states, as well as neutral and even pro-US ones (that being Japan and France). This could tie into the game's cast in some way.
Seems like Boctok-08 and the EOMF faction are more of the military and tactical fashion of both Russian and Western styles respectively. The Coat of Arms faction is a sort of stylized traditional military dress. Pioneers Service seems to be a civilian corps, so more plain and casual clothing. And the last one with the red lettering (and what looks like garlic? Onions?) is made up of various other aesthetics (Egyptian, Greek, etc)
@@re57k I know, I just wrote it out as Boctok since that's what one would assume at first glance without knowledge of the language. But yes, Vostok-08 would be the correct spelling.
@redlightu Ah alright, fair enough. It did occur to me that you might've written it in Cyrillic and I misread it as latin writing, but glad that could be cleared up.
While I'm a bit resigned to the unaesthetic of the setting, I'm a bit confused by some of the details. Usually Soviet themes portray the country as more pacifist or less militarised in space travel genres (see Kira Bulychev's Alice Universe), although it's clear that the game is made by foreigners. Not to say it's bad, but I wouldn't say they were able to convey the pseudo-Soviet reality fully either. Looking forward to the game)
Soviets are apparently still in a civil war and and your more or less trying to unify the USSR via hunting for relics. At least that seems to be the case. Also an arms race developed between the Entente ie NATO and Vostok or USSR so it makes sense to some extent. Also thought the devs were Russian?
@hopedream11 Well nah, I don't care about Cold War as much as other citizens when USSR was around. It's not about propaganda or geopolitics, it's about aesthetics and kinship. Of course I knew that devs was Chinese, that's why I blow my sh*t in first trailer, but then I calmed down a bit. If it was Russian, I would have recognized it by annoying pseudo-anime cartoonish artstyle of Everlasting Summer or Little Green Girl that is absolutely out of quality to be called as visual novels) P.S.: And of course, generally speaking I knew it is foreign just looking at trailer preview, two words: snow and winter
Please tell me again that this is a game about "Soviet Cold War" okay? Why is there some kind of "desert clothing" characters for? And why's that Neko *Japanese* Schoolgirl Uniform doing in there? It's about Soviet Cold War right? 😐
The Soviet Union was involved in several conflicts with Egypt, including the 1967 Six-Day War, the 1969-1970 War of Attrition, and the 1973 Arab-Israeli War Japan and the Soviet Union were both key participants in the Cold War, along with Germany. Japan's island status made it less concerned about a direct military threat from the Soviet Union than West Germany IDK what you learned but yeah this all you need
I like how one artist went out of his way to make the girls fit the military aesthetic as much as possible, while the other just likes elves and feet.
