Guardian Tales combines RPG action, puzzles and adventure -- all in equal measure. In fact, what you'll find here is not a far cry from the kind of action you'd expect to come across in The Legend of Zelda. This genre-bending mashup even includes the option to customize a magical floating island from which to strategize with your posse of heroes.
Whenever exploring forests and dungeons, you're set with the task of moving your character about using solely your left thumb. With your right thumb, opt to attack, launch special skills and interact with any of the elements scattered throughout each scene. Engage with each item differently (almost like an open sandbox) you'll find torches, smash rocks, jump on trampolines, chat with other characters and much more.
Story mode in Guardian Tales is simple. Start out as a measly kingdom guard as he attempts to survive a new onslaught of attacks by the dark spellmaster. From there on, your adventure begins to take on much more epic proportions -- you face off against increasingly menacing monsters and venture out to explore the many vast expanses within the realm.
Even though you spend most of the time in story mode, Guardian Tales also includes several other game modes that are even more fun. For example, you can face off against other players in PvP mode, or create and decorate your own floating island where your characters get to kick back and relax.
Guardian Tales is an awesome RPG that comes with super fun gameplay and lush, pixelated charm.

still works. some other tips for the earlier parts
- for the small ships that shoot three small bullets, dont try to shoot them, if you focus on dodging it is very easy
- for the ships that shoot three big bullets, go the one side, then just roll to the other side whenever the cooldown is over. the bullets target you so when you roll to the other side of the screen, it is essentially empty of bullets, and by the time the ships start aiming at you again, the roll's cooldown is done.
- for the midboss, by timing the rolls right, you can manage to roll through each of the faster attacks
