I've lived in Phoenix for 34 years. The reason there are so many red light runners is due to the fact our traffic lights aren't synchronized. Our city is designed around a 1 square mile grid. The light turns green, your drive a mile and just when you're about to pass through the next green light it turns red at the absolute last second.
Yup! I agree. I see it all the time. And people are driving way over the speed limit everywhere. There aren't enough police patrolling certain areas. 😒
YES YES & HECK YES. 60 plus in a 40-45 mph. It's NUTS. Ride your butt if you do the actual speed limit. Road rage. The Interstates have become the Indy 500.
Good stuff honestly I've never thought of it that way. but speaking how I am on the road I definitely slow down sooner or speed up faster when i see a 21 second clock. There's definitely more time for adjustment or commitment
Timers on lights should be illegal, stop being cheap and switch to sensors and cameras. Shouldn't have to sit in a busy line and wait 5 minutes for a light to change on an intersection where the cross traffic is one car per light change on average
After living in other cities you will realize PHX is far behind the times and doesnt have sensors on their lights and instead has timers. This causes drivers to push the yellow lights in attempt to get through the intersection so they dont have to wait for 5min while no one goes through that intersection. This is also compounded by terrible driving and fast drivers.
Fun fact az also has garbage stats on wrong way driving incidents. Az also has some of the highest insurance rates in the US (my Ohio insurance rates doubled). Some of the worst roads filled with reckless drivers.

maybe if they would prosecute hit and run with no injury......that would help. Officer told me first hand after I was hit that the prosecutors dont pursue hit and run with no injury

With Phoenix being the fifth biggest city in the u.s. unfortunately these insane drivers on the streets of phoenix are nowhere near being there priority. But there are a few parts of Scottsdale and Paradise Valley that enforce these religiously

Same here in Florida. Very rarely see a police car anymore. It’s scary. If I get a lunatic behind me….I pull over and wait a while….too make sure the lunatic is far enough up the road and it’s safe for me to proceed. So many people are driving like speed demons today….and those are the same folks wearing masks every where they go but they don’t want to die, they just want to kill you on the roadway for not speeding like them.

Look Both ways before crossing the intersection i always look esp if the light just changed since we have protected left arrows when I have got my first car a driver almost plowed into me at 60mph No way they could not have noticed the light was red when a ton of traffic there... and they ran the red using the empty right turn lane

Examples are sometimes too slow or fast.or swerving in and out of lanes and the one's that cut you off to turn in some where or the best ones that are brake Slammers. About the red light running in Arizona I live in Tucson Arizona in a couple years ago the people voted to take out the intersection cameras it's bad everybody runs red lights even in front of police officers I've seen it
Duh,how about turn on left blinker to go 2 lane over to the right,how about not stopping for red light when everyone else is stop and you get hit from behind .This happened to my son 3 times.or how they will run you over in a crosswalk and not stop,or you don't want to be on a bike on the road, or motor cycle here. That wont-work. 1st Offense impound there car or put a boot on it for one month . 2nd time 2 months, plus work project At road maintenance.. That way they will have to go and clean up all the debris and blood-and-guts from from each red light accident.
Cameras are unconstitutional! How about we make the lights in the Phoenix Valley the same. There is no consistency across the valley. The time lapse on the yellow varies, and You sit at red lights with no cross traffic and you wonder, WTF do I have to sit here for 2-3 minutes for nothing.

2nd offense they impound the car for 2 months. And you get work project for 6 months.. You were assigned to highway maintenance To go to every accident and clean up all the debris and the blood-and-guts. Maybe that will get through to them.

buckle up and get your self a dash cam. the lights need to be changed. there is not anof time between from yellow to red. it seem to go from yellow to red in 2 sec. i wait few sec before going though. it save me alot of times. just the other day a 18 whealer run a red light. had i not waited those few sec i would have been hit. plus people are getting crazzy in driving this year. its just not at red lights. i have had poeple almost hit from behind when turning. also poeple dont want to look when turning and almost hit me head on. speeding on the highway has gone crazzy too. does not help when we get the slow pokes on the highway that only go about 45 up to 55. i get it we all have places to be but can we get there safe and in one piece. i will say again buckle up and get a dash cam your going to need it.

I never immediately take off when the light turns green. I look first to see who’s not going to stop at the red. Then I proceed.

Extend the yellow light per the national study that shows it cuts down on red light accidents.
The yellow lights here are one of two options; 1 fairly decent to short time, 2 I hope you have new brakes because you'll need them!

Every light is timed. If the speed limit is 40 the yellow light stays yellow for 4 seconds. 35mph? 3.5 seconds. 50mph? 5 seconds.

It is because our yellow lights are too short. I notice in other states that their yellow lights last much longer.
Seems like simply extending the yellow time would help. Not perfect but would help with people who gun it when they see yellow.
