Sold my a7iv and just got my a7cii -- watching your channel and chris brockhurst (and watched your road trip together). The 16-25mm and 35mm 1.4 (versus the 1.8, though I really like the size and weight) are exactly what I was thinking! The 35mm 1.4 is also great for portraits--street, corporate, studio. Thanks brotha!
I prefer the Sony 24 1.4 GM on my a7c2. In crop mode you get a focal length of 36mm at a very respectable 14.1 MP. It's a hair smaller and also lighter. Everyone has their preferences... For me the 24 is the perfect lens!
The 35mm 14 GM is my favorite lens in the Sony line up! I also own the Sigma 35mm f/2 DG DN Contemporary Lens - another amazing lens! perfect for the A7CII or similar smaller Sony bodies
Thanks for the video, Sidney! The G-Master lenses are indeed tempting tools. But personally I noticed that I rarely use apertures faster than f2.8. So, my lens setup for street and travel for the a7cII consists of the very nice Sony 24-50 G f2.8 and the Sigma contemporary I-series lenses 24mm f3.5, 45mm f2.8 and 90mm f2.8. Especially the Sigma lenses are tiny, lightweight and unobtrusive. If one doesn’t need fast lenses for specific use cases (portraits etc.) I can highly recommend these primes and the wonderful small Sony zoom.
It's interesting how you say "small and compact" about this lens. I guess it's all relative. I have it as well, love it, but it's still too big for me to carry around everyday. And as we all know, the camera (or lense) you have is always the best... For paid work and low light shootings it's an amazing lens, for most things it's overkill though, i think.
Literally the best lens to travel with and just snap photos during your vacations (I use it with the A7IV). It is also my go to video set up with my FX3.
I had this briefly on the Sony A7CR (61mp). It's extremely sharp even at F1.4! The sad part is that it was so heavy and large that it became a burden to carry on the small A7CR. When you're hiking with it, it drags the camera downwards making it quite annoying, which is my main use case. So I decided to move it on and stick to the 40mm F2.5. The bokeh is not quite as impressive but it's far, far lighter and more portable.
@@SidneyDiongzon maybe you're right. For much usage, it looks plenty sharp to my eye. I don't doubt the GM f1.4 version is sharper and better optically. I just really like smaller lenses. And a bought mine for 1/6 the cost of GM f1.4 version.
I don’t shoot video but I will pair my 16-25/2.8 G with both the 35/1.4 GM and the 50/1.4 GM if I need a wider aperture to reduce DOF. Otherwise I use the 24-50/2.8 G. Like wise will pair my 24-50/2.8 with the 20/1.8 G or 14/1.8 GM if I’m shooting in low light for the wide end like for astrophotography. Trying to keep my kit flexible and smaller for my compact C bodies. Thank you and take care.
Any chance you have a link to some raw files to 24-50 photos? I'm buying an a7cii to travel Nepal and Europe and considering the 24-50 as a compact solution. I don't think buying a 35 GM is a good solution for me... Need some range.
@@bobstevens5202 The Sony FE 16-35mm f/2.8 GM II is actually a fairly light solution if you need to also cover from 16-35mm since it only 547 grams. it is quite a bit lighter than a 16-25/2.8 G + a 35/1.4 GM.
@@bobstevens5202I can recommend the Sigma 28-70mm f2.8 on the A7CII aswell. Better reach on the long end, but not so wide. Just 50 grams heavier than the Sony 24-50mm and a lot cheaper. Have a lovely travel 😊
35mm is the focal length I really want to like but man, it hasn't grown on me believe me I've tried!!! I'm more 24mm or 50mm or even 85mm so interesting
I stick with my 35mm f1.8 for its size and no focus breathing. When I look at the focus breathing on this f1.4 lens for video work, it turns me right off even with the focus breathing mode turned on.
Liked..comming and subscribed :) Quick questions.. I'm not sure if I'm mising somethign but is the A7Cii your only camera? Keen to know which camera this video is shot with?
I don't Buy it Still, because the Focus breathing. It's Huge. Dou You have another solution apart from compensation in the camera great video as always
The Sony 35mm f1.8 is smaller, lighter and is a great video lens because of no focus breathing. And a lot cheaper too. I got the Sigma 35mm f1.4 Art, but very big and heavy on the A7CII. I'm therefore thinking of getting the Sony or Samyang 35mm f1.8. Both supposed to be great little lenses.
I can recommend the Samyang AF 85mm 1.4 FE II. The focus is not super-fast, but this is not so important for portraits. I've been waiting 2-3 years for the new Sony 85mm 1.4 (which is due in September). But it will also cost €1,600.
I have the Sigma 35 1.4; it's a bit heavier & longer, but still like it a lot. That being said, I feel the Sigma 35 2.0 balances much better on the A7Cii. In fact, IMO 1.4 primes are too heavy & large are too much for the A7cii.
@@ruben_stouth Haven't put it up for sale on any marketplaces as I'm currently on vacation. Willing to consider fair offers. Comes with box, manual, everything that came with the retail package though.
This is also my favourite lens on the 7C II. Compact, sharp and versatile in terms of focal length. Perfect for family gatherings.
Totally agree!

The great video makes me wanna upgrade from my iPhone to a Sony camera
I hear the A7C2 is pretty good 😎

In January when I got back to photography, this is the exact setup I got and never looked back.
i saved money and got the samyang 35mm 1.4. Such a great focal length with 1.4

Small lenses rock!

These shots 😍... just when I thought I was done buying camera gear lol
Haha….sorry lol
For real though, this lens is awesome!

Whoa you weren't kidding. The footage from it is so crispy.
I LOVE 35mm

Agree, on this lens. But I went with the 35mm f1.8. It's noticeably smaller than the f1.4 and for my use, is great and for video no focus breathing.
That lens way softer than the 1.4 GM. I’ve used plenty of times and had so much CA

I don’t rack focus a lot when I film so I don’t really worry about out focus breathing. I usually just stick to a subject, then cut to the next shot
