About Ooty Nilgiri Mountain Railways: . If you are travelling from Mettupalayam to Ooty, go for the Ooty Mountain Railway, rather than any other mode of transport. More commonly known as the Ooty Toy train, the experience you get here is really out of the world.
The Nilgiri Mountain Railway is the only mountain railway that operates on a daily basis in South India. The train runs one to and fro journey every day and the frequency increases during peak summer, to accommodate the heavy inflow of tourists. The train runs from Mettupalayam to Ooty via Coonoor.

The track is a total of 46 kilometers and runs completely through the picturesque Nilgiri Mountains and the journey is worth the time spent in the train. You get both first class and second class tickets and if you are a person who loves some quiet and calm, go for the first class tickets and enjoy the mountains and the beautiful scenery that whisks past you in the train.

The train look marvelous with a tint of blue, green and cream with large windows emerges from a backdrop of steam and smoke of steam engine. It uses 4,000 litres of water every few kilometers . The Nilgiri Mountain Railway is one of three Indian railways which were recognized by UNESCO . We had enjoyed this train ride from Coonoor to Ooty during our 2017 trip, it took around 1 hour. I feel the train should move a little slower so that we can enjoy more and capture the beauty of forest and hills.

Try uphill journey… it is spectacular.. Steam engine from Mettupalayam to Coonoor claims the steepest gradient in Asia 1 : 12 with the help of rack and pinion system..
Rather than depending on chance, is there a way to book Window Seat specifically on this. If not, Railways may consider a separate premium charge for the window seats

यह ट्रेन ऊटी से कुन्नूर तक डीजल लोकोमोटिव से चलती हैं। कुन्नूर में इंजन को बदला जाता हैं। कून्नूर से स्टीम इंजन लगाया जाता हैं। As this train gets delayed especially during rainy weather, I would suggest you take the night train from Mettupalayam to Chennai (Nilgiri Express). From Chennai CMBT bus stand ( connected by Metro from Chennai Central) you can get a bus to Pondy every 5--10 minutes.

I think we should not compare! But given an option, then Ooty.
But Ooty is a very small town ship in comparison to Gangtok/Darjeeling falling in the Himalayan Range...Where as nothing much to see in the so called Blue Mountains/ Ooty
